In April, we moved to another house. This house had a very neglected pond in the back yard with 5 goldfish in it. It was cooler, so the pond water was clear, but was obviously in need of some attention as the bottom was covered with muck. A few weeks after we moved, the weather got warmer and the pond water started to turn green. The existing filter equipment was not in working condition, so I decided to buy this filter while I try to get the external filter equipment working. By the time the filter arrived, the water was completely green and I couldn't even see the fish anymore. I put this filter together, added the little fountain and plunked it into the water. At first, I was cleaning the filter out 2x per day. It was working! I started to be able to see the fish once again, instead of orange blurs. Two weeks of 24 hour filtering resulted in much clearer water. Now we are at 1 month with daily cleaning and the water is completely clear and I can see that my 5 goldfish have turned into 6!! I definitely recommend this filter for your pond. It is easy to clean, easy to use and worked better than I had expected. I have zero experience with outdoor decorative ponds, but this little filter did its job and cleared the completely murky water within a few weeks.

Great filter. Had this filter prior for at least 5 years in our turtle pond and got a new one as it died out. The new one is running great and does a great job keeping the pond clean. My husband said it is easy to clean. I like the fountain effect and the lights at night. Great pump worth the money.

I purchased this filter to try to address a suspended algae problem in a 7' diameter x 4' deep pond I put in last summer. Already had a pond cartridge filter with charcoal and a second pump for circulation but wasn't having much luck. Decided on the larger version of this pump because of the promise of the UV filter and the volume of water I needed to move. The effects are not immediate, but as you can see in my pics it is a noticeable change. It took my pond a little longer than what others have posted. I think YMMV depending on the volume of water involved and how bad the algae is. I can highly recommend this pump to clean up suspended algae.

After jumping through some serious hoops to find whom to talk to about getting this refunded/replaced, we finally found contact info and we were able to get them to replace the pump part free of charge. I'd give it 5 stars if it were easier to find whom TO CONTACT to get a refund/replacement. The unit when working is fantastic. We have a large 3000-gallon pond that is built into our retaining wall and hill that held our Koi AND Goldfish. Last year we had a HUGE Goldfish spawn and ended up with over 100 babies to get rid of, on top of the adults we had (around 15) so we decided to create a smaller pond JUST for our goldfish. It was a REAL challenge catching them all in our larger pond, but by the end of the summer last year we had managed to catch them all and put them into the smaller pond, which is about 250-300 gallons. I found this filter and it seemed like just what I needed for the smaller pond so we ordered one in the spring of 2020. I liked the fact that it had the UV filter in it as well since it's a fairly small pond and has about 10 goldfish in it. I also liked that it had the fountainhead because I did not have any water surface movement on the right side. Sadly by the end of the season, around September it completely stopped working. I have no clue why, but it's completely DEAD!! It's unfortunate that it broke so soon because it really was working great. Not sure if we just got a bum one, or if they all just conk out after a short period of time, but we will be looking for a new one in the spring again and we probably will not spend the $$ for this one, which was a bit pricy!! But we spend a LOT of money on our ponds each year, we just need to VALUE from what we spend, it's not a cheap hobby to have Koi! lol

**Update** Five phone calls to the customer service. No one to speak to - the only option is to leave a voice mail, of which tells you they will contact you the next business day. The UV bulb is blown and the ring to screw the pump into the filter housing is broke, which is indicated in my original post. No one has called me back - wow, this is terrible customer service and I for one am extremely disappointed and do not recommend this unit to anyone. Bad design, bad customer service - just bad. I am purchasing another filter today and placing this unit in the garbage at the end of the week. Shame one you Pennington.....have the courtesy to serve your customers! I would give this unit a 5 star rating if it didn't break where the pump assembly is attached to the filter/UV housing. This is a known and documented problem for other users. Works as stated. Beautiful light for night display. Clear water, requires regular cleaning (monthly). Easy to clean and design is simple and straight forward. Bad design or inferior material for the screw sleeve to hold pump onto filer base/UV light. Screw collar is thin and breaks easily. No replacement part to order. Pump/fountain/light assembly is heavy and the attachment breaks. Currently at Home Depot looking for PVC fittings/collars/sleeves to adapt to support pump assembly to the filter base unity. I have seen comments regarding this same problem and my filter is only 2 months old, second time cleaning it. I picked up the filter base unit by the handle as directed and the pump assembly fell off as I removed it from the pond.

Have been running continually for over two years! Price was fair.

Update 7/21/20. The pump is barely functioning. The output of water has gotten very poor and the pump continuously floats and turns on its side. I use a rock to hold it down. I've tried to keep it clean, rinsing filters a couple rimes a week. This filter is beautiful and efficient. I didn't notice my electric bill increasing so must not use much electric. My little fish pond was a mess when I got this and within 24 hours, it had it almost clear and 48 hours it was clear and clean! I accidentally dropped mine not long after getting it and broke off the light and I was devastated but someone was able to rewire and glue it back together so it is safe. So, if you buy one, be careful but I would definitely recommend this filter!

I am a new pond owner,first pond insert and goldfish. I had from the beginning wanted a old green algea filled pond. I did not want to run electricity for a pump so I purchased a solor pump which was not good enough with solor floating fountains,after having the fish and when the water was clear I loved spending time watching the fish. So I bought a pond pump filter from lowes ,it just couldn't keep the algea away and I would spend time sump pumping the water and refilling with new water especially after the rain. So I searched for a new bigger better pump,my pond is only about 250 gallons and the 300 said it was good for up to 225 gallons, I also read you can't over size on a pump ,so I went with the 5 in 1 600. Just cleaned out the pond and put the new pump in last night,I watched several YouTube videos on how this pump works and how to put it together and install it. Super easy . My only concern was once it got dark the light continued to flash ,I'm not sure if the bulb had to warm up but it finally stopped and it looks amazing. My other concern is that this is guaranteed to keep your pond clear but it says for 1 yr. So we will see I hope it lasts alot longer especially with the process I pd.

Great product. Instructions were well detailed. Operates as it should. Had to add some weight on top of the unit without covering all the vents to hold it down. Only flaw I felt is that it didn’t come with a cap to cover the additional port to a waterfall accessory. But a small hose and bolt fixed that. Would recommend to anyone.

This pond filter doesn’t work well because by the looks of it the piece that needs to first connect to the fountain does not fit, the green connection piece is not wide enough. I had the 300 gallon of the same brand and it worked just fine. But upgraded my pond this spring and bought the next size up for 600 gallon ponds. As you can see from the video. It is leaking. Please help correct this …. Pond filter is too expensive for this type of mistake…

Great little pump

Well designed and an efficient use of space. I was impressed with how solid and well put together the unit is. Concerns about floating in other reviews were a non issue, once full of water the unit sat perfect on the base of our pond. The ball joints make for easy adjustment of the fountain. Only point that I was not expecting was the second power cord. One for the pump, one for the UV light. Not a problem, just needed to adjust how we conceal them.
