A must read book for the young generation
Mr Hardyal Singh has brilliantly summarised the stories of 17 individuals to give examples of how our Karma impacts us or how to handle a situation we have been offered in life. Each story has a very deep meaning which has been explained in an equally brilliant way by the famous Gurcharan Das himself. While I felt that the Introduction played a spoiler since the suspense of what lies inside was broken, so I suggest that the readers read the stories in any sequence and then the author’s epilogue before reading the Introduction.Mr Hardyal Singh has an exceptional knowledge about the functioning of human mind and the work of all great philosophers which he wonderfully explains in his stories while explaining the dilemmas faced by the characters in his stories.I would love to gift this book to all the youngsters who join my organisation.Way to go, Mr Singh - heartiest congratulations on your first book & look forward to many more brilliant books from you.

This subject is so relevant in today's world and the book has been extremely well written.
The author comes across as being highly knowledgeable not only in his professional sphere but also in practical terms. The timing and relevance of this book is perfect because today's world is changing faster than ever before and so often we are faced with situations that demand quick, gut based decisions and actions. Infact many of us just react without even thinking of all the possible effects and consequences of how we act or speak. This book lays out a clear cut path for us to understand our own moral and ethical makeup and the priciples which we need to decide to abide by. A must read indeed. By reading this book I have an opportunity to rethink and reset my own moral compass, keeping in mind how I'd like to be remembered. This book is a "must have" guide and a practical manual for these times. It truly is a valuable compass to have.

Interesting stories that make you pause and reflect.
A good read and reminder of a human trait and value that can easily get hazy in the complexities of present day life. But one that is refreshed (as it should be from time to time) even if by fictional stories like the ones shared in this book. These stories are not far from the type of tough decisions one needs to take regularly in life. These stories make us pause and reflect, and hopefully make us more appreciative of the importance and impact of thoughtful and mindful choices on our lives and those of others, as we navigate our way through life.

Well written and very relatable
Anyone who has read this book would have immediately related at least one or two stories to his own experiences. All of us have high expectations in life and have to cope up with failures and frustrations. The author has very carefully avoided any sermonizing and delicately attempted to offer a road map to overcome the same. The author's philosophic approach and simple language are the hallmarks of thismagnificent book. The characters have been given fictitious names but they are like living human beings we come across in our livesI would specially urge the youngsters to read this book as it will also help them to persue the right path in life.

A real compass to guide you towards the right direction in life
It's an amazing book which acts as a real compass for those who are confused at different junctures of the life. It guides you to go in the right direction whether it is a professional setup or your personal life. There are multiple aspects of core human values (authenticity, humility, forgiveness etc.) covered in the book. The best part is that all the characters, although fictitious, are totally relatable. Next time you face any dilemma, have this book handy to help you make the right decision.

Not very Impressive.
The Book popped up as a recommendation on Amazon when I was searching for the latest book by the author Gurucharan Das, who happens to be someone I love reading.Though it was clear the book is not written by him, considering the foreword was from Gurucharan Das, I felt it would be built on top of the nature of work he has related to Dharma and Morality. However the book was a big disappointment. It just has a collection of story that reads more like a moral science book that should be there in schools for children to Imbibe. Nothing engaging or inspiring in terms of forcing you to think of your beliefs or questioning your beliefs related to Morality. The Irony of it all was... Was it morally right on the part of the Author to advertise and highlight the Name 'Gurucharan Das' on the cover in order to sell the book that is on the topic of Morality... perhaps its a Moral question the author needs to answer...

Ever faced dilemma in life?: it's a must read then
The Moral Compass strings thoughtful stories drawn from instances and people around us. Many real life examples that teach us valuable lesson not to be ignored. The book never gets in preaching mode and story telling remains the essence. In a refreshingly light reading the moral of the story sticks to the mind. The author using simple and crisp sentences brings out a master piece. He wonderfully draws out experiences from his long career as a civil servant. It's a must read.

A Perfect Balance of Lived experience, Professional Expertise and Human Empathy
This book is an essential read for anyone who seeks to understand the state-society frontier in a fast-changing India. Each chapter provides examples of complex issues that are at play in the lives of real middle- and upper-class professionals who serve in positions of authority in India today. The moral dilemmas of characters such as Prasad, Dr. Chand, Mangatlal, Nina, and Captain Devaiah, are fascinating in their own right. The author interprets the moral dilemmas faced by these characters within the frame of his own vast professional, as well as his in-depth understandings of Indian moral and philosophical thought. There is considerable empathy throughout the text. I highly recommend this book to students, professors and all those who seek to understand life at that complex frontier of state and society in a post-colonial state that is changing at breathtaking speed.

Timely and important book
This book highlights, through interesting examples, how our everyday decisions can implicitly involve complex moral judgements. Through relatable language and effective stories, the author highlights how ethics based decisions are such an integral, unspoken part of our daily routine and life. It provokes us to be thoughtful about our actions and reflective when contemplating any course of action. As humans we are prone to making decisions that reflect our individual goals, and this book is an important reminder that simplicity, humility and forgiveness should guide our actions and relationships.
