The perfect dock for 2 extended displays from a MacBook (except M1/2 standard chip)
Just to clarify, I bought this dock, it was not a freebee! It’s been tested on a Apple MacBook Pro 2020 13” Intel i7 model. There does seem to be a lot of inaccurate and just plain wrong information in some of the reviews, so I will try to clear up some of the confusion.I purchased two HDMI Dell 24” monitors to run off two Thunderbolt ports of my MacBook Pro using two Thunderbolt to HDMI cables. My MacBook Pro is one with 4 Thunderbolt ports, so I had enough ports left to run a small hub for other USB devices, however, this makes the laptop groan under all these cables exiting the laptop. In addition, even the slightest movement on the monitor cables sees them losing connection momentarily having a detrimental effect while working. It also makes removing the laptop a rather clunky affair.Other Intel MacBook Pro 13” models have only 2 Thunderbolt ports, so extending 2 monitors would normally take up both ports leaving nothing to attach a USB drive to if needs be.This dock gives you a great choice of ports alongside the ability to extend to two screens and by only using two Thunderbolt ports.Mythbusting! No, a standard M1 MacBook cannot extend 2 screens using this item. However, if you have a M1Pro M1Ultra or M1Max, you CAN extend to 2 screens with this device. All Intel MacBooks with 2 side-by-side Thunderbolt ports can extend to 2 screens. As for M2, I am unsure, but best guess the same applies. A standard M2 is unlikely to be able to extend to 2 monitors, but the M2 Max and Pro chips likely will.Yes, there are cheaper docks available, but if you buy any dock that uses only one Thunderbolt Port, you cannot extend to 2 screens with that dock. If extending to two screens is not what you need to do (now or ever) then yes, there are cheaper docks and you can choose one of those.Docks with 2 Thunderbolt inputs will always be more expensive than those with 1 input because two independent screen drivers are needed. Small splitters will only Mirror the existing screen, usually no good to man nor beast. This dock utilises two Thunderbolt Port connections for a reason. It is not a negative point, it is a positive point.Displays can be made to stay awake when the MacBook’s lid is closed by using an app called Amphetamine. This is available free through Apple’s App Store. Install the Enhancer program when prompted too.The sole 3.5mm jack doubles as a Microphone or Headphone jack. MacBooks can distinguish as soon as the source is plugged in which it is.PositivesThink about port positioning - This dock places ports perfectly on both sides, it seems to have been thought through. Permanent connections are on the back (2 x HDMI for your screens, power connection, Ethernet and three USB for speakers and maybe a backup drive, keyboard, mouse etc. On the front is a microphone/headphone jack, an SD card reader. Plus a USB 3.0 port and a USB-C port for data transfer, and a USB-C Power Delivery Port for charging iPad or iPhone. Looking at other docks, the spread of ports just isn’t as good. Basically, no wires trailing over the desktop with this dock! POSITIVEA Power Supply is supplied with the Dock - Some have asked why, but if you are using your laptop both docked and on the road, you will likely be pleased you don’t have to keep unplugging your Apple PSU to take it with you, it can stay in your laptop bag while your laptop charges on the dock. I see this as a POSITIVE!Twin cable connection - A really nice and straightforward connection. Effectively one plug and you are fully connected to two screens, all your drives, keyboard and mouse and wired network connection, and you are charging. It doesn’t get easier. If you only use one screen, you can get away with using a single TB cable, but I would avoid this as you have to remember these cables are doing everything; data transfer, charging laptop, video to 2 screens etc. Over one cable this would worry me on a laptop, but if you are “docking” a Mac mini, its probably safe enough as you won’t be charging a battery. POSITIVE.Compact - I don’t get why others complain it’s so small. Why take up unnecessary desktop space? I like that its compact, desk space is often limited enough as it is. POSITIVE.Driver free - Some other docks (mainly 1 Thunderbolt cable models) need drivers installing on your machine. This one does not. These drivers are often described as “Display Link” drivers. Basically what this means is it uses the laptop’s CPU rather than the GPU for the second screen. This slows down your machine unnecessarily as it’s using processing power to get a second screen working. I’m not sure why you would choose a dock that does this unless you have a standard M1 Or M2 chip. I’ve even seen the term display extension being used where you have to “extend” using AirPlay, this is just laughable. POSITIVE unless you have a standard M1 or M2 chip.Negatives (I’m being picky)In some cases if you have a USB mouse and keyboard, you might think there is one too few USB type A ports on the front. However, most of us have wireless keyboard and mice now so this probably won’t be a problem for most users. The 100W supplied PSU may not quite have enough power if you regularly dock a discharged i9 16” MacBook Pro and have serious power hungry devices plugged in to the dock. The result might be to some detriment of peripherals. In this case, this might not be the dock for you. Think carefully about the power requirements of everything you are using before purchasing. Like anything, there are power limits, exceed those and expect problems.Basically, if it gets hot, you are expecting too much and its time to rethink using the dock as a power supply for at least some peripherals. No microSD (TF) card reader might be a problem for some, but I think most of us have a microSD to SD Card adapter now.In UseI cannot fault it. It does exactly as promised and with the built in screen on the laptop I now have three screens which I can independently choose which is the main screen and which two are the extended screens. I also plug my SoundSticks into it and a USB Hub I had on a monitor riser which now has my laptop sitting on it. It’s running perfectly cool.ConclusionThere are less expensive hubs and docks available, but if you need to extend to 2 screens, this one does that where cheaper ones likely will not do so natively and without taking power from your CPU. I researched all docks capable of extending to multiple screens, there was a cheaper one, but it got poorer reviews, the rest were more expensive.

