Fascinating desk decoration. A modern version of a lava lamp, but interactive. I love them!
I bought one of each of the wood colored and the gray colored Ferrofluid Music Mate. There is a lot to love about these little magic dancing boxes. Both of them look great and the overall workmanship is really good. I bought them as gifts for my two teenage boys, and they both really loved them. For those looking to buy one, I will outline the things that I really enjoyed about it, and some minor things to be aware of. I really liked that it is not a speaker. (I have plenty of those) It has a very sensitive microphone that controls the action of the ferrofluid. Even talking in the same room will create motion in the fluid. The louder and more consistent sound will keep it in the center. When it is quiet, the ferro fluid often drops out of the center. This is fine and adds to the motion. The back of the round glass is white and lights up when the unit is on. It is reasonably bright and really accents the ferrofluid. I thought the jewel in the corner would light up, but it does not. There is a really bright blue led on the back to indicate power, but it can be covered if needed. As a bonus, it comes with a really strong small magnet attached to a holder that looks like a chess pawn. It is really fun to move the fluid around and interact with it. One unit's magnet was actually two smaller magnets and could be split apart. This might not be great for little kids, but I don't have that worry. I don't remember if this was common to both units. The magnets work regardless if the unit is powered on not. When you get it, it is normal to have some extra non-ferrofluid oil in the unit (looks like a floating light brown bubble). Both mine had this. If you set the unit on it's side the oil will be prominently displayed at the top edge of the glass, which doesn't look great. If you place the unit vertically as shown in the pictures here, there is a small indent behind the edge of the wood that traps and hides that oil. My older son had wanted it to sit under the monitor, but it really needs to be in the normal vertical orientation to look right. My kids leave them plugged in, but they do have a battery so they will run on their own. I have not tested this much, but they ran for at least a few hours on Christmas before we plugged them in. If you are looking for an awesome desk gadget, a replacement for your lava lamp that is long gone, or a really neat toy that is brimming with science, this is a perfect gift for you.

Curiosity and Wonder Inspiring!
These are absolutely awesome and give a feeling of wonder to everyone who sees them! I have had my own for about 2 years now and gave one as a gift to my partner about a year ago. We both keep them in our offices, so we get constant compliments and inspire curiosity and joy as people watch it respond, move, dance to voices and music. It honestly looks just how it does in videos of it -- super cool and a little out of this world! I love seeing it even after two years and it works beautifully, was easy to setup, and remains just as responsive, clean (the glass is clear), and interesting to this day!!

Very cool desk toy and conversation starter
This thing is super fun. I keep it on my desk and talk to it to make it dance when Iโm bored. I let it charge overnight and then during the workday it runs on battery all day no problem (~9 hours generally). I turn it away a lot so that people who come into my office are greeted by it and itโs been a big hit. People love it and itโs even diffused some stressful situations. Great conversation starter. The ferrofluid itself is very reactive to the magnets and when it really gets going, it likes to split apart into smaller forms and then reform later. Itโs a ton of fun to watch. One caveat to all of this: the first one I ordered had a manufacturing defect (dark line across the width of the white backing circle) and suboptimal ferrofluid reactivity. I exchanged it and the replacement was perfect, so no harm no foul.

Bad QualityโWonโt last a YEAR!
Worked great for the first few months. And then it sat on our shelf for many months without use. Today (only 9 months after purchase), I noticed a new bubble inside the water filled with a weird brown oily substance. The fact that this happened less than a year into ownership says a lot about this product. I expected far better quality for this much money.

Not sure if itโs worth the price but it is indeed a cool item!
Saw this on a YouTube channel and bought immediately for my musician boyfriend! He loves it and we both agree that its hypnotic and fun to watch dancing around. Had to knock off a star because itโs wildly expensive for what it is however we still enjoy it!

Got this for my son for Christmas! He loves it...
My son wanted a ferrofluid bottle for Christmas and I didn't think it was that big a deal. He let me know right before Christmas that was one of the things he really wanted. So I ordered a cheap $30 ferrofluid bottle. But then I saw this and thought, "Maybe this will be cool too." Boy was I right!! He LOVES this gift and while it wasn't super cheap, it was by far and away his most appreciated gift and I felt really good about it because it showed I was listening and I went above and beyond what he had asked for. That said, how well does it work. It is pretty solid. You aren't going to get wild, bottle filling gyrations, but it does dance with music or talk. It responds very well to lower frequencies. And it is very neat that it has a battery, so when you unplug it and haul it around, you don't have to plug it in again to get it to work. This is a really clever design, would be great for a science teacher, and for any science minded person who "has everything."

Straight up one of the coolest pieces of home decor/lighting I've ever seen...
Let alone owned, haha. Ferrofluid reaction time seamlessly aligns to any auditory stimuli I've thrown at it thus far, yet its "performance" doesn't devolve into senseless, schizophrenic squiggles when the available stimuli becomes a cacophonous rat's nest to human ears. The hardware's aesthetic & craftsmanship seems straight out of Star Trek or its closet competitor, making the Sovenomund a surefire conversation piece in any circumstance one might set it up. Any skepticism I may have fought through to finally click the "Add to Cart" button on this guy has been eradicated, completely & without mercy.

Lives up to expectations.
It tottally lives up to the expectations, has a powerful sensor that makes the bubble dance to anything, even normal human conversations and sounds. It's a great accessory to your desk or in a living room next to the sound system.
