For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts: A Love Letter to Women of Color

Be ready to cry
Books are like food for the brain, but this one here...my heart needed this. I was most emotional during the colorism, voluntourism and toxic masculinity chapters. My mother is from Nicargua and this book has helped me open up conversations I never thought I'd have with her. I asked her about the "help" of the missionaries, I asked her about my dad and his ways that only seemed right to him, I even brought up the way she always talked negatively about her own skin tone. This book helps heal. Oh, I dont know how to thank Prisca for this..it was a beautiful book and I recommend every brown girl to add this to their collection (':

A must for first generation latinas in the U.S.
I am a social worker, and this book was recommended by a friend. The author is genuine, raw, and does not hold back. Even though my current life view is conservative, I really appreciate honesty and saying things as you feel it. I connected so much with the author, because I went through almost everything that she had to to endure, down to church pressure and expectations. I highly recommend this for first gen latinas, but also for anyone who wants to be able to understand how mainstream culture molds and pressures women of color to feel less than, how to talk, dress, etc. Loved the book, and I can't wait for the second book coming out!

Must Read!
This is the most genuine & raw material I’ve come across in a v long time. Prisca’s vulnerability and writing grips you from the start and it’s one of those books you can’t put down.I am several chapters in and I look forward to rushing home to continue reading. Her writing is so sincere and so inspiring yet I am learning about all the systems that work agains BIPOC through her story telling.I urge white readers to dive into this book because it is a powerful glimpse into the experiences of people of color. And what better way to be an ally than to have some understanding of experiences outside of whiteness. If you’re reading reviews to convince you to buy this book, read no further. Buy the book. And perhaps buy an extra copy to gift to your sister, friend, auntie, mama, etc. This is a life changing purchase.

I feel validated
Prisca’s book is so beautifully written. I am grateful I purchased a copy, it’s an amazing addition to my book collection. I feel so seen and so validated, she gives me words for experiences that I never knew how to explain or even begin explaining. She makes me feel empowered and proud of all I have accomplished as a BIPOC woman in America. I am also just as proud of Prisca for her journey and her ability to open her heart to so many through her words.Gracias.

Written Genuinely from the Soul and Heart
Genuine. Unapologetic. Truthful. Those are the words that come to my mind after reading Prisca's wonderfully written book/love letter to Brown girls like myself. I laughed, cried and felt understood like never before. There were many moments when I could relate 100% with Prisca, including when reading about the impact of intergenerational family trauma (as I am a mental health professional and the daughter of civil war survivors from El Salvador). Many times, we as Central Americans are left out of the Latinx narrative in the U.S. (even though U.S. interventions keep our people in crisis), so it was inspiring to know that Prisca is paving the road so that other Central American girls and women in the U.S. are seen and heard. Prisca- thank you for a heartfelt and much needed love letter to those like us, who have had to fight tooth and nail (including in higher education settings and workplaces), our entire lives just because we are Brown girls in an exploitative, racist and patriarchal system. Your book will inspire many to know their worth and speak up, even when others would prefer that we stay silent. Hope this is one of many books addressing the inequality faced by many Latinas. Wishing you all the best, and may I have the privilege to meet you one day.