Not powerful at all, did not feel safe
I purchased this docking station for my macbookpro 2020, in the title it say 100W AC power but it does not have 100W Power Delivery... so it powered my macbook, connected my 2 hard drives to it but did not have enough power for the audio interface which created a horrible interference sound to come out of my speakers, it got really hot and I thought it was going to cause a short circuit, seemed really unsafe to me so I had to return and get my money back

Plug & Play
The price is slightly high considering the abundance of docking stations on the market but this one doesn’t disappoint when it comes to power, efficiently and quality. It does indeed work on both Mac and Windows, but I would say it functions benefit Macs the most. This is because of that thunderbolt 3 port. You get lightening connectivity from here. One thing to note, this dock comes with a dual USB-C connector. While it is nice to have, it is really not needed though. I have been able to plug in just one of the USB-C cables and the other end to my Mac mini and it charges and powers each device, plus it connects to my monitor and all peripherals.I am able to connect my monitor via HDMI, connect mouse/keyboard combo with one USB, and I can still plug in hard drives and everything else. All from one cable. This is pretty impressive and turns your desk into a really efficient working space. The build quality of the unit is really nice and looks great sat on the desk. High end materials were put into this and I have absolutely no complaints there. If your Windows computer can support Thunderbolt 3 or 4, this is for you. If it does not then I would suggest only getting this if you are a Mac user. As I’m a Mac user, I’m really getting the full potential out of this station and it has made my life so much easier. Once again I do believe the price is a little steep but the unit is very well built and works efficiently. Highly recommend.Hope this review helps.

Quite expensive equipment but very nice
This docking station has a lovely design, is excellent at transferring data, and is a great solution if you want a dual-monitor set up.The USB C docking station comes with gigabit ethernet and support for dual displays. It has three USB 3.0 ports with a maximum speed of 5Gbps, allowing you to access files quickly and read SD memory cards at the same time. It also has an extremely powerful standard 100W AC power adapter that charges the docking station and laptop battery while in use.One thing to keep in mind is that this dock has two USB-C connectors. Although it is nice to have, it is not necessary I think since I've been able to connect my Mac mini to one end of a USB-C cable to charge and power each device, as well as connect to my monitor and all peripherals. My monitor can be connected via HDMI, a mouse and keyboard can be connected to a single USB port, and I can still plug in hard drives and other devices. each from a single cable. This is quite impressive and makes your desk a very productive workspace. The unit has excellent build quality and looks great when placed on a desk. High quality materials were used in this, and I have no complaints at all.In my opinion, it is helpful, helps organise cables and utilize your laptop, but if you only use one computer, it is not necessary. In addition, even though it is an impressive piece of device, I still think it's overly priced.
