Pokémon POK81210 TCG Lycanroc and Alolan Raichu Sun/Moon Trainer Kit for 6 years to 18 years

I'll be honest, I haven't actually played the Pokémon TCG since I was about 10-11 years old and even then I was more of a collector of the cards, rather than a player. As I got older, my affinity for trading card games never really wavered and I've spent a lot of time on Magic: The Gathering and other online games, such as Hearthstone, but never really jumped back into Pokémon. A few days before Christmas, however, and the girlfriend made it clear to me that she wanted to try and play the Pokémon TCG again - since she used to be just as big into it as I was as a child. After scouring my options, I found out about these Trainer Kit's that come with two 30-card decks that you can play with right out of the box and taught you everything that you needed to, so I decided to say screw it and just go with this as it seemed to be my best option to get us both started in the game again and I can quite confidently say it did exactly that.Inside of the package is a coin (a key mechanic in the game is flipping coins), 2 30-card decks (half the size of a normal deck to keep things simple), an online code for the online version of Pokémon TCG, 2 small rule books that teach you the game, a set of damage counters, and a play-mat that allows for you and your opponent to learn how to setup your games properly. Everything inside of the package teaches you how to play the game within a few minutes and explains the rules rather well to get you started, without having to worry about asking too many questions. Hell, even the play-mat has some of the key rules on top of it so you know how each turn goes and what the win conditions are. After playing the game for the first time, we both understood the rules pretty clearly and can now play the game without having to refer to the rules at any point - it did such a good job of teaching us what to do and when to do it.I'll say this now, if you know what you're doing when it comes to Pokémon TCG or have already started your collection, this Trainer Kit isn't going to be a worthwhile purchase. In terms of starting off your career as a Pokémon TCG master then it is perfect, since it has everything you need to play at a rather inexpensive price, but it simply isn't useful for someone who's already integrated into the TCG by now. Despite this, I can't help but recommend this to anyone who wishes to start playing Pokémon TCG with a loved one or a friend, since it includes everything you could ever need, while keeping things simple for the players who have never encroached into the game before.Do be aware, however, I write this in the perspective of someone who hasn't played Pokémon TCG prior to this and have no idea whether this Trainer Kit is better than any of the others. Either way, the decks you get are both fun to play and are balanced to prevent one steam-rolling the other; whether that's the case for any of the other Trainer Kit's I do not know, but I highly doubt any one of these is vastly better than the others and purely depends on personal preference.

Bought my Pokemon card collecting mad 6 year old this for christmas as he (& we) had no idea how to play the game. We've been playing the last few days and it is great! The 2 sets of step by step instructions are allowing us all to easily follow the steps of the game, as watching YouTube videos was driving us crazy! We aren't quite ready to start playing "proper" games but we will be in a few more games!A must for any new Pokemon trainers out there!

Fantastic set to start you off but you'll quickly outgrow it!! The 30-card version of the game is great to intro you to how it works, a couple games and you'll be ready to let rip with the 60 card deck.Only trouble is that merged in to a 60 card deck this will get beat easily. I bought my 7 year old the Mew Two theme deck thinking I could play with the trainer kit as my deck, I think I've beaten him once in about 30 games!!!So in summary a great intro but you'll be shopping for a couple of 'proper' decks before long (they are all pretty cheap though).Just ordered another theme deck for me, he's not going to know what hit him... mwahahahaha

I purchased this set to play with my just turned 6 year old son, both being complete beginners. I didn't want to invest in a couple of more expensive decks just in case he didn't like the card game and this seemed an ok price. The set has been a perfect introduction to learning the card game together and we have played it several times. I was a little unsure how complicated it would be to play but it's been perfect for us as the playmat and fold out guides walk you through each step and we're getting much more confident with the rules. My son thinks it's “awesome” and we will probably purchase more cards as time goes on. Highly recommended. Update: my son loves Pokémon and we have played lots of games although he still needs assistance with the deck building. We still use the play mat to remind ourselves of the rules as it is one of many card and board games that we enjoy and it has proven to be a very worthwhile purchase. The only downside is the money we ended up spending on cards over the last 2 years!

My son got this for his birthday a year ago and it totally got him (and me) into this! We have lots more now and play all the time! Great first set!

It's was smaller than expected but other than that it was an amazing trainer kit for beginners definitely worth the price

As a kid myself I never learned how to correctly play Pokémon cards.. Now that my son has got into them I decided we both learn! Great value! Very easy to follow along. Clear instructions. Don't shuffle the cards! My son got excited and shuffled his so we had to reorder his set because the directions say not to shuffle. After you play the first round using the guided play instructions YOU WILL BE A MASTER OF THIS GAME! My 9 year old read his instructions and I read mine and it was easy to follow along WHILE STILL HAVING FUN LEARNING! I didn't keep track of the time but I'd say about 30 fun minutes of the practice game. After that you will know how to play and you can shuffle and play the cards as you wish without the guides.Buy it! You and your kids will love it! However I don't think a kid could learn this on his/her own, they need a little guidance because it's tempting to skip over steps and read ahead or miss a step etc. Now that we know we're gonna teach my sons older siblings and friends. Oh and I used a ziplock bag to put everything in because the little tokens are very small and easy to fall out the box it came in.. see images. Still- very perfect and awesome guide and card set for beginners! Great cards in this set also!

Good set to help younger kids learn toplay if they're interested in Pokemon. Purchased for my 8 year old but my husband and I played through a couple of games to teach ourselves so we could teach him.

Zeer goed en leuk om het spel te leren. Doosje was wel wat beschadigd door inpakken.
