Suunto Core Outdoor Sport Watch with Altimeter, Barometer and Compass

Superb watch, really comfortable and easy to set up. Good features, for example...compass, altimeter, and a good alarm. Excellent value for money. Recommended.

I have dress watches and I always wanted an adventurers watch for day to day use This is the best watch in my collection for sure being a perfect product from the get go and it’s so nice in every other way - I just want to keep wearing it every day it looks so nice and all of its functions are very useful especially today on the screen popped up storm alert and an arrow showing me the direction of the storm coming from North West - it has lots of comprehensive functions so you can be fully informed of all environmental conditions and their changes within seconds - A 10/10 product with ease and a great price and a swift delivery - beat that !!!

Got this for my partner and he wears it every single day. Been wearing it for a couple years now and it’s absolutely indestructible! Amazing quality, looks fabulous, is comfortable and amazing price too.

Initial impression is a well-built product that should last. As per other reviews, screen may appear dim when unlit indoors, but not a problem outdoors. Compass hit-and-miss. Has been helpful when out hiking. Sometimes more accurate than an old-style compass, but a couple of times has been wildly out. Needs to be held exactly level when reading, which is hard to do / estimate when worn on wrist. Can be sensitive to electromagnetic interference / metal structures. Needs to be recalibrated often using alternative method not mentioned in any of the manuals (google 'Suunto Core Sleep Mode' for more info). Altimeter is barometric and therefore needs to be regularly updated, as opposed to a GPS one. In the aviation industry, altimeter pressure settings (QNH) are updated multiple times a day for accurate readings, as should this one be. Advise downloading Aeroweather app or Windy and looking at the nearest airport's QNH for most accurate value, then enter via the alti-baro>reference>sea level menu. Can also be updated using a known elevation as well. Thermometer is totally useless. Your guess will be far closer to reality. I've just been out walking in subzero temperatures, snow and thick ice all around, and the Suunto Core was telling me it was +19ºC, see photo. Suspect it's reading my skin rather than the ambient temp. Overall, a slight disappointment, mainly in terms of the compass reliability, especially given that it is from a company that specialises in compasses, and a Finnish company at that. Not sure if I'd be confident navigating purely using this. Not sure whether to keep it, as it looks nice, but not sure if I can trust it. Design needs improving, please.

Excellent versatile, and simple device. Very good for anyone who like sports and the outdoors.

This watch had very poor design quality compared to G-Shock watches I am used to. The screen was unreadable so I ended up returning this watch altogether. I have seen it used by quite a few people though so maybe it's just my perception of the screen but the user logic for the interface is also very poor in my view and doesn't display what I really want to see. I used to own Suunto so was having big hopes for that watch.

Very cool watch. Brought this as a Christmas present for my brother and he loves it. He saw it in the the Denzel Equalizer films and liked the look of it. This is identical to the one Denzel wears. However, the stopwatch display does differ to the one in the films, not as big. It's comfy and not too heavy, and so far seems durable enough. It's a well made timepiece and keeps time accurately, has loads of functions to boot for the adventurous types out there or for people that like gadgets such as altimeter, barometer, thermometer and compass. It's good value for money for a watch of this kind.

Having been the owner of very few watches over the years due to rock solid performance, I decided to push the boat out and see what advancements digital watches had made - I have always had analogue in the past. What a minefield. So many to chose from from the cheap and cheerful to the downright expensive - to me a watch, is a watch, is a watch. Update 2017 The watch has performed flawlessly over the years and I wouldn't be without it. However, I now find myself having to replace my strap for a forth time. Whilst I am happy to replace the battery, a very easy job, having to replace the strap every 16 months or so is beyond being acceptable. I don't wear the watch tightly and although I wear it 24/7, I regularly clean the strap using plain water. Every time the strap has broken in exactly the same spot each time and at £27 or so a pop, it makes for a very expensive replacement. I suspect that there must be a material fault. I have contacted the manufacturer on one occasion and, to be fair, they did send me a replacement ... about 15 months ago ... and now that's failed too. I seem to think that I have now replaced more straps than I have batteries or at least an equal number. I was initially drawn to the Casio ProTrek ABC range of watches and actually purchased one. It lasted just a few short weeks before I returned it due the wristband constantly coming apart on me. What next? Being ex military, it wasn't long before the name Suunto Core All Black Military caught my eye. As a wildlife photographer, I really fancied a watch that could provide me with reliable (if not entirely accurate) local weather information and, for the Golden Hour, (fellow photographers will understand this) information at my finger tips on sunrise and sunset times. Not setting my expectations too high, I decided to plumb for the Suunto Core(Suunto who?). After all if I don't like it I can always get a refund. Well, having used this watch for some weeks now, you would need to take a crowbar to get it off my wrist! For me this watch is a marvel of design and functionality. On one level it's almost understated, on another, a wonderful fusion of data technology manipulation and well thought out user interactiveness. It does everything that the PR blurb says and then some more. Comfortable to wear, easy to use, simple to navigate menus and a delight to look at. The display brightness can be a bit tricky to see at times but you soon get use to this. From what I can tell so far, the ABC instrumentation and feedback is pretty much spot on. The storm alarm, which I has assumed would be something of a gimmick, actually works - really well. There is even an alarm (complete with snooze) that you can actually hear above normal ambient noise levels. If I were to use just one word to describe this watch it would be "incredible". This statement has to be tempered with the fact that I have only owned a handful of watches over the years and so have very little to compare this with. But one thing for sure, I wish that I had owned a watch like this for always.

