Ethiopia from the time when the Queen of Sheba ruled
Ethiopia has a long rich history that Captivating History managed to cover in 100 pages. This book starts out by letting us know that Ethiopia is one of the first places humans settled in. One of the first kingdoms in Ethiopia was the Kingdom of Aksum. Like most African countries, Aksum established trade routes and had the silk road running through their kingdom. The Queen of Sheba is a controversial historical leader. Many scholars believe she was queen in Ethiopia. The bible states that a queen of the south came to Israel to meet King Solomon. Historians believe that the queen of the south was in fact the Queen of Sheba. While the queen was there her and King Solomon became very close and when the Queen of Sheba returned to Ethiopia she had King Solomon's baby. Menelik I may have been King Solomon's son. Some believe that when Menelik I when to visit his father, King Solomon, Menelik returned to Ethiopia with the Ark of the Covenant. Some believe that the ark is hidden away in some Ethiopian monastery, still today. There is still a lot of Ethiopia's history left for you to learn about by reading this book.

A compact history
Sometimes we want to take a historical subject that we know little about and get a brief gloss to learn enough to discover which parts of the subject we want to delve into at greater length. "History of Ethiopia" is exactly what we need to satisfy that desire. We get the entire history of the African nation, from the very ancient days up to this very year, 2022. naturally, we do not get many nuances. What we do get is the big picture. We know how the various periods in history fit together. From the Queen of Sheba to the nasty era of the Communist Derg, we get a little bit of everything. One irritation that I had was the coverage of the Ethiopian-Somalia war in the 1970s. The crucial role played by the Cuban army is committed entirely. On the other hand, the 1540 Portuguese expedition headed by Christopher da Gama is briefly but adequately covered. Save for the intervention of da Gama the kingdom might well have been lost.If you need a fast introduction to Ethiopia, this is a good place to begin. Captivating History, the maker, has dozens of similar books, often on specific, narrowly focuses topics.

History of Ethiopia
Ethiopia is an essential nation-state in Africa. It has a great civilization and history. The reign of Johannes IV was crucial to the Kingdom of Ethiopia. Moreover, Haile Selassie was another vital emperor. Ethiopia suffered under communism. Currently, Ethiopia faces foreign challenges from its neighbors and political corruption domestically. Specifically, political unrest dominates the domestic life of Ethiopia. The author presents and discusses the achievements and challenges of the Ethiopian people from Ancient Times to Modern Times. It is a well-written book.

The exciting history of Ethiopia
I was fascinated with his book of the history of Ethiopia. I was fascinated also by the Legends which were put forth that the Axum Kingdom had its founding with the the Queen of Sheba and the son of Solomon. They claim that a son or descendant of this dynasty has been emperor of Ethiopia down to the 20th century. Ethiopia has been a major world power and has been on par with many of the Great powers of its time through the ages. During the time when most of Africa was becoming Muslim Ethiopia was the only Christian stronghold in Africa. Christianity in Ethiopia was more aligned with the Orthodox Christianity than it was the Catholic Christianity in Western Europe. The Ethiopians were able to defend against Invaders because the emperors were able to centralize the government of Ethiopia with Forward thinking and also to gain the technology to build weapons in Ethiopia. Many outside Nations tried to move in and take over Ethiopia but Ethiopia was able to keep its independence until Mussolini moved in in the 1930s. The strong national Spirit of Ethiopia is a great story to inspire the rest of the world. This book has been well researched its the narrative is pleasing and informative. I learned many things that answered questions that I had had while I was teaching world history. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in learning about African cultures and the civilizations of Africa. This is a great book for the armchair historian to add to his library. With the many maps and illustrations in the book it makes you see the history of Ethiopia clearly. I am impressed with the illustrations that have been added.

Informative, compact history of rulers, religion and struggles.
This book is well written. It filled out my knowledge of Ethiopia, which was mostly that it was isolated from neighbors and most empires. I had heard of biblical contacts, two Italian invasions, civil wars and famines. In this book I learned of contacts with ancient Rome, Byzantium, the Ottomans, and Arabs. Trade carried on the silk road, and by sea. There was influence of Judaism, Islam and competing Christian sects. The sequence of leaders were covered as well as how they came to power. Many conflicts are covered, insurrections and invasions. The Haile Selassie period is covered, as well as his downfall. Then the military period is covered, with communism and factionalism. Finally the recent period is covered,up to the present civil wars of 2022.I would recommend this compact book, for anyone planning a visit, or wanting background knowledge.
