Bull Run: A Poignant Historical Novel of Northern and Southern Voices in the Civil War for Children (Ages 8-12) Review: Made history come to life! - Great historical fiction that we read this for our literary homeschool curriculum. The multiple first person accounts, even though fictional, were incredibly educational and absolutely fascinating. My 10yo and I devoured this book in 2 sittings because I wanted it to last longer, but we could have easily finished it in one go. We were so sad when it ended and wanted more! It made my father want to learn more about that time. We had planned on selling it to others using this same curriculum after finishing, but my daughter is insisting we keep this one. Some violence/gore and obviously racism from some views because it is a Civil War story, but it wasn't overwhelming for my sensitive 10yo. Review: I can sum it up in one word awesome!!! - This is an awesome book!!! I really liked it and am positive you will to I pretended to be the people in the book I like making up voices for the different people in the book it’s awesome I love it so will you please try it

Great read for all ages.
I bought this to read to my 8 year old who was very interested in the Civil War at the time. I really enjoyed it. The chapters are very short and concise and often written in the vernacular. Great for young readers beginning 3rd grade. I highly recommend for kids interested in history. Didn't give a full 5 stars only because my sons interest faded after several chapters. I think he didn't emotionally connect with the narrators. Each story has a new narrator which is such a great idea, but for some young readers that style may not draw them in. But don't let my son's lagging interest keep you from reading the book. Good for adults and young readers alike!

Enjoyed this read.
The book made me imagine what it must have been like to be alive during the Civil War. Pretty intense at times, but it was an intense time in our history. I couldn't stop thinking of the poem "War Is Kind" by Stephen Crane.

Slow March to Bull Run
Bull Run is told from many perspectives - German immigrant soldier, newspaperman, photographer, and other characters North and South. It is not a bad idea, but the characters are predictable and the overall effect is not very interesting.

History
Really good book. Fast read. Gives insight into what war was like to not just soldiers but the families who sent there loved ones to war in the Civil war.

Fun Read
This was a fun read with the story and sub-stories more portrayed/performed by the readers than a single narrator just reading a book.
