Simple and Light
Simple and light. Didn't react badly to this so I consider it a win (sensitive, dry, eczema-prone skin).

Leaves skin soft.

Didn't do much
It doesn't seem to do much in terms of helping my skin barrier. It is thicker and did clog my pores. Not great for sensitive skin.

Nice, light moisturizer
When I first tried this serum, I wasn't sure I liked it...but it has grown on me. The serum is well-described as being milky. It's thin and white...so much so that I found it hard to believe it could be much of a moisturizer. And when I put it on my face, I noticed it had a bit of a tack/stickiness to it. It wasn't overwhelming like glue, but if I put my hands to my face, I noticed that tacky feeling. Again, these were not things I was used to in a moisturizer. The moisturizer is fairly quickly absorbed; however, and that tackiness goes away within a minute or so. What you're left with is a nice smooth feeling. I don’t know that my face feels overly moisturized, but it feels healthy. I also tested it on one of my elbows (which has just a bit of eczema), and I believe the eczema has improved beyond what it was looking like with shea butter applications alone. My wife has been using this serum as well, and she would give it 3 or 4 stars...while my opinion is 4 or 5. Four stars then seems fair. I love that this serum has its origins in Korea, as I trust their beauty standards. And admittedly I would say my feeling that the serum was a bit unusual was tempered by the product's origins. Again, I trust their beauty standards and somewhat assume I'm filling a hole I didn't know was there. A couple weeks in, I'm not yet completely convinced that I will make this or a similar product a standard in my skin care regimen. I nevertheless love the idea of rotating products/varying what you apply to your skin (to again cover any holes the products you've been using may be missing), so I'm very glad I tried it. If I notice any outstanding results (one way or another), I will provide an update.

Soothing & Skin Feels Less Sensitive, Hydrates & Improves Skin Texture, Free Of Fragrance/Alcohol
Skin & Lab Barrierderm Milky Serum Milk Ceramide Complex is a milky serum free of fragrance and alcohol that comes in an easy to use dropper bottle. Ceramides can make skin healthier by strengthening the skin barrier, preventing moisture loss and protecting against environmental damage. Also, ceramides work better combined with certain types of ingredients that are contained in this serum, such as cholesterol, glycerin, squalane (rich in fatty acids) and more. This serum feels wonderful on my dry, sensitive and mature (55+) skin that needs a lot of hydration and is aggravated easily by chemicals fragrance, natural fragrancing essential oils and extracts, drying alcohol, aggressive products, the environment and so on. I’ve been using this ceramide serum after cleansing and follow with my face cream, but it also layers well with my favorite staples, such as a Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid serum (followed by my moisturizer). I like that this ceramide serum doesn’t appear to have any harsh ingredients, and it feels soothing and gentle to my skin. I’ve used it about a week so far and it adds noticeable hydration that isn't heavy, greasy or sticky, and my normally sensitive skin is calm and comfortable. Also, my skin texture feels soft and seems more elastic. I can’t judge the full benefits yet as that can take many weeks or months, but I’m pleased so far and will keep using this serum. Love it. 5 stars.

fragrance free, absorbs quickly, contains squalane and ceramides, made in Korea
This SKIN&LAB Barrierderm Milky Serum comes in a frosted colorless bottle and the serum itself is a milky white color. The texture is on the more watery side for a serum. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a sticky residue. The eyedropper dispenser works well. It's fragrance free, which is great for those with sensitive skin. The ingredients contain squalane for moisture retention and ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier. It's made in Korea. The bottom of both the bottle and the outer box are clearly marked with the expiration date, and the full ingredients are printed in both English and Korean on the box, but not the bottle. The ingredients are: Water, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Betaine, Dipentaerythrityl Hexa C5-9 Acid Esters, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Pentylene Glycol, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Milk Protein Extract(100PPM), Glucose, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fructooligosaccharides, Fructose, Tromethamine, Diphenyl Dimethicone, Panthenol, Triethylhexanoin, Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Serine, Arginine, Glycine, Histidine, Lecithin, Caprylyl Glycol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Tocopherol, Stearic Acid, Ceramide AP, Ceramide AS, Ceramide EOP, Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Xanthan Gum, Cetearyl Alcohol