Typical Suunto, if there is such thing. This is my second Suunto and so no surprises on my part. Well built, quite rugged and all around easy to wear. This is a larger watch but not ridiculously large. I like larger watches so that does not bother me. Easy to read even at dusk. Backlight is a bit dicky (can't quite explain best look it up on YouTube). That's definitely not something I like or appreciate about this watch. Still, it is a fairly easy watch to read even in low light conditions so I can see past that. Certainly not regretting adding it to my collection of watches.

Vorneweg: Nein, die Suunto Core all black ist nicht perfekt, aber was / wer ist das schon. Es ist eine Illusion zu glauben, irgendetwas könnte uns Menschen 100% zufriedenstellen. Wenn wir zufrieden wären, hätten wir erst gar nicht das Bedürfnis, überhaupt etwas zu kaufen oder darauf zu sparen, sondern wären Selbstversorger. Meine Produktrezension soll sich den Stärken der Suunto zum Vorschein widmen. Natürlich lasse ich die Schwächen nicht außer Acht und erkläre zum Schluss, weshalb diese Uhr 5 Sterne von mir bekommt. Die negativen Aspekte in manchen Rezensionen kann ich nachvollziehen. Das Armband sieht nach kurzer Zeit abgegriffen aus und wird wohl auch nicht allzu lange halten. Außerdem wirkt die Lünette nicht ganz fest; man kann sie zu beiden Seiten ungefähr einen zu 1/4 mm eindrücken und hört dann ein leises Knacken. Das Ganze ist wohl der Offshore-Politik von der Suunto-Vorstandschaft gefordert, die ihre Produktion überwiegend nach Fernost verlagert hat. Heutzutage wird nahezu alles in Fernost produziert - schlecht sein muss es deshalb noch lange nicht. So wie ein Skoda noch in den 1990er-Jahren noch keinen sonderlich guten Ruf hatte, wird er heute ohne Nachzudenken mit einem Volkswagen verglichen. Richtigen "Schrott" gibt es wohl heutzutage nur noch sehr selten. Aber die Suunto kauft man ja auch nicht bei KiK oder Tedi. Nun zurück zu den Makeln. Für mich sind das keine. Ich brauche keine Spaltmaße wie in der Raumfahrttechnik, sondern eine funktionierende Uhr, die verspricht, was sie hält - und das tut sie absolut. Natürlich hätte man das Armband und Gehäuse etwas robuster machen können, so dass man nicht jedes Jahr für 50€ Ersatz besorgen muss. Dann kann man mit der Uhr aber auch nur in die Berge gehen und sie nicht im Alltag tragen. Ich akteptiere es wie es ist und reibe das Armband vorsichtig mit Olivenöl ein. Das schützt und konserviert. Natürlich ist das für viele keine Option und mag sich lächerlich anhören. Ich persönlich kann das alles verschmerzen. Wer sich über die mangelnde Ausdauer der Batterie beklagt, der sollte bedenken, dass diese Uhr ein Computer ist, der ununterbrochen Messleistung zu vollbringen hat. Man würde sich viel mehr aufregen, wenn man die Sensoren zuschalten müsste und dann im Gebirge von einem Unwetter überrascht wird. Und da sind wir auch schon bei den Sensoren. Diese leisten absolut Spitzenarbeit. Es ist ganz logisch, dass der Temperaturfühler ungenau ist, wenn die Uhr am Handgelenk getragen wird. Casio löst das zugegebenermaßen etwas eleganter mit ihren Sensoren auf der Außenseite der Uhr. Aber zur Kontrolle beim Zelten (am Gestänge) oder bei einer Rast, bei der man die Suunto abnimmt, reicht dieses Gadget allemal und ist noch dazu sehr genau. Erst heute wurde ich außerdem in meinem Wohnzimmer von der Sturmwarnung meiner Suunto überrascht. Natürlich muss man die Witterung / Jahreszeit bedenken und sich dann nicht wundern, wenn anstatt eines Wolkenbruchs plötzlich Schnee daherkommt. Die Suunto piepste und mir war klar, dass der rapide Druckabfall nur Schnee / Kälte bedeuten könne. Und genau so war es auch. Ca. 1 1/2 Stunden später ging es dann richtig los. Eine ausreichende Früherkennung, wenn man irgendwo beim Wandern mal tatsächlich in einen Sturm oder Wetterumschwung geraten sollte - Danke, Suunto!!! Ich habe einige Klagen gelesen, dass die Höhenmeter nicht richtig errechnet werden würden. Das ist nicht richtig so. Die Suunto verfügt über 3 Modi. Der Höhenmodus (Altimodus) interpretiert jede Luftdruckänderung als Änderung der Höhe. Wenn dieser Modus aktiv ist, gibt es allerdings keine Wetterwarnanzeige, weil: Der Wettermodus (Baromodus) interpretiert jede Luftdruckänderung als Wetteränderung. Zuletzt gibt es noch den Automodus. Beide zuerst genannten gleichzeitig können nicht aktiv sein, da dafür zwei getrennt voneinander arbeitende Barometer zeitgleich arbeiten müssten. In einer Uhr dieses Formats wäre das wohl kaum zu realisieren, ohne dass sie klobig und klotzig werden würde. Dafür gibt es Handhelds von Garmin