Multipurpose Repair Plastic - 6 oz Kit

I loved this stuff so much I wrote a review of it for Motorcycle Consumer News. It was published in the April, 2014 issue and you can find the full article with a Google search of Plast-aid and MCN and my name pretty easily. Here is some of what I said: "Here’s the problem: gluing plastic pieces together never works – at least not for long. They get brittle, then break, typically in the same spot, although now the two edges are embedded with impossible to remove old gnarled glue gunk.Problem solved, finally! Plast-aid deals with just about any plastic adhesion problem you’ll ever find. I learned about this stuff from Stu Oltman, MCN’s downtime files editor. In Stu’s garage one day we were reinstalling the plastic fairing on my bike after some repairs when we discovered that one of the four molded bobbins was severely cracked and barely attached. If this was metal you could weld it, but it’s ABS plastic. What to do? Stu pulls his Plast-aid kit from his toolbox. He pours some of the white sand-like powder into a cup and then adds a bit of the liquid catalyst and stirs. In a few minutes, he’s got something the consistency of toothpaste. I hold the pieces in place and he smears the paste around the broken area. Within 15 minutes I’m putting the fairing back on the bike, marveling at how solidly it attaches. The joint holding the bobbin in place and where it attaches to the fairing are noticeably stronger than they were originally.I ordered some the next day and have used it at nearly a dozen times since. The plastic covering surrounding our steel dishwasher racks had deteriorated in one corner. The metal had rusted and was gone and all that left was a few shreds of plastic. Using the old plastic as a guide, I formed new rods from the Plast-aid. While it does not look like new, it’s completely solid and totally solves the problem. It remains exactly as I applied it even after hundreds of super-hot dishwasher cycles. Next, my shop light tipped over and completely broke the hinge holding one of the folding lights. I attached the broken hinge piece using Plast-aid, and formed a ridge over the break. It is far sturdier now than before it was broken. I also used it to fix the 40-year-old visors on a car I’m restoring, as well as a cracked light fixture on the dash. The stuff is amazing. It’s been my “go to” glue for the past six months.The product comes from Plast-aid Corporation in Estes Park, CO. I love tiny companies like this. They make just one thing – this stuff. They don’t make anything else and nobody else makes anything like this. In 1996, Randy Amen and his partner set out to come up with a product that would be handy, effective and easy to use. They started with the stuff used by orthopedic surgeons to bind new joints to old bones, then chemically modified it to get the properties they wanted to create the perfect fixing material for a large variety of jobs. They test marketed it in Colorado hardware and specialty stores. Soon a few regional and national dealers started to carry it. Today, you can even buy it on Amazon.com, although I prefer to buy it direct from their website, as it allows this small company to keep all the profit. The 1.5 oz. kit is $9.95 and 6 oz. is $19.95. I recommend the larger size. Once you try it, you’ll find more and more uses for it.

This is one of the coolest products I have ever bought. It continues to blow me away every time I mix up and repair something. I was VERY reluctant about the claims but it is GREAT! I will always have some of this on hand for plastic repairs. Some complained about the odor. Yes it ran my wife out of the garage when I mixed it, but it is no more aromatic than many of the chemicals I use all the time.Updated 11/1/2020I am still amazed by this stuff. Every time I form or repair a new part I feel grateful for having discovered this stuff. It starts out as a two part product. The powder is dissolved in the solvent. Too thin? Either add a little more powder or just keep stirring until the solvent begins to evaporate and the product thickens up. It is vey thin and runny at the beginning, but gets more viscous as you stir. It goes through a stage where it does stick aggressively to your fingers but keep working it and it gets thicker. Final stages are easily shaped by hand. Give it plenty of time to cure fully before you start sanding and torquing the part and you will be pleased! It just saved a broken A/C lever in my 94 Nissan pickup that is no longer available. It has a strong chemical solvent smell. My wife hates it! I kinda like the smell! Having worked around cars, aircraft, bondo, fiberglass, pvc glues and paints all my life, it is just another chemical smell. It is strong but not offensive to me. Don’t use it indoors.

For PVC to PVC repair on 4 jet tub jets on an old jet tub. Worked great...no leaks under pressure. I did call the owner of the company in Colorado prior to purchase. He said that there are a few prep steps: 1) clean area with damp cloth. Let area dry. 2) Take the liquid portion of product and wipe (pre-clean) area to be repaired 3) Mix up the product to the consistancy of a slushy (but on the more liquid side) Use the wooden tool to sort of drip a thin layer of product on your repair area 4) quickly stir the remaining portion that you have mixed as it is hardening up fast...spread the now thicker product on your repair....let it sort of flow around the problem area. Within 10-15 minutes you will have a fully cured and permanent repair. Plastaid chemically bonds to PVC and other plastics. Epoxy or silicone will sit "on top" of the PCV and eventually come loose. Product is fantastic and worth the money.4/8/2016-Update: Used Plast-aid on a 3 inch crack on a large pool pump impeller housing. Drained water out of housing, scuffed up 1" area all around the crack, used just the liquid as "Primer" to clean the entire area to be fixed, then mixed up solution to a more liquid consistency. Applied first layer of plastaid in this more liquid state. As the plastaid starts to thicken (within minutes) in the mixing container, apply a heavier 2nd coat on the repair area. Turns out (according to the inventor) its the clear chemical that really bonds with the plastic....the plastic resin adds bulk, shapebility and strength. Two weeks since repair on this high pressure impeller and it is leak free. Water used to shoot 15 feet across the yard. GREAT PRODUCT....BUY IT AND USE IT ON ANYTHING THATS MADE FROM PVC OR PLASTIC.

Wowee, wowee. Cannot believe how excellent this stuff works! Had a hole in our washing machine basin and of course you can’t buy that side separate. Rather than forking out the money to buy a whole new washing machine, used this to seal the hole and I am amazed how well it worked. No leaks, sealed perfect and were still washing laundry. If you have your doubts, don’t because this product works! Worth the money!

It fixed my swimming pool pipe leaks. It works well so far for 6 months. Wish the fix can last.

Repairing a crack on the rear fender of my 2002 Drifter MC I bought this and some black tint liquid from Michaels craft supply store, I am part way through the repair and this stuff is working amazing. I did some tests and this stuff is REALLY strong ... will buy it again when I use this stuff up, I am sure I will have left over when I am complete.
