The fossils and sand used in this unique necklace were collected directly from Lake Michigan by the artist, and set in a copper-plated pendant tray as a nod to the abundant copper deposits found in the Great Lakes region. Care was taken to showcase the materials as they appear when found. This pendant contains Lake Michigan beach sand, a Petoskey Stone, (Michigan's state stone, and the fossilized remnants of an ancient hexagonal coral that lived hundreds of millions of years ago,) fossilized horn coral (sometimes called Charlevoix stone,) and a crinoid fossil, glazed in a manner to make the piece appear wet, as if waves were lapping over it.
