Pretty good but could be better
I found this book to be a pretty good read. It starts off pretty well and the authors sound like they are sitting in their chairs talking to the readers about their experiences. There are a lot of colorful metaphors and war stories. But the book is only about 125 pages long and they could have written more. What missing is why some people can do well in corrections or why they failed. The book doesn't address how many roles a correctional officer must play to be an effective officer. None that is address and that is regretful because to really appreciate what it takes to be a good officer and why correctional officers should be respected, reader should know what skill set are needed and many of these skills, are not trainable. You either got it....or you don't. Not everyone can do this job right or do it at all. The book is a nice reading material but it could have gone deeper, and it did not. And those two guys appear to be very experienced officers so they could have gone deeper if they wanted.

Grammatical Errors and Typos
I wanted to read it. I wanted to like it. I'm a fellow officer, for heaven's sake. Sadly, I also can't bear bad writing. Even the title has a mistake "Through The Officers Eyes" should have the possessive apostrophe and inside it says "About the Author's." The Author's what? They mean, "About the Authors." And I haven't even got to page three of the book before I started circling corrections with my red pen while sitting in jail. I gave up a few pages later. Sorry.

Worst editing Iโve seen, makes it difficult to enjoy
The relaxed style of writing is what I would expect from career COs. Cool, no problem there. But the enormous amount of grammatical, diction, and other mistakes it hard to enjoy for me (i.e. manor vs. manner, their/there/theyโre, and other aggravating things). A good editor could have developed this book into something a little more special. Still not a bad primer for those that want to see the โinsideโ look at the profession.

Life As a Jailer
I received this book the other day. I had the pleasure of working with these two men back in the day. Everything written in this book is very true as to our lives working in the jail. It is a must read if your are thinking of going in to this profession. They pull no punches and no sugar coating. This was our life back then and today. We have had people come in for a tour of the jail and walk right out that day. Those are the smart ones. This job is not for everyone. This is a best seller and it is one of the most accurate book to read for the truth of a jailer. The bond we have is like no other and that is what we had. I am retired now and I am glad that Capt. Joe Defranco and K-9 Officer Tom Duncan decided to write this book to let everyone know what it is like to work in a jail. May God Bless both of them and every other Correction Officer who has worked or is still working today. They will always be my Brothers and Sisters for life. Betty Verrelli

This is a good book for anyone who is not aware of what ...
I was a federal correctional officer for 3 years and worked in the county jail for 19 years. This is a good book for anyone who is not aware of what goes on inside these places. However, this book only reflects the "tip of the iceberg"!!! It is actually much worse than this book portrays and mostly because of the "friends and family" program of promotions and selections for special assignment.

A must read for law enforcement
This book should be read by anyone thinking about going into corrections or anyone who has a family member in the field. I have been in corrections for 25 years and could relate to every detail in the book. The authors did not miss a beat! It touches on everything from new recruits, veteran officers, administration and the way inmates treat staff. The authors truly said it all when they say that corrections can be a thankless job but anyone in the field knows the family we have behind those bars.

Worst written book I have ever set my eyes on
I am quite sure this book has never been edited. I found countless spelling mistakes and very poor grammar. I was truly disappointed. I'm glad I bought the Kindle edition but even that was too much money spent on my part! I would be embarrassed to say I was the Author. I could only read a few chapters until I could take no more! Please save your money on this one folks.

My view!!
Enjoyed book from cover to cover, was a correction officer for 35 year. When bleeding hearts came into the picture the system, the respect for officers and victims went to pot.

It is alright
It is written all over the place,, Hard to keep track of what is what,, almost like disgruntled employees.

Poorly written
Brutal. Grammar and spelling makes correctional officers look like illiterate fools. If you look past that though the stories are ok. Im in my 18 th year as a correctional officer.
