Can you run with the mouth piece open or will water come out as you are running?

Yes it can, because the bite valve has a pull open and close switch, when not drinking water push the bite valve in the direction of the water pipe will be closed. And the bite valve will not flow out until it absorbs water, and it will not leak during the movement even if the protective cover is not closed.

I’ve washed and flushed the water container multiple times, still tastes like plastic… any tips?

Add fresh lemon juice to the add and let set for a day or two. that helped with mine

How do you flush the hose ?

If you don't have a brush for cleaning the hose, you can fill the bladder with fresh water and then long press the bite valve to draw the water out and clean it a couple times. After cleaning you can remove the hose from the bladder to dry.

Can the vest itself be washed in the washing machine? I have a mud run coming up.

Hand washing is recommended. If you want to wash it in a washing machine, you must put it in a laundry mesh bag, which will prevent the plastic fittings on the vest from accidentally harming the washing machine.
