AMS Racing NON Active Fuel Management AFM DOD Kit for 2007-2013 Chevrolet GMC 5.3L Gen IV Truck/SUV Engines

I had issues in my 08 Tahoe with the 5.3, misfire on cylinder 7 to be exact. A shop said 99% a stuck lifter. They suggested this kit so I did it myself. I deliver boxes for a living but have 17 years of construction background and do all my mechanic work myself. I also went ahead and upgraded the oil pump. For starters it's a lot of work and by far the most in depth repair I've ever attempted. It took me about a month of a little time here and there. I suggest watching lots of YouTube and trying to figure out everything else you'll need in advance. I bought this, a tuner, and some miscellaneous tools I didn't already have. I'm in for about $1200 total vs 4k to 5k the shop told me. They said they typically just replace the engine. This kit send like very high quality parts and everything is packaged very well. The only complaint I have is nothing is labeled. Most of it is self explanatory but there could be some type of description on the small things, specifically o-rings. The only thing I wish I would have done differently is order from the company's website because they offer different cam setups, too late now. I got it all back together and had to replace the plugs a second time because apparently by engine doesn't like NGK plugs. After that is running great and no check engine light. Keep in mind you will have to tune it after installing this.

Everything worked good. Except the lower intake gaskets (intake to heads) were not the clip on style. Very hard to work with.

Kit had everything I needed to complete my AFM deletion. Not being a mechanic, I was unaware that I needed to tune my ECM afterwards due to the new non-afm cam shaft being installed which makes sense afterwards. Locally it cost an additional $300 due to buying license and an hour reprogramming the computer. When I had completed the mechanical side, I fired the engine and ran like a charm, but when I drove it, it had no power. I ended up having tuner turn off the AFM and tune to the new cam. Doing this brought life back into my truck. If you don't have an issue and want to turn off the AFM just buy the plug in OBD-II connector, but if you have a collapsed lifter and want to delete the afm altogether then buy this kit with new cam and expect to need to tune your ECM. We ended up replacing the oil pump, cam sprocket, crank sprocket, timing chain, timing chain dampener, and oil pan gasket which weren't included in kit (pick up tube seal was) but should be replaced since you are that deep into the engine removing the cam. We had to have the heads redone due to what we found while when tearing apart which was cylinder 6 valves not sealing (Cylinder 6 was the original issue). Kit includes valve stem seals. Highly recommended doing that as well since you already have it apart. The heads being rebuilt was an additional cost, locally it was 500 for both heads being rebuilt and compression tested. Altogether with additional parts, heads rebuilt, new fluids and tuned it was about $1600 and 30 hours worth of work, but again I would not say I am a mechanic but mechanically inclined. Local shop said they could do it for $2500, but didn't include heads being rebuilt and extra parts. So I was looking at $3000 plus. I hope this helps someone else who is trying to decide which route to go and how much it will cost. The work was completed on a 2008 Chevy Suburban 5.3L

It worked will did not come with the oil pick up tube gasket. But other than that worked great

The truck runs so much better after the delete. I took my time to make sure everything was cleaned and correctly torqued and used plenty of assembly lube. I did however decide to go with a standard oil pump rather than keeping the high volume. This is to keep the fuel economy and to prevent bearing and seal failure from unused extra pressure. I used a predator 2 tuner to delete the dod in the computer and added a mild 87 octane performance tune. Everything is butter smooth and better than new! Overall I enjoyed doing the work with my sons and AMS delivered with their product and will highly recommend it!!!

One roller lifter out of the pack found to be extremely miss machined due to quality attention, disrupted deadline over a week.

Kit was great. Valley plate has a shorter boss for oil pressure sensor to screw into so, the oil sensor screen does not fit and it does not come with its own screen. Had to modify original screen to fit valley pan to keep from getting engine light due to oil pressure sensor performance.

I like this product and everything fits. The only issue I hace with this great product ia lack of instructions, zero pushrods, and it did not come with valve cover bolts or bolt gromets. I will buy this kit again.

Seems to be working fine. 1500 miles since being installed.

Used this on my 2012 5.3 Silverado. This kit covers almost everything you need for the job. Sent ECM to AMS racing along with purchasing this kit. Truck runs great now. Only lost .3 MPG.

Had this kit installed after AFM trashed the engine... that was 10k miles ago and the upgrade is GREAT.... original engine drank and it started having oil pressure indication trouble... 10k and no drop in oil... sent the ECM to AMS to get AFM deleted... another plus... the cruise control limiter and fuel pumped cutout are now disabled... nice to be able to engage HUMP DRIVE...( I will update if conditions change )

it all fit but they are some changes they need to make like to center plate that goes under the intake needs to be with cellulitis of the check engine light will stay off

Purchased this for an engine rebuild. Started right up with no issues! Engine runs and sounds great! AFM will need to be tuned out. Used Diablo I3. Definitely recommend
