The spirit of Tekken 3 with today's visuals.
TLDR: The good : Huge amount of depth, good roster with unique styles, great visuals and stages , mostly lag free online experience The bad : I prefer the older Tekken themes to this version but I know music is very subjective. Also the story mode is disappointing since the side characters do not get cool FMV endings like before. 4.5 out of 5 stars. After taking a very long break from the Tekken series , I finally decided to pick this up after months of waiting . I'm glad I did. I loved Tekken 3 and TTT back on the day and this brings back many of the same feelings I had back then . I enjoy how in depth the game is and despite learning a few characters well, I've hardly scratched the surface. The huge amount of moves can seem overwhelming so my advice would be to stick with one character that appeals to you and learn all the ins and outs before moving on. The stages are nicely done along with the visuals. This is one of the nicest looking fighting games I've seen. Online has been mostly good with a few laggy fights thrown in to keep me honest . It's not all perfect though as my 2 main complaints are the story mode and music. I music isn't a major deal, it will get you pumped it must doesn't have the old charm of say Tekken 2 or 3. My main complaint is in the story. I focused almost exclusively on the Mishima saga. Side characters barely are mentioned and do not get the cool FMV endings like previous games. I used to beat the game with literally every character just to see their endings and was disappointed that it was not the case this time. Overall this is a very good game and a good starting point for new players of Tekken and returning veterans. 4.5 out of 5 stars, rounded up to 5.

A Slightly In Depth Overview for Casuals and Veterans
As a standalone product, Tekken 7 is pretty decent with a solid amount of characters, unlockable customization options, and a healthy online community but if you are coming to this from other Tekken games, I hope you only care about fighting others or the AI because its pretty barebones outside of that aspect. You might be familiar with Tekken Bowl from Tag 1 on PS2. That mode returns here...as DLC. Aside from that, there is story mode that completely retcons the whole Mishima backstory and even brings Akuma from Street Fighter in to ruin the story. The mode itself is presented much better than most fighting game story modes and feel much more natural during cutscene to game transitions but the actual challenge and substance of the story is lacking. An iconic character checks out permanently so its sad to see it done so poorly. That said the gameplay is on par with Tekken 5 and arguably better balanced with new mechanics for both old and new players. Much like older Tekken titles, this game rewards legacy skills moreso than other fighting games so don't expect to reach top competitive levels overnight. If you are new though, this Tekken does make the best effort to actually teach you the game with punishment/combo training options and a nice replay feature that freezes keypoints in your match to point out moments you could have done something better. Very cool tool and I hope more games do this. The DLC much like Namco's other ongoing game, Dragon Ball FighterZ is skewed towards extremely powerful characters behind paywalls. In Dragon Ball FighterZ, it was Bardock and GT Goku, in Tekken you have Leroy. Everybody is playing him because he's extremely powerful at all levels of play and very easy to pick up and play. Unless you like waiting on patches, you just have to deal with the BS in the game or stop playing until they adjust characters. All in all, its solid for both competitive and casual play but it barely misses the mark from being the best Tekken entry due to some bonehead design choices, missing features, and barebones home release exclusive content compared to past entries.
