No, they are not smart vinyl. They require the cutting mat. Only the maker 3 can use smart vinyl.

Does cricut permanent vinyl have a odor like oracal 651?

I have bought lots of types of Cricut vinyls, and also have Oracal 651. Honestly, I don’t remember a strong smell to either, so perhaps you are picking up the smell of adhesive. My advice, after you buy it take off the plastic wrap and set it somewhere for it to lose the smell you are detecting. I don’t know if it will work since I’ve never noticed it, either, but maybe. You have a gifted nose! I have a gift for detecting colors and am bothered by two of the same things of the “same color” with different dye lots. Sometimes it’s a gift; sometimes it’s a curse! Ha! Ha!
