A very useful book
I purchased the Health Care Manager's Human Resources Handbook for a class I took on health care HR management. The book does an excellent job of discussing different aspects of the job of a manager. The book starts with an overview of the origins of the human resources office. It does an excellent job of discussing employement laws. It may be a little dated since the book was revised in 2007. The chapters on recruiting, hiring, performance appraisals, and discipline are especially informative. Finally, the book gives good advice on how to handle unions in a way that appears to be pro-management but not confrontational. This is refreshing in light of recent events in several states regarding collective bargaining fights. The book doesn't just give advice to managers but provides insight to those seeking a job in the health care industry.
