Q: How far up the lamp is the switch located? I want to put this behind a chair that's in a corner but want to be able to get to the switch easily.

The switch is just below the curve. My lamp is in a corner with a high back chair, the switch is not easy to use in this corner position. If you can put lamp on side of chair(I have no room), the switch should not be a problem.

Q: What is the diameter of the pole?

Strange question, but no judgement here. I used my handy-dandy Lyman calipers, and here is what I got (all measurements approximate): Solid pole that comes up from the base = 16 mm / 0.6” Switch section (it bulges out slightly in the switch area) = 25 mm / 1” Top flexible conduit = 12 mm / 0.48” FYI: It seems very sturdy, and the base is reasonably heavy and wide. No issue with tip over. It is the perfect height for reading in bed. It might be too short to arch over the back of an upright stuffed living room chair for reading. You’d need to put it next to the chair to illuminate a book in your lap. Hope that makes sense?

At the lowest bending point the lamp is approximately 3'11".
