100% completely spill proof! Absolute must have for travel.
I am so impressed because this bowl totally exceeded my expectations! First off, I live in my van with my two 90+lb pit bulls. I could not find a way to provide a water bowl they did not instantly spill. Since their only area in the van is my bed that was a huge problem. So I had to stop and give them water frequently. I was familiar with the Buddy Bowl from working in the pet industry but had never actually used one myself. I am so glad I chose to give the Buddy Bowl a shot because it works. It really, truly works. It holds plenty of water for my boys. It is as easy to fill as any open bowl. My dogs used it instantly. I filled it and flipped it upside down and over and over. Only a few small drops came out. So, I tossed it on my bed and drove off. As I drove one of my dogs was drinking. When I stopped and got out there was zero water anywhere. I drove over terrible torn up roads, speed bumps, deep dips in the road and sharp turns. Nothing spilled, not a single drop. Nor was there any drooly, dribbles anywhere from either dog. Both had used it at this point. Then later, one of them flipped it over and it was upside down for 25 mins before I stopped again. I picked it up expecting to find at least some spillage. Again nothing. Couple small drops, but I am so ok with that! Seriously, if you travel in an RV, car or are a vanlifer or have a bowl flipping dog BUY THIS BOWL. I bought the 64 oz and it's perfect for my guys. It does help with the dribbling, and it's heavy enough when full to not tip over easily. It's very sturdy, too. Unless your dog chews it up, it will hold up. It is extremely hard to open. But, I imagine that's due to the excellent waterproof seal of the lid. But, that does make it harder to clean. I am just so totally impressed by the quality construction and that it is completely spill proof! I recommend this highly and it has been a miracle for myself and my dogs. Hope this long winded review helps people decide to give it a try.

The end of water being everywhere !!! Love it !!!
We have a golden retriever puppy who was "swimming" in the water bowl at 8 to 9 weeks, and NOTHING would stop her, corrections were not working and well she is just very young to retain much although she is learning. In any case, this will SAVE our wood floors and on the other level of the house the tile grout which was getting soaked several times a day when she went swimming in the regular bowl. This one is almost entirely swim -proof. she can easily get her little face in for the water and tried to get a paw in, but realizes it is not going to work for "swimming" ...so far after only a few hours with this bowl, we are very pleased. The other dog is annoyed but started to drink from it right away also although he does not understand why we need this change. The bowl is SUPER sturdy and strong. She is a chewer also and tried to and could not get a grip on this one to do much with it, and that was the end of her trying to chew on it or tip it over, it is a nice heavier weight, with strong construction. Almost took away a star for it being a bit of a challenge to open it up (wanted to wash it first of course) and so that is to be considered but it takes a minute but once you get the hang of how it pops open it is fine. I did want to mention that as if you have issues with hand strength it could be a bit of a challenge but WORTH it to avoid the water mess. This bowl is the real deal, so happy to have found it. Purchased both sizes as the 44 oz is better for the puppy but truly even a big dog could use it.

Actually spill proof, hard to open but worth it (updated review)
5/23/2017 - This bowl's functionality is amazing. Between the dog who likes to carry his water dish around and the toddler who wants to flip it over, it's been thoroughly tested and is fully spill proof. It's a pretty brilliant design. The only downside is that I'm a strong woman and can't open it without using a butter knife to pry it open. My husband can open without additional tools but it still takes him a minute or two of effort. We try to avoid opening it more than once a day, but in mud season we have to open it to rinse it out multiple times and it's a challenge each time. I'd buy it again to avoid constantly wet floors and a thirsty dog, but I hope they fix this design flaw. 2/8/2020 Upping this to 5 stars because despite the lid being a pain to open, this is the only bowl weโve used in nearly three years and it has stood up to kids who flip it upside down and stand on it, puppies who chew on it, and a big dog that likes to pick it up, run outside, and hide it in the backyard. As a note, it will get mildewed if you donโt clean it regularly - Iโm sticking with the clear version so I can see if thereโs green scum.

Spill proof, but not completely efficient
Love this bowl but no product is without flaws, Id put it at 4.5 stars if I could. Ill start by saying disassembly on current production bowls are simple. Its just a simple twist and then it all comes apart. What I dont like: as a result of its simple and practical design, a good amount of water (regardless of which size you order) becomes undrinkable when the bowl goes past a certain level. This ultimately leads to wasted water. You could just top it off but if your dog is like any dog, they probably like to drink after eating. Eventually crumbs, dust, and maybe even dirt (because my dog likes to paw her bowl) will get in. That being said, when I first filled it to the line I intentionally flipped it sideways and rolled it around. Not a drop in sight. Im really satisfied with it but if I had to buy another I'd go down a size.

Works like a charm!
My toddler was the reason I initially ordered this! She loved to dump the dog water onto the kitchen floor and I was tired of cleaning up lake after lake. At first it was too heavy for her to even pick up but she's stronger now and can tip it over. Luckily the bowl works as well as it claims! No spill. No lake. I will say that it doesn't completely prevent your kid from playing in the water though. All it stopped was my kid spilling it. Every now and then I have to redirect her from the water bowl because she like to dip her hands in and then rub her head like she's washing her hair.. Gross to us but to her it's fun! The only thing is that the first couple times you open it, it's tough. It's strong, durable plastic so I had to use a flathead screwdriver to pry it open. That's not the case anymore. It still locks in place when I put the top on but I can now open it with just my hands. Cleaning the bowl is easy. The parts disassemble to the point where you can clean every part and not worry about bacteria clumping up anywhere. My dog and two cats didn't skip a beat and drink from it just fine. I was worried my dogs head would be too wide (she's a pit bull) and she might not like to drink from it but that wasn't the case. I've also noticed that less kibble makes it into the water bowl. All in all I think this product is fantastic! If you have toddlers or even a dog that likes to knock over their bowl I personally find this to be a great solution.

