If you’ve ever wanted a Katana, buy this now!
It is insane they are selling this for as cheap as they are. As a collector I always want to try “budget” blades to see what’s out there. This blade is no budget blade. Beautifully crafted grip to tip. It has good ergonomics and the wrapping on the handle is very pleasant. Balance is around where you would want it to be for this style of sword. Weight is very manageable and the balance offers support while swinging the weight around. WARNING: not a toy, replica, or display item. This thing is sharp!!!! Will not bend or break under normal circumstances. For all the Amazon blade trolls saying “it chipped/bent/broke when I hit a giant rock” I can only say one thing: stop hitting rocks. Other than being reckless I do not see this having quality issues with normal use. Good starter for getting into Iiado or any other cutting sport. DO NOT sharpen yourself. The edge has been forged in, not machined or ground in after the mirror finish was achieved(see blade pic, I know it’s blurry but you can see there is no grinding on the blade). That being said, this needs to be worked on by a professional or someone with access and knowledge of the professional process. Now that I have mentioned that I can honestly say the blade came out of the box extremely sharp. Passed the paper test with flying colors. When running it through paper slowly I noticed no drag points so it would appear the blade is as close to uniform as a handmade item can be. Whoever forged this deserves a raise. As for the other metal pieces they appear to be machined but whoever finished them did a good job. All pieces of this item are as snug as can be, and barring hours and hours of actual use I do not see any part of this becoming loose. All in all 5 stars does not do this company justice. You can tell they take pride in their work and they want to deliver nothing but quality. Items do have limited customization in terms of the pieces added to the blade. From what I understand you can mix and match if you send an email to the company. In summary this is a fantastic product. Which is beautifully hand crafted and assembled with a razor sharp edge and wonderful assembly tolerances. I would take 5 of these over a 1k blade any day. Will it best an authentic 5k-20k+ blade, probably not; but for someone just getting into the hobby of collecting or competition it is an out of this world deal. I am so glad I found this company and will not hesitate to purchase through them again in the future. Great job ladies and gentlemen of this company, you have created an island of quality in a sea of disappointing Amazon blades. 10/10 stars

An impressive katana at an unbeatable price
I can't say enough about this katana. It arrived in super-secure packaging and was in flawless condition. The fit and finish far exceeded my expectations: the blade was very sharp, straight and had a mirror finish with no waves, scratches or sharpening marks. The tsuba and other fittings were beautiful and tightly locked in place. The saya (scabbard) was finished and outfitted with precision. Everything was exactly as pictured on the Amazon web page. On top of this, the sword is fully functional as well as an impressive display piece. I will definitely buy from Murasame again. How they can deliver a sword like this for the cost of a large kitchen knife is a wonder. This is one of the best products I've ever purchased on Amazon. If you want a replica katana and don't have $4,000 to spend, this is your ticket. Highly recommended.

