Great value for the cost!
Purchased for use in mostly warm-mild weather camping, but on the first night of use there was a cold weather warning for California. On top of a warm-weather inflatable sleeping pad, in what felt like 18°F temps and with a drizzling rain outside, this did not keep me warm. I was shivery the whole night. But! With another sleeping bag below it, or something to better insulate this bag from the sleeping pad I used, this was perfect. I liked the ease of getting in/out, the 2-way zippers, the roomy footbox, the electronics pocket and the weight/bulk were great (since I flew with it). I had purchased another sleeping bag before realizing it was a cotton foam inside, so I switched to this one because it was polyester (easier to dry if it got wet), and it was more lightweight and less bulky. I know this is more geared for Youth, but as a 5'1 person this fit me perfectly and meant I had less 'bag' to carry for the weight and bulk. Would not recommend if you are over 5'4. The bag it came in was ripped though, from the beginning, so that wasn't great but oh well.

Bought the scout version for my scouts
I am a former outdoor guide and long distance hiker with three kids, two of whom are in a scout troop and are starting to do some cool weather camping. During a Prime deal, I bought them each a 20F Trailhead bag in the short "scout" size and a 5F Tracker bag from Teton Sports. I wanted something that would be comfortable, durable, and affordable that would also be light enough for them to take backpacking during the warmer months. We tested out the 20 degree bags this week on a fall camping trip with temps getting down to 46F at night. They all reported that the bags kept them warm. We were in a tent in a sheltered area with little wind, and they wore fleece sweatshirts and sweatpants. They are small to medium-sized for their age. With good base layers, socks, and a hat, I would trust these bags in slightly colder weather, but for anything colder than 40, we plan on switching to the 5 degree bags to make sure they stay cozy. We don't plan on doing any winter backpacking with the kids quite yet, so weight won't be an issue when using the 5 degree bags. Overall we are very happy with these bags' performance for the price!

Great for backpacking. Weight and size are amazing.
Even as a 5'6 180 pound female this scout sleeping bag is great. In low 40s pouring rain this sleeping bag kept me very warm and comfortable. I feel very secure in bringing on my 20 degree hike in November. The size this sleeping bag gets to is just amazing. It fits in my Teton backpack perfectly. Extremely light weight. The only reason I rank this a 4 is the bottom zipper came loose first time getting into it and Ive now stitched it. Its unfortunately unuseable unless i remove the stitching, but it works for me since itll be so cold Id rather make sure it stays closed. Be careful with your zippers. Otherwise great sleeping bag.

Fantastic bag at a fantastic price!
Ok let's start with the obvious. This bag is eye catching! I got the tangerine and gray and it is beautiful. Now that I'm done gushing about that, let me tell you the interior of this bag is one of the softest things my skin has ever brushed up against. Perfect snuggling up in. Alright, down to the nitty gritty. I'm 5'4' 120 lbs. This bag is long enough I can pull up past my shoulders with an few inches to spare at the bottom. (Note I have not put my head in the hood). It was roomy enough for me also width wise so I did not feel like an actual mummy. I get claustrophobic feeling pretty easy so I was worried about a mummy bag but I was quite comfortable. The night I tested the bag, it got down to right about 50 degrees. I had on long pants (no socks) and a short sleeved tee. My bag was laid out on a Thermarest mat. It took probably an hour or so for my body to warm the bag, but once it did I was perfectly comfortable. I will say if I were to take it on a colder night, I would bring a thermal liner or extra blanket. All things considered an excellent bag for it's price tag. I will be purchasing more Teton products in the future!

Probably more for 40-50F but decent bag
This is a good, light weight bag that packs decently small. I'm 5'2" and fit comfortably in the short. Unfortunately I find it a bit too tight in the knee area to ever get comfortable but that's really just because of how I find it comfortable sleep and I don't really like mummy bags in general. What this does mean though is that there isn't a ton of space if you want to put gear in your bag with you to keep warm. The hood is quite comfortable but I would not rate this for 20F. I've used this in Alaska in August and the CO mountains in late May and even with a sleeping pad and thermal layers was frozen both times even though the temps were above freezing. You won't die at 20F but you definitely won't be comfortable either. I'd rate this as more of a 40-50F sleeping bag but for the price I'm glad I gave it a try.

