Only leave it on for 30 min if you want a natural red color!
I really like this color; it's a darker, deeper, cooler red than regular henna, but on me I only used it 30 min and it's not so dark that it looks fake (it looks like it could conceivably be a color of hair that humans grow, not a purple Sharon-Osbourne-nightmare as I was afraid it might turn out). My hair was looking very washed out and uneven from previous treatments, and it gave it an incredible boost (see photo that I uploaded). Background: I had light/medium brown hair w/ natural red henna in it, and I have a very pale, warm complexion... I thought that this wine red color might clash with my warm skin-tone because of the cooler tones in it, but I decided finally that I wanted to give it a try because I wanted a darker, deeper red.... and praise Cthulhu, it looks great! It makes my complexion look paler (which I love), and it covered my uneven color from past sun-in treatments (the only way I've found to lighten henna'd hair is sun-in, but I suck at it, so I had some rather unseemly streaking going on around the roots, which it covered completely to give me a nice, even red tone throughout with coppery highlights where the sun-in was). One word of caution I would give is, try leaving it on for less time than it recommends; As I said, I only left it on my profuse, thick hair for 30 minutes, and it turned out absolutely perfect; Since these natural dyes become darker the longer you leave them on, I can only imagine that leaving it on for the whole 2 hours would cause it to darken way too much, and allow more of the dark brown and purple dyes to show up. So be careful with that, unless you have darker hair already, or if you are going for a dark red/purple color.tl;dr it's pretty!, and it can look more natural if you leave it on for just 30 min instead of the full 2 hours... I think the negative reviews are all people who left it on too long. The company may want to rethink the instructions.UPDATE:It does oxidize for a few days after applying it, so it cooled down for me to a red/burgundy color, after at first appearing more coppery. I think I may mix it with regular henna + lemon juice next time for a warmer tone.

Very pleased with the results
This is the first time I have ever used a hair color. I researched and considered many hair color products before selecting this one. This product is 100% natural and contains henna, herbs, and other botanicals which are health-promoting for your hair. It is easy to apply - just add hot/warm water (optionally add vinegar, olive oil/raw egg, and an essential oil) and mix to form a paste. After applying the paste to your hair, you let it stay in your hair for a couple of hours (covering your head with the included disposable cap), then rinse it out, and dry with a hair dryer. It's great to be able to have natural-looking and natural-feeling hair as well as to know that you are actually strengthening (not harming) your hair as you use this hair dye. I have short hair and I found that half of a package was very adequate, which makes it very economical to use. I highly recommend Henna King's hair color.

Works well for a natural dye
We use the Indigo powder in a custom mix for my husband's dark brown hair along with Cascia and Henna. It works well and lasts. Using this mix of Henna King products has also helped condition his scalp and make his hair really soft. The main downside is the smell. It stinks like manure - earthy, plant-like - which is not really surprising, but you just have to know that going in. The smell does last a day or so but isn't noticeable unless you are pretty close to the person. I have tried to use essential oils to improve the smell, but it didn't work, so we just live with it for the first couple of days. If you use traditional dye products they have a horrible chemical smell, so pick your poison I guess. His hair also does tend to have a blue or green tinge to around the shorter hairs in the front/sides during the first 24 hours, but it disappears and you are left with a nice brown color with the mix we use (6 tsp Indigo, 2 tsp Cascia, 2 tsp Henna ==> mixed with a slightly cooled cup of coffee). Overall, I definitely recommend the Henna King line for a natural hair dye product. Their customer service is also excellent.
