Does leave your lips a bit white, but I'm willing to make that tradeoff
I was looking for "non-chemical" sunscreen lip balm (by which I mean that the sunscreen properties are provided physically by zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as opposed to various -benzone and similar compounds, and yes, I understand that all are scientifically "chemicals"). This one had relatively good reviews and was reasonably priced for how infrequently I'd use it, and--being familiar with zinc sunscreens on my skin--I was fully expecting this one would leave a bit of a white cast on my lips, despite many reviews claiming it did not. Unfortunately, it definitely *does* leave a white cast. It's not like face paint by any means, but you'll definitely notice it. If I'm doing something in public besides exercising or the like where "I'm wearing lots of sunscreen" is a perfectly legitimate expectation, I'll "dilute" it with just a bit of "regular" lip balm, which helps it rub in clearer. I see some other people are using tinted lip balms or lipstick, which probably does about the same (I'm a guy who doesn't use or have any of those). I suspect either way reduces the SPF a bit, but it's hopefully better than nothing.Personally, I'm willing to make this tradeoff and it is something I expected given the nature of zinc oxide. Just be warned not to believe the reviews that say it's perfectly clear the second you put it on (if it is, I'd be worried about the wild inconsistency of this product between tubes/batches). The saving grace of this product for me is that it is I don't find any of the ingredients objectionable and it was reasonably priced at the time I bought it.

You don't have to eat it.
I've only used this sunscreen lip balm once after having received it several days ago. I really like it. Most sunscreen lip balms are too soft, similar to lady's lipstick. I want to protect my lips while out in the sun doing yard work or riding my bicycle for several hours or more. I have gotten cold sores from being exposed to the sun without using sunscreen protection. I prefer that the lip balm stays on my lips and doesn't get into my mouth. When doing heavy exercise, I'm breathing through my mouth at times, and the last thing I want is having any sort of chemicals get into my mouth. If I can taste it; I'm eating it, and that isn't good. I spent three hours bike riding in strong sun, and my lips felt well protected, and I never tasted anything in my mouth. As far as I'm concerned, the whole purpose is to protect the lips from sun exposure. If I wanted moisturized lips, then that would be my main purpose, but protecting my lips is the primary reason for using this. I believe I have found my go-to lip balm for outdoor exposure to the sun. I'm also not interested in having a pretty scent. It's not lip perfume that is needed; it's function, and this functioned perfectly for me.

Didn't like the texture or smell
I want to try using more chemical free products, this product had great ratings on the EWG website so I thought I would give it a try for my recent trip to Hilton Head. I didn't end up using it for very long because I didn't like the texture or smell of the product. I ended using my mom's chemically laced SPF chapstick because it went on my lips easier and smelled like coconuts. I understand natural products will not necessarily smell nice since they are leaving out the fragrances, but when it's this close to my nose while being used, I would rather it smell a little better. My mom didn't mind the smell and used it, she thought it was just fine. I also purchased their clear body sunscreen lotion and sunscreen stick and thought they were great!* I received a discount in exchange for a fair and unbiased review

Needs a pretty smelling/tasting essential oil ingredient.
Well, I like that it has a good rating from the EWG! That, and the relatively decent price (compared to some other EWG well-rated lip sunscreens) are the only reasons I chose to buy this product.Doesn't make my lips super pale, but there IS a definite lightening of the lip color when I put this on. It is unscented and unflavored in any way, so it just smells kinda like... oils/waxes? Which isn't super appetizing, to me. I'd prefer if they put a drop of orange or lemon or peppermint oil in as a scent to cover up the waxy smell of the ingredients. It's thick and lasted for a couple of hours (I ate, so not sure how long it would've lasted if I hadn't eaten), so it seems to be a durable, effective product.

Definetily loving naturals
I was a little skeptical after having read some of the reviews for this product: People were complaining about the texture and how it left their lips looking white. However, the price of this particular product is lower than its competitors, so I decided to give it a try anyway. What I look for in a sunscreen is first of all the rating from EWG. In this case the score is very high, as it contains no harmful chemicals, provides excellent UVA (and UVB) protection as well as being truthful with regards to the advertised SPF 30. I also like the fact that it contains zinc oxide as opposed to titanium oxide, as the latter can be problematic for acne prone skin (not to mention the fact that it may give you a rather deathly pallor).I have a hard time understanding all the complaints about this product, so far it has exceeded my expectations. The texture is a bit stickier than your average chapstick, but it's not difficult to apply at all. If anything, the thicker texture makes it feel like it really stays in place unlike other lip balms that feel like they just melt off your face. It also feels very nourishing. As far as leaving your lips looking white, the only way I can imagine that happening is if your lips are very chapped (in which case, all you have to do is to rub it in a bit) or if you let the lip balm get too warm so that too much product ends up on your lips.Overall, I'm very happy with this product and I definitely plan to repurchase.
