can you put the coal and powder on the inside of the bowl?

yes! But What do you mean on the inside of the bowl? Okay so what you do is you light the coal and you set it inside the bowl and then you put the resin in the coal to burn and as it burns down you take your tongues and you trim the coal down and put More resin on if needed

Not sure what you mean by simmer. It’s designed to place the incense directly on the charcoal - and it will smoke.

can you burn resin directly on the tray without the charcoal? Will a small tealight candle fit underneath the tray tray to burn the resin?

Honestly, I think it works better with the charcoal. The resin has to get hot enough to melt, and I don’t think that the tealight will provide enough heat. I used to put the resin in a small metal tealight cup and burn it on my electric stove. I think the charcoal is a better choice. Many people use it all of the time and that is how many censers in churches are used. Good luck!

Great incense burner

It looks attractive on my table. I use a charcoal disc then add incense once it is hot enough. The incense aroma fills the house. Very pleased with it.

No space for a regular charcoal disc under the removable plate, almost useless. Not recommended.
