I'm really pleased with the BG Single Plug Outdoor Socket! It’s built to last with a durable, weather-resistant design, making it perfect for outdoor use. I purchased this as it is suitable for type 2 EV charging. Yes it does the job, however, the cable exit is in the bottom centre of the unit. The plug is not in the centre, it is off set to the left because of the switch. This is normal for all single outlets. This may be OK for standard 3 core cable but the thicker car charger cable does not allow the cover to be fully closed. If you push on the cover, it presses on the cable and levers the plug out of the socket sufficiently far to disconnect it from the supply. Mine is in a sheltered location and with the cover down, but not fully closed as I would prefer, is still usable. A larger cable outlet for EV cables would be better.

Does what it says on the box & easy to jnstall

The front flap broke almost immediately, no longer locking in the up position, meaning 2 hands needed to plug anything in. The socket itself then stopped working after only 4 months. It’s only been used to occasionally charge a Nissan leaf via granny charger. The socket is also under a car port so has never seen a drop of rain. The little led no longer lights up, there’s a visible crack across the white plastic plug fascia, and there’s no power when plugged in. Nothing has tripped inside either, must be a total fault inside the socket itself. Poor quality.

As an outdoor waterproof socket it is great, I have a few around, singles, doubles and a timer version for outdoor lights. What yo do need to know though is that it is not suitable for mode 2 EV charging cables, they are simply too big. Good news though, BG do a socket designed for EV Mode 2 cables if that is what you need it for, check out online.

The plug is offset to the left therefore when plugging in a granny charger with a thick cable you can't close the weatherproof lid as it can't bend enough to come out the opening at the bottom. Other than that the plug is fine for normal use.
