The item does NOT look anything like the illustration
The item does NOT look anything like the illustration. Instead of a white, uniformly illuminated board, the LEDs sit beneath what can only be described as a mesh/screen full of tiny holes. Whilst these allow light to diffuse through, they create lots of tiny points of light. If you are tracing directly onto paper placed on top, the paper itself will diffuse the light to some extent - but it will be patchy and certainly not uniform. It certainly won't bear any resemblance to the clarity of the tracing in the picture used to portray the product. The board is totally useless if you want to place transparencies or negatives onto it, as the mesh is visible and totally obscures any detail. And as thats what I wanted to use this for (something which is suggested on the product description!) - its completely useless. I've seen 'proper' light box boards which produce diffused clear light through a piece of perspex, and this ain't one of those. A big dissapointment.

Surprised it was so good.
After I blinded myself when I plugged it in, and stared down at the newly create acrylic star that had just been created on my desk, I proceeded to use this light box on a sketch I was doing of a Legend of Zelda character (Riju, of course), to get the final image onto a nice shiny new piece of paper. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this, it's light and sturdy, with a great amount of light being blown out from the LEDs that makes tracing on the paper seem like I'm just drawing over the same lines again (well, I am but you know what I mean...)It's a steady light all across the board (pun), unlike the other 2 I tried before that had brighter lights round the sides of the board. I have also just done a little test, I drew a black dot on a piece of A4 printer paper and was able to clearly see it through 7 pieces of paper placed on top of it.My only issue, isn't really one to be down-starred for, because it's incredibly obvious... The side with the USB cable (the black bar on the left in the product image) can heat up a little with use, as expected from anything that's drawing in electrcity. It's not really an uncomfortable heat, I was able to rest my arm on it without it even affecting me.NOTE :- I have only owned this product for a day, I will be coming back and changing this if there are any issues that occur with it. I have used it for about 2 hours now, plugged into a powered USB splitter that's connected to the mains and my PC.

Its okay
Cons- Consdiering theres not much of a complexity to the build, no gridlines or functions no logos (which is actually nice) im dissapointed to see the micro usb input is'nt alligned properly, and the finish round the cut...well its not finished, this tells me they don't care about their product, it's lazy. It has a halftone layer, which knocks the brightnes down, but it's a bit odd as it can play tricks on your eyes, especially considering you don't have the option to leave the pad plugged in and off. There is no on off switch.Pros-Ive tried various tests with differnt kinds of paper. I can see black fineliner through 3 sheets of 220gsm 135lb cartridge paper. I wouldn't reccomend it but its possible and thats pretty good. The surface of the pad grabs the paper which is handy, saving on tape you can also slip a thin sheet into the black bar. The light is diffused through the halftone which makes it good for long use as its easy on the eye. When it has Its really really light which I like. Super portable, I can just slip it into a sketchbook.Probably being overly critical especially considering the price but ive remebered the box and packaging wasn't great either. Anyway it works and its okay

Very, very disappointed with this - No where near bright enough to trace onto any type of paper other than tracing paper... which you don't really need a light box to do anyway!I just wanted to trace onto ordinary copier paper but couldn't see anything apart from a very faint outline with no detail what so ever.Total waste of money

Portable and Efficient
I have been working with light pads for a few years now, as it allows me to produce my design work effectively. This particular one is a great budget option and it extremely light, so it doesn't weigh down my bag! The connection is micro USB to USB, so its easy enough to plug into your PC or adaptor plug (does not come with) and the device switches on.There are definitely more pros than cons.Pros:- Very bright.- Can easily see through A4 140gsm cartridge paper & paper template underneath (as seen in photo).- Extremely portable to cart back and forth to uni.- One third thinner than my A3 lightpad.Cons:- Cable that it comes with is not long enough to reach a wall plug, however you can easily buy an inexpensive longer one off here.- No off switch, to turn it off you have to unplug it, which is a slight pain but enough of one to deduct a star!- No adjustable brightness, however that is not an issue for me as my A3 pad does this.

A great stocking filler for artistic types
I purchased this for my 10 year old as he loves drawing and making up comic strips and cartoons. For the price this has turned out to be his favourite gift for this year and it was one of the cheapest. I have had several parents contact me since to ask where it came from as visiting friends have also love using it when they come around to play. A word of advice I would give if purchasing one of these would be to get an extra long USB lead so that it can be placed more easily in the room and to pre-print off loads of line drawings off the internet so that the kids can get to work immediately. My kids are into superheroes and I found loads of human figure and superhero figure outline drawings on Pinterest that allowed the kids to make up heroes in treble quick time. I noticed this also helped them develop freehand drawing skills too.