Thick, milky serum that's gentle and fragrance-free.
• Would I get it again or recommend it and why: -Yes, it's a nice, well formulated, thick milky serum with good ingredients. -It's fragrance-free, gentle and is well formulated and well presented. -Note that the ingredients on the listing are different than the ingredients on the carton. • Brand, style and version: -Brand: Skin & Lab -Version: Barrierderm Milky Serum • Size: -Oz: 1.69 oz -Ml: 50 ml • Quality and Value: -The value is mid-ranged for the size and formula. • Container: -It's in an opaque non see-through container to protect the ingredients from light degradation. -It's a standard dropper top bottle that twists off to use and drop onto the skin. -Please do not place the dropper stem on your face, skin or palm or you will introduce bacteria into the formula. • Formula: -It's fairly thick for a serum. It's almost too thick for a dropper. -It's very milky, creamy more like a mix of a thin lotion and a thick liquid. • Scent: -No added perfumes, fragrances, essential oils or fragrant plant extracts. -I could not detect much natural scent to it and would consider it safe for those sensitive to scents. • Application and Use: -It comes in a dropper dispenser. Again, please do not touch the dropper or it's stem to your face or skin, or you will introduce bacteria into the formula. -You'll only need a few drops (3-5) for your whole face. -Likely this will be part of your skincare layering routine, and the liquid or serum part under a heavier cream. For those with normal skin, this may be heavy enough by itself without adding another cream over it. -It's moderately moisturizing and feels more like you've used a lotion moisturizer vs serum after using it. -It feels good, gentle and soothing on the skin. -It does have a slightly, but only slightly, sticky-tacky feeling on the skin. You probably could still use it under makeup, but some may find it a little heavy for use under makeup. -This is not a serumy or liquid serum, it's really more of a thinned out, slightly liquefied moisturizer feel to it. If you're expecting a normal serum texture, this is quite different. • Sensitive skin: -I would consider this sensitive skin friendly. -I had no issues on my sensitive skin with burning, stinging, itching, redness or irritation during or delayed after use. • Skin Types: -Normal -Dry -Sensitive -This has a moderate moisture level. -For those with oily skin, it might be a little heavy for them. It likely would be okay for the under-eye areas for those with oily skin. But some with oily skin may want a lighter serum. • Skin issues and concerns it addresses: -Anti-aging -Dryness • Body Areas: -Face • Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Betaine, Dipentaerythrityl Hexa C5-9 Acid Esters, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Pentylene Glycol, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Glucose, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fructooligosaccharides, Fructose, Tromethamine, Diphenyl Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Panthenol, Triethylhexanoin, Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Milk Protein Extract, Serine, Glycine, Lecithin, Arginine, Histidine, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopherol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Ceramide AP, Ceramide AS, Ceramide EOP. • Standout Ingredients: -Squalane -Ceramides • Ingredients checked on both Paula Begoun's and Incidecoder's skincare ingredient encyclopedias: -I checked the ingredients listed in both encyclopedias and found no problematic ingredients. There were no common allergens, fragrances, essential oils or irritating alcohols. The ingredients were listed as generally favorable and good for the skin. • Major Ingredients by function: -Anti-acne: Phytosphingosine -Antioxidant: Tocopherol -Cell-communicating ingredient: Phytosphingosine -Skin-identical ingredient: Squalane, Glycerin, Serine, Glycine, Arginine, Histidine, Ceramide NP, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP -Soothing: Panthenol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate -Emollient: Squalane, Glycereth-26, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Diphenyl Dimethicone, Triethylhexanoin, Lecithin, Caprylyl Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Cholesterol -Moisturizer/humectant: Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Glucose, Fructooligosaccharides, Fructose, Panthenol, Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine, Histidine, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Caprylyl Glycol • Allergens: -No gluten, wheat or common allergens are listed on the container or ingredients listing. -There is an algae extract in it. -There is a milk protein in it, it may not be safe for you if you are a vegan. • Pros: -It's in an opaque non see-through container to protect the ingredients from light degradation. -The value and price is mid-ranged for the formula and the size. -No common allergens, gluten or wheat listed on the label. (It does have an algae extract in it.) -No common irritants such as irritating alcohols, essential oils or irritating plant extracts. -Fragrance-free with no added perfumes, fragrances, essential oils or fragrant plant oils. Safe for those sensitive to scents. -Gentle, non irritating. -Dye free -Very good ingredient listing. -Moderate moisturizing level. • Cons: -The ingredients were not printed on the container but were on the outer carton. I had to clip them off and attach them to the container with a clear hair elastic. • Tips and Thoughts: -I can't emphasize it enough, please don't touch the dropper to your face or hand to apply it. Don't let it touch your skin, just let the drops fall into the palm of your hand without touching your hand. If you let it touch your skin or hands, you will introduce bacteria into the bottle and formulation. • Impression: -This is a unique, well-formulated moderately moisturizing serum. It doesn't have a normal serum texture, but a slightly liquid moisturizer texture and feel. -It's gentle, fragrance-free, dye free and has a good feel on the skin and a little goes a long way. -It's a mid-ranged price for the formula and size, and performs well.