etc. Bilanz: Die Höhe bei der Suunto wird wie das Wetter über den Luftdruck errechnet. Je nach Modus zeigt es einem unterschiedliche Werte an. Es empfiehlt sich, die Suunto regelmäßig zu eichen, d.h., einen Referenzwert einzustellen, z.B. daheim (google liefert gute Ergebnisse auf der Suche nach den eigenen Höhenwerten, sogar mit Adresse!). Wer es auf den Meter genau braucht, der muss sich mit Karten beim Wandern behelfen oder die Werte den Schildern auf den Wanderrouten entnehmen, sofern er unterwegs ist. Aber das ist alles nicht nötig. Die Suunto hat nämlich einen dritten Modus, der automatisch Bewegung (Lagesensor im Kompass) und Ruhe erkennt. Bei Bewegung wird die Luftdruckänderung als Höhenänderung interpretiert, auch im Auto. Nach ca. 10 Min. relativen Stillstands (Pause beim Wandern, Erreichen des Ziels mit dem Auto) schaltet die Uhr in den Luftdruckmodus um und interpretiert nun die Luftdruckänderung als Wetteränderung - sofern es eine gibt. Das ist auch sinnvoll: Wenn man beim Wandern in den Bergen ist, achtet man auf das Wetter, da man in der Regel weit sieht. Bei hochalpinen Wanderungen schlägt das Wetter schnell um, aber da ist ohnehin der Wetterbericht vorher anzuhören. Bei einer Pause achtet man häufiger nicht auf den Himmel; die Suunto schaltet um und meldet, falls sich das Wetter verschlechtert. Und dazu nimmt sie auch nicht ganz neue Werte, sondern diejenigen, die sie während des Aufstiegs bereits zur Verfügung hat (Luftdruckmessung für Höhe + Wetter, je nach Interpretation). Dieses System ist absolut ausgeklügelt. Und wer während des Wanderns unbedingt den Wettertrend sehen will, der schaltet einfach in den Wettermodus um und bedankt sich bei der Suunto, dass sie nicht erst von vorne berechnen muss, weil irgend eine Unsinn die Höhe schätzt, sondern die Luftdruckwerte nimmt, die die Uhr die ganze Zeit schon beim Aufstieg (Höhenmodus) als Höhenänderung verarbeitet hat. Das macht alles Sinn, wenn man weiß, woher die Werte kommen und welche Möglichkeiten / Grenzen es gibt. Übrigens funktioniert der Automodus wunderbar, auch ohne ständiges Einstellen des Referenzwertes. Eine Fahrt mit dem Auto brachte mit -1m Abweichung und ca. 460 gemachten Höhenmetern (auf und ab über gut 70km) die Suunto wieder auf ihren daheim eingestellten Referenzwert zurück. Natürlich muss man die Referenz von Zeit zu Zeit einstellen. Selbst, wenn man das aber nicht tut, ist die Höhendifferenz noch immer verschmerzbar (in einer Woche und viel mit dem Auto unterwegs ca. 100m). Danke, Suunto!!! Einmal richtig kalibriert, funktioniert auch der Kompass tadellos und navigiert einen sogar auf den vorher eingestellten Wert. Durchaus verbesserungswürdig ist die Suunto in Punkto Wasserresistenz. 3 ATM ist manchem vielleicht zu wenig, aber in meinen Augen vollkommen ausreichend. Man muss ja nicht unbedingt damit unter die Dusche oder in die Badewanne. Allerdings weiß ich aus Erfahrung mit weitaus "billigeren" Uhren, dass 3 ATM auch zum Duschen ausreichend ist. Wichtig ist der Druck, der spontan auf das Gehäuse einwirkt, nicht der grundsätzliche Wasserdruck bzw. die Tiefe, in der die Uhr sich befindet. Tauchen / Schnorcheln ist mit der Suunto gewiss kein Problem, wenn sie nicht unbedacht mit voller Wucht auf die Wasseroberfläche aufschlägt. Gesamtfazit: Mit etwas Hintergrundwissen hält die Suunto, was sie verspricht. Diese Uhr ist nicht nur funktional, sondern auch alltagstäglich, was man am gesamten Design ablesen kann. Wenn man einen richtig robuste Outdoor-Uhr haben möchte, die jeden Steinschlag und Sturzbäche aushält, dann ist man mit dieser bzw. mit keiner "Uhr" gut bedient und sollte von der Idee eines Kaufs besser ablassen. Wer eine alltagstaugliche, eierlegende Wollmilchsau mit grundsätzlich gutem Wasserschutz und genügend Robustheit bei Bergtouren, wenn man nicht gerade Klettern geht, sucht, dann ist diese Uhr absolut zu empfehlen. Wie immer gilt: Vorher genau den Einsatzbereich und Zweck überlegen. Mit dem Prädikat "Outdoor" werben viele, implizit auch der BMW SUV X5. Aber "Outdoor" ist eben nicht gleich "Outdoor" - und das muss es auch nicht. Der Preis für die Suunto ist zumindest aktuell viel zu hoch. Ich habe die Uhr für etwa 220€ über Amazon direkt gekauft und das war meine Schmerzgrenze. Ich denke, dass v.a. das Design, was wirklich toll ist, für den hohen Preis verantwortlich ist. Wer etwas wirklich sehr robustes mit gleichem Funktionsumfang sucht, der sei an dieser Stelle auf die Suunto Vector-Reihe verwiesen. Diese Uhr hat für mich alles, was ich brauche. Schick im Alltag, funktional im "normalen" Outdoorbereich. Danke, Suunto!!!