Awesome buy for this price
Awesome bag in the offered price. I ordered bag 3 days before my bagpacking trip and didn’t have time to exchange for big version So I just returned it. —I’m 5’8.5” inches high. So I thought i could fit in a scout version which is 75”. But it was too tight as you can see in pictures. —-I couldn’t test it in outside weather. But it was really warm. seemed warm enough to take care of 40 degrees weather. —-Its light weight as advertised. —You can guess the hight of the packed sack from picture as I placed a water bottle along with it. —Felt a bit tough to me to put back in the sack. But maybe I’m not good at folding. — has a nice full zipper at right side as you can see in a picture —All in all a good bag if you can carry a 3-4 pound of extra stuff in your hiking pack. If you want lighter for same weather, Be prepared to shed a lot more money. —I’m 5’8” 160pound with broad shoulders. Check the photos how scout version fits me.

No where near the ratings!
I camp and backpack frequently and have a lot of gear so I didn't want to spend a lot on another sleeping bag since I have a great winter bag and a summer quilt. I was looking for an intermediate bag. I took this bag to Yosemite in August. It dropped into the high 40s at night and I froze all night. 2nd chance; I took it camping this weekend. Night time temperature was 45. Would have froze again but brought an extra blanket. I am really surprised at this 20 degree bag. I understand the rating is a survival rating and not a comfort rating but an almost 30 degree difference should have more than accounted for that. I asked the person I was camping with to try out this bag to see if it was me. Unfortunately he froze the next night. I've missed the Amazon return window so I'll be calling Teton Sports directly. This is definitely NOT a 20 degree bag no matter what sleeping pad you have under you. If you're looking for a cheap summer sleeping bag this is it otherwise take a hard pass.

Great value bag, if you fit in it
I own 3 of these, 2 of the regular size and 1 of the "scout" size (Teton actually calls these "short", and they're not even listed on their website). I'm specifically reviewing the scout version. It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the regular version. The stuff sack is a bit thicker and more rugged/tougher than the bigger version, but I purchased the 2 bigger sized bags a year or so ago so it's possible that's what they're using for all the bags now. The box says it's 6'3" long. I'm 5'9", 150 pounds and fit in it really well. Note that when I say that, it's a mummy bag, and a short version at that. It is NOT roomy. It is not wide. It's a backpacking mummy bag, so don't get it to be comfortable. It goes a couple inches past my head if my feet are all the way pushed down into the foot box. Again, I'm 5'9" 150 and I'm pushing the limits for the scout version. I use these bags for backpacking, and sleep with them in a hammock and slept in 50 degrees no underquilt and into the 40s with an underquilt and have been fine. At under 2.5 pounds, under $50, for a +20 bag, you would be very hard pressed to find a better value if you fit in it.

Best sleeping bag for the price
NOT comfortable at 20F/-7C, but usable down to around freezing. Best at 40F/5C and above. You will NOT be comfortable at 20F/-7C with this sleeping bag, in fact you'd be far too cold to sleep. However, with thermal underwear, warm socks, a beanie (or head covering of some sort), a quality sleeping pad, and inside of a 4-season tent, I've used this sleeping bag in sub-zero temperatures without any real issues. That being said, anything below freezing is uncomfortable, even with the above mentioned gear. Just remember not to open it once you settle in for the night, or you'll lose a lot of heat... In terms of comfort (which highly depends on the individual), I'd say it's "acceptable" down to around 32F/0C (while wearing the aforementioned cold weather gear), and warm or "comfortable" down to around 40F/5C (with the mentioned gear). The 20F/-7C rating is likely the "survivable" temperature, at which you would be very uncomfortable and likely unable to sleep due to the cold, but not die from hypothermia. I've also used it in warmer temperatures by simply reducing what I wear while sleeping, and leaving the bag unzipped. Overall it's a quality sleeping bag, light weight, and offers much better size/warmth performance of any sleeping bag anywhere near the price. I've used mine for a number of years now and recently bought two more for friends, as it is better than anything found in German stores for anywhere near the price. Highly recommended for backpackers/trekkers who don't plan to sleep in temperatures much colder than 40F/5C (unless you have additional quality cold weather gear). A compression sack is necessary to further reduce the size; my medium sea-to-summit compression sack holds my sleeping bag, inflatable pillow, thermal underwear, beanie, gloves, warm socks, and a few other soft/compressible items, yet is still smaller than the sleeping bag is without a compression sack). As for a compression sack, I recommend Sea to Summit, as I've had mine for years and never had any issues.

GRAN COMPRA
