How many ounces of food can the thermos hold?

Not sure in oz. but its pretty small, about 1 cup of pasta or rice. But its perfect for my 4 year old twins.

How does the food like fruit and cheese stay cool and for how long? Does it need an ice pack?

OmieBox has 2 types of insulation. First – there's a stainless steel vacuum insulated thermos. We suggest putting your hot foods in here since this insulation is most powerful, and will keep food warm for up to 4 hours. Second – the entire box is air insulated & has a powerful airtight seal. This will keep your fruits and veggies cool & fresh. If you would like the food in the side compartments to stay really cold, then we suggest dropping a small ice pack or frozen tube of yogurt in there.

Will foods in non-Thermos compartments still be cool and safe to eat 6 to 7 hours later? Berries, cheese, yogurt?

Depends on the conditions. If the lunchbox sits in a hot car, probably not, but they will probably be fine with a kid in a classroom. While it is true that the divider in the left section does not seal to the top, the top section seems to seal fine. For yogurt it is going to get messy, as it will shift all around the compartment as you move, but the berries or cheese would be fine. We’ve been using it for a year and a half without issue.