Genuine sword for a great price!
I bought this sword mostly for self defense, quality, and to pass it on to my son. Hopefully it never will see action. I was looking for a quality sword that didn't hurt my pocket too much. At $165.00, this sword did not disappoint at all, and I highly recommend this sword. This sword looks and feels like a much more expensive sword, because the quality is truly of a more expensive sword. It is a full tang sword with a genuine hamon across the blade, and all the traditional wrappings on the handle. The handles are held together by wooden dowels, which is correct. The blade has been hardened, and it is very clear that the blade was given 100% attention. I would not dare to use this sword for practice, as I do not want to damage it. But, I did a simple paper cut test, and the blade is razor sharp! It cut paper effortlessly. It is not on the level of cutting silk as it flies in the air, but this is definitely sharp enough, and it impressed me. Handling this sword kept me very aware that I was holding a true weapon. My grade for the blade: A+ (Blade was flawless, made very well, great balance, sharp, and has a genuine hamon. The Yakiba, the hard part of the blade is just wide enough to have an efficient cutting edge, and has great coverage throughout the entire length of the blade. The blade is not polished to a mirror, but that was expected. For this reason, this genuine full tang blade gets a perfect score.) My grade for the handle itself: A+ (Genuine high quality ray skin, and is so high quality that I initially mistook it to be a high quality faux ray skin. I thought "this is too good to be real". To ensure the accuracy of my review, I decided to take a chance and I did the red-hot needle test to poke the ray scales, and the ray skin did not at all react. It was firm and hard, as genuine ray skin should be.) The lacing on the handle is tight & well done. Nice Menuki ornament that was tightly held in place by the wrapping as it should be.) My grade for the Tsuba/Guard: A- (Has nice details, good quality, but the edge all around the guard has some light sign of machining and is not as finished as it could be. If you took super fine sand paper to it, you can smooth off the grind marks, and it'll be amazing. Expect to spend a couple of minutes doing this if you are fussy.) My grade for the Habaki/Ferrule: B+ (Solid, but could tell it was somewhat hastily sanded, as all sides are not 100% equal. Quick shaping work from a mass production scenario. If the workers slowed down a little bit and took more care, it would be A+ Honestly, this is not a big mark against the sword. Just nitpicking here.) I suppose you could take the Habaki off and sand it off so it's equal then polish it and put it back on if you're bent on absolute perfection. My grade for the Kashira/Pommel: A+ (I was pleased to see the nice detail of the handle cap. It is tied very tightly against the butt of the handle, as it should be. In a situation of an emergency, I would be confident to use the Kashira as a head butting weapon.) My grade for the Saya/scabbard: B- (Solid, wooden, nice laces. But, the mouth of the saya was not 100% finished. No brass protection. If you looked down the hole, you could see glue and imperfections. On the surface, there was one small area where the veneer was somewhat rough from a knot in the veneer sticking out somewhat. I was a little bit disappointed that they overlooked this. This is the biggest mark against this set. But, personally, I bought the set mostly for the sword itself. My grade for the weight, feel and handling: B+ (I am a big man and am stronger than most men. This sword feels just perfect for me, but might be slightly on the heavy side for a small person. The balance is there, and very close to a $1,000 Samurai sword. I am honestly impressed.) It is my observation of the particular sword that I received-- All the parts were made of good quality material. The blade itself really is what is the most impressive thing about this entire sword/scabbard combo. It is my gut instinct that the person that makes the blade is a skilled metallurgist, but the person that shaped the ferrule was unskilled labor, and probably shaped as many as 10 ferrules per minute or something like that, on an assembly line. And that's why the ferrule isn't as perfect as it could be. The sword was assembled by somebody that has good skill. The ferrule is my only true complaint about the whole sword. Overall grade for the sword for the price: A+ (If it was priced at $300, I still would give it A+. It will drop to A- once the price reaches $500.) Based on Amazon Shipping Quote, the shipping was quoted to take 4-5 weeks, a quote which disappointed me initially. But, they surprised me and I got it within 3 weeks! Fast shipping direct from China! Thank you!!!

Very high quality
While I eventually plan to buy a authentic antique Japanese sword I realize that is going to cost in the thousands. This sword is incredible, the polish, workmanship and detail and overall feel is well worth the money and while doing lots of research, reading and comparisons I felt this brand was worth trying. I would gladly pay twice or more than what this cost and still feel it's worth every bit. I am completely impressed and while I have nothing to compare it to and I don't know what a true authentic handmade Japanese blade would be like I can say this blade is fully what I expect a high quality, razor sharp, beautifully polished and further more it feels great. It is balanced and agile and everything fits tight and does not feel or look like an assembly line mass produced imitation...I feel 100% this is as close as you can get to a modern high quality rendition of what anyone would want from a Japanese style sword. If this review helps anybody worried about quality then let this help you make the decision that there is no way to go wrong with this brand and there will be no way to regret this because I'm going to say this is almost perfect is the best way I can describe it. I'm glad I bought it, I'd definitely buy again without a 2nd thought and there's warnings and negative advise about buying these type of swords in the sub $700 range but let me say if this sword had a 700+ price tag then it would be totally worth it!