What a great water bowl!
I had bought a small water bowl that only had a lid with an angled hole to resist splashing which worked for my German Shepard mix since he was fairly relaxed but his half pitbull son was an entirely different story. Always fairly excited, strong as an ogre (and about as intelligent...) would often times tip the old bowl over and spill up to a quart of water all over the floor of my semi. Finally got fed up with that and figured I'd give this bowl a try after hearing it was here on Amazon after the current company bought out the original inventor of the bowl. When it arrived, I washed it out and filled it up. I didn't notice there was a maximum fill line on the internal cone piece and over filled it. Well, obviously when I turned it over in the sink it dumped a lot of water out but when I filled it to the line it kept every bit of water inside while I turned it completely over and back up again. It had even better retention in the only area my other bowl which is shaking the bowl back and forth in an attempt to get the water to slosh up and out and I could only manage to get it to do that when I shook it excessively, way harder than it would have experienced on the truck. This bowl is absolutely awesome! I'll try to remember to get an accurate measurement and pictures of I remember. So far I'm fairly happy.

Does not spill
If I could Iโd give this 10 stars. My 1 year old recently became obsessed with my dogs water bowl. He was sticking his face in it, splashing in it, picking it up - it had become a nightmare. This bowl solved ALL problems. He can no longer stick his face in it because the hole is too small. He can no longer splash in it because thereโs not much visible water. As far as picking it upโฆ he still does that AND IT DOES NOT SPILL. This boy had it practically upside down and not a drop came out. As far as my dog and this water bowlโฆ great. He was the type of drinker who had water splash out the side of his mouth and when he was done it dripped everywhere so it was always a mess. This eliminates the water splashing out the side because he has to go down into the bowl to drink. Really - for a messy drinker and a toddler โฆ this bowl is essential. I will say it IS difficult to open but itโs not impossible. We ran the bowl under hot water and it worked just fine.

Not spill-proof, but beats a regular bowl
I REALLY want to love this product. And mostly, I do. But it has some issuesโฆ To specify at the start, I ordered the 64oz size in black. Firstly, it does NOT have a snap on/off lid like the video shows and like the other sizes have. Instead, it has a screw on/off lid. Which can be a bit challenging to remove when itโs screwed on tight, but otherwise it is easier than the other reviews make it seem. I am curious if the new screw top design is maybe not as leak proof as the old snap on design? Cons: Iโm not sure if itโs my specific bowl or the product itself, but it definitely leaks when tipped over sideways. No matter how tightly I put the lid on, if the bowl is tipped on its side, it will have a steady leak. Weโre in the truck every day and frequently off-road, so the bowl has landed sideways a couple times and caused a puddle. The price was worth it to me for the spill-proof design. Considering the leak, Iโm on the fence about it being worth the cost. Pros: If it flips completely upside down, it wonโt spill aside from a few drops. Which is a HUGE improvement from a regular bowl. It also drastically improves the mess created by messy drinkers and the amount of slobbery water on the floor when he drinks is significantly lessened. Works great in the truck and doesnโt spill even though I hear it sloshing around (unless it lands on itโs sideโฆ) Overall, it is a HUGE improvement over a regular dog bowl. And maybe itโs just my specific bowl thatโs defective, but I havenโt heard other reviews for the new model yet so Iโm not sure.

Best dog bowl ever
This is amazing no spilling at all and my floors and car are dry. Just canโt get the kid off to clean. There must be a trick but canโt figure it out yet.

Great for travelling as well
Love this bowl, I bought it because I was taking my dogs on a road trip. I put it in the back of the suv with the dogs so they would have water on hand at all time. It never spilled over and the dogs made less mess because it helps with the droolly mess they make.

Cats refuse to use it
I know this is advertised for dogs, so it's mainly my own fault, but I desperately need a spill proof water bowl to use in the car while travelling long distances. As many have mentioned, it was nearly impossible to open the first time. Finally my daughter used a table knife under the edge of the lid to pry it open. Ran it through the dishwasher before trying to use it, as it had a very strong plastic smell when it arrived. Tested it in the house. Sadly the opening is too narrow? steep? for my cats to be willing to use it, as they have to basically push their whole face up against the plastic to get to the water, and cats don't like having their whiskers pushed around like that. Guess I'm back to the shopping stage. I'll pass this on to a friend who has long-snouted dogs, as the basic idea is good and I'm pretty sure it would do the job of not spilling in the car. but since my cats won't drink from it, it's no use to me.

Buy it!
My boxer mastiff would slobber water everywhere everytime he drank. We had a mop beside his bowl so it would always be handy. This bowl is awesome! Rocky still drips water but its minimal and not puddles. He did chew and break off a part of the plastic though...still, 100% recommend

Good but pricey
Works well but not sure it is worth the price. Time will tell.
