American Campcraft Camping Axe with Premium Genuine Leather Sheath

Recently gave this ax to my son’s Cub Scout leader as we moved up to Boy Scouts. Engraved with a message, it was a cool gift and Very high quality. Had to purchase an additional for my jealous husband.

I like it a lot, after sharpening (hardware store grind) it is very sharp. A little heavy but I bought it to fill a gap between a 27" and a hatchet. Great value.

I did some research on this axe:it's made by Council Tool, and it is basically their Hudson's Bay axe, repackaged as the Expedition Gear camp axe. So that means that you are getting a very well made hammer forged tool, that is consistent with the manufacturers specs. in annealing, metalergic steel make up, and quality control. A giant hammer forge is used to get the shape and pound out impurities...then off to finishing. The process involves monsterous mschines and alot of skill by the operator to get the desired product. You can watch them being made on utube. Council Tool is like the KaBar knives of axe makers. the only difference between their premium version ($149.00 + -) and this one is a polished head, and the weight....so, you're getting a great deal of axe for the money....there standard version is the same as this one. I love mine...and did a little customization of my own.

the sheath doesnt fit the axe well, is there somthing i can do about that?

Excellent quality for the price though my only gripe is that the blade wasn't as sharp as I'd like it but that was an easy fix. I stained and whipped the handle to make it my own,don't be afraid to buy it.

This hatchet has very good head to total weight balance. I was disappointed with the narrow grip area on the handle. I plan on adding leather to the handle. Very sharp and stays that way.