Excellent Katana!
I ordered the Katana on May 4 - the projected delivery date was June 4 to the 24th. I got a pleasant surprise when it was delivered at my door on May 21. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The first thing I noticed was that the Sageo is thick, wide and tightly woven, making it the perfect Sageo for the presentation knot. The Tsuka's Ito is very tight, I could barely move it when applying force - excellent! The size of the diamond pattern is symmetrical from the Kashira to the Fuchi - well done! The Same nodules are uniform, but not large. I know that the large nodules are usually preferred, but it's not a big issue for me, not on a $169.00 katana. The Tsuka feels good in my hands, and the tight wrap gives me a sure grip. The very nice Oda Nobunaga Mon on the Hibachi adds an upscale look to the usual plain ones on Katanas of this price. The Bo-Hi is perfectly smooth with no ripples or marks. The blade is well polished and sharp, it passes the paper slicing test with ease. The Hamon is real and absolutely beautiful, kudos to the man who applied the clay and forged it. This whole blade is flawless! The burl-wood pattern on the Saya gives it a classy natural look, but the Saya appears to be "one size fits all," even though there is no blade rattle when shaken, it's sloppy when reinserting the blade and will hang up if not inserted just right, it's also not tight and the sword will fall out of the Saya when the Kashira is facing downward, so I need to do some adjustment to fix the problem. The Koiguchi is reinforced and the opening is clean and flat. The Tsuba, Fuchi and Kashira have a Dragon in the waves pattern and all have nice raised details. The Kurigata and Shito-Dome are also well done. Usually in lower cost Katanas this is the part that will show imperfections, but non exist here. Overall, I'm impressed with how well this Murasame Katana is made and assembled. For anyone who has been looking at this Katana for purchase and wondered about the quality, don't hesitate, the quality is there, and as far as I'm concerned, it's an exceptional value!!!

EXTREMELY NICE KATANA FOR THE MONEY!
The first thing I noticed when it arrived was how well it was packaged. It was very secure. Removing it from its silk wrapping, I was immediately impressed. It looked great, and felt very solid. It felt substantial as well, but not overly heavy. There is a lot of attention to detail in this blade, and it is scary sharp. Everything is tight as can be, and the grip feels awesome in the hand. I know enough about blades in general to know when I see something nice, and for the money, this is an amazing Katana. I would happily purchase it again. In fact, I like it so much that I bought their Wakizashi as well. To me, the value of an item is the sum of it's quality, features, and price. Using this formula, I can say that I am extremely pleased with both swords, and if you are looking for something in this price range, Murasame is the way to go.

What a really nicely crafted sword!
I had been wanting another of these Maurasame variations for quite a while. I have four Maurasame swords, 2 katanas, one wakizashi, and one Tachi. I am very pleased with all of them except for the one with a bit of an ax-handle grip, and it’s not that bad. 3 of them have leather grips which I especially like. Nice leather and very comfortable. The blades on all are excellent and come very sharp. Now, the one I just received has black leather Ito with REAL white Same’, beautiful and tight. The natural wood Saya is very nice and free of blade rattle. It tapers gracefully to the bottom tip. The Black and white Sageo compliment the sword in a very appealing manner. The value you receive from Maurasame is always pleasing to the eye as well as the pocketbook. I can’t say enough good things about them. They are known for their quality and craftsmanship. Try one. I’ll bet you’ll really love it! PS: Enlarge the pics for a good view.

Buen producto

Worth the wait!
I have 13 Katanas of various price points, including several 3-4 times more expensive, but they all pale in comparison. The attention to detail, quality of craftsmanship and striking beauty of this sword/sheath is beyond what was expected. I can honestly say if I could only pick one katana to keep out of my collection, this would be it. While the craftsmanship is obvious, the English tag has to be the comedic icing on the cake, as it reads....Do not use it for children and do not conduct violent tests... Haha! A+ to the sword smith.
