Bada$$ knife for the price
This thing is great for it's intended purpose: extreme cutting performance in an emergency or rescue scenario, on a budget. I bought it to keep in my truck or take on a trip where I think it could be useful. I don't plan to use it as an EDC knife. For the price I'm ok with it potentially being lost, damaged, or unrecoverable due to use in an emergency situation. The serrades are well done and very sharp. I also noticed they open mail with authority, for whatever that's worth. This thing definitely cuts through material with comparatively little effort to a plain edge or even a combo edge. The blade is longer too which also helps. It feels well made actually, and it functions as good as any regular spyderco lock back knife. Its definitely not of the refined paramilitary quality but it approaches the Delica or Endura level of quality and function......with a few obvious exceptions. The handle scales have some mold marks just to the inside of both handles where the knife rests closed, they're ugly but don't hinder performance or feel in any way. The blade steel won't hold its edge under a lot of use, but I don't plan to use it very much-it just needs to come through for me in an emergency. It does have recessed metal liners in the handles which is a nice touch. The knife is fairly lightweight for its size too. It feels good in the hand, balance seems good, and overall fit and finish is just fine for this price range. I would reccomend this knife, and it'd be a good gift for someone who could appreciate it or actually use it.

Good work knife for cutting rope
Great knife for work. I use it to cut 2 inch thick rope. Still sharp after a year or so from now. Not much use, but its a life saver with the serated teeth. More convenient than carrying a steak knife or a hack saw.

Fantastic for opening Amazon boxes.
There are some situations where serrations are way better than plane edges. The knives I consider least useful are those that are half serrations and half plain edge. If you try to do anything ordinary like cutting cheese or other food you need to clean the food out of all the serrations. These days one of the main things I do with a EDC is opening Amazon boxes and packages. I got the Spiderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 Rescue Knife partly for its potential use in an emergency but mostly for opening boxes and other chores where serrations are best, and having a dedicated serrated blade would save the use and need to sharpen my plain-edged EDC. WOW! First, the Byrd 2 Rescue opens the heaviest boxes like I am just moving my hand through air. Second, the comet-shaped hole in the blade is way better for opening the knife than the standard Syderco circular holes. You get a much better contact and purchase on the blade with the side of your thumb. Third, the edge of the blade is just under 4", which is important for me since my home county and nearly all Oregon jurisdictions allow concealed carry of a folder with a blade under 4". However, the Byrd has about half an inch of the blade near the base with no serrations, the area you usually avoid using so you don't get junk in the locking mechanism. So you get nearly 4 inches of usable blade instead of the 3 1/2 inches of useable blade you usually get on a four inch folder. Knife was every easy to open. It was harder to close than most Syderco knives, but became much easier with use. I was unfamiliar with knives with no point and was surprised by how much easier this made it to open packaging with soft things like garments underneath. Scales on handle are abrasive. But that would be best in a medical emergency where the knife handle could be covered with with blood. You could hold on to this knife no matter what. The knife us very sturdy. I felt completely confident in using it to do the light prying needed when the flaps of boxes have been glued down. I don't know yet how the blade will resist rust. Amazing knife for the price.

Color is dark orange, as customer photos show. LUNATIC sharp serrations! Fantastic value!
So lightweight!!! Handle is perfectly shaped and grippy like you won't believe until you hold it. It's a dark orange, not a neon orange - but it's a scrumptious color just the same. Excellent pocket clip in all respects, hardly any hot spots and firm grip to the pocket but not too abrasive. Very solid lockup yet easy light deployment. CRAZY sharp. Don't hesitate - this is really the pocket chainsaw you hope it might be. I literally lack enough kudos for this thing - purchased it on a lark because Spyderco's own was outside of my comfort zone, price-wise. What a jaw-dropping bargain this is! It cuts better than you could possibly hope for. It's a nice easy steel to resharpen yet holds an edge far better than you might expect. Full serrations make this the single most capable blade you'll ever own for the size. The sheepfoot profile means you won't stab or cut what you don't mean to. The oddly shaped thumb hole grips the pad of your thumb better than Spyderco's ordinary circle can - I was very surprised how much of an improvement it turned out to be. You can't make a mistake buying this unless it's too big for your locale. Get it, use it, enjoy it! I literally can't believe what a great deal this Byrd is compared to anything else in the same price range. Want to do a little dance - that's how happy I am with this purchase!

She loved it
It would be 5 stars if I had a chance to see int work in the field, but it was purchased as a gift to an ER trauma nurse friend that was going to start doing Critical Transport, which would put her in an ambulance with paramedics and eventually flight nursing. I thought it was going to be to big, but she loved it. It came paper shaving sharp, which is rear in a serrated blade, my cut test on medium rope was like butter. The lock was very stiff at first, but after a week of working it regularly, it broke in fine. I would pick one up for myself, but it is really a tool what needs specific type of mission, it would be wasted on me.

Very sharp, good looking, great value!
This knife is a little larger than I expected, and has a very sharp serrated blade! I bought it to keep in the car "just in case" I ever need to cut myself or someone else out of a seatbelt! This blade should go through a seatbelt like butter. The value is incredible and it's well worth picking up imho. It even comes with a pocket clip. The backlock works well. One of the "best value" Spyderco knives I have found.

Best in the biz
While working as a deckhand on tugboats in the harbors of NYC, shipmates recommended this specific knife over all others. Cuts through think lines like butter. Served me well, it's clear why it's considered the industry standard.

How the mighty have fallen - QC way down in 2026
Formerly, my go-to webbing cutter, quality control appears to have gone out the window. Right out of the box, the blade locked open and couldn't be unlocked. I had to resort to voiding the warranty, in order to make it usable again. If this had happened in the field, I would have had to drop the knife down on the asphalt or toss it into a bag. For a rescue knife, a defective locking mechanism is not a minor cosmetic issue. It defeats the purpose of the tool. The edges of the back lock are sharp enough to slice right through nitrile gloves. For a knife intended for rescue use, this is a problem. Flipping the carry clip for tip-down carry revealed another QC issue. The underside of the clip was completely unfinished, and the rough surface had already dug into and damaged the Zytel handle (see photo). The screws are poor quality and prone to stripping even using Wiha T6s. Overall, disappointing. If you can find old stock, this is a great design, but even compared with other Chinese-made Spydercos like the Tenacious, you can find better knives at a big-box store.

Filo poderoso

Taglia come un rasoglio
Affilatissimo, eccellente!