Lo que más confusión me ha generado es la información que Amazon da de este reloj en la página de su venta. Al final no sabes lo que estás comprando y esto como experiencia de comprador no es muy buena. Dice la página de venta de Amazon que la carcasa es de acero inoxidable y el cristal de zafiro, cuando es carcasa material compuesto (algún tipo de plástico resistente supongo o no sé) el bisel de aluminio, y cristal mineral, pero no de zafiro. Lo podéis comprobar en la web de Suunto. También hay una tabla de comparación de relojes donde dice que el Suunto Core All Black tiene Altímetro GPS y tecnología FusedAlti que combina datos de GPS y presión atmosférica para calcular altitud, lo cual tambien confunde bastante, porque tiene altímetro barométrico unicamente, y en realidad no esta así mal porque sin GPS (que yo no lo quiero en un reloj) la pila dura mucho más y permite su reemplazo facilmente por el usuario, pero otra vez la información confunde mucho. Tambien dice en la tabla de comparaciones que la batería dura 20 horas, cuando no es así. La web mezcla información errónea con información certera y al final si el usuario no conoce este reloj o no busca en la web del fabricante, no puede saber que está comprando. Por favor Amazon, cuidar estos detalles para mejorar experiencia de compra. Por lo demás, es un buen reloj y la pantalla en mi opinión se ve bastante bien (que hay mucha polemica sobre esto en foros opiniones). No quiero GPS en un reloj, ni que esté conectado a todo y me e la brasa con menajes e historias varias, para eso ya tengo bastante con el teléfono móvil. Que tenga brújula, profundimetro (hasta 10 m), alarmas, cronómetro, termómetro, altímetro barométrico, barómentro anaeroide, y sea resistente fisicamente y resistente al agua, permita su cambio de pila facilmente y me de la hora, me basta y me sobra para un reloj. Me quedo un poco con las ganas de que tuviera cristal de zafiro que es más duro que el mineral por haber leido esl en la info de Amazon, pero ya he comprendido que son datos erróneos. De momento soy anti smart watch, modas... La gente tiene que vivir y vender cosas en sus empresas... Cuando sus baterías duren un año a lo mejor me lo planteo. Saludos
