Can’t understand the poor ratings.
Yes, it’s cheap, yes it’s a bit fiddly but it does the job well. Are people expecting high quality steel for someone less than a fiver?Instructions would be nice but it’s fairly simple to fit. You will need a drill, a 2.5 or 3mm wood drill bit a pencil and a screwdriver.1- Position the gate closer with one end on the post and the other on the gate. I placed them quite close to the edge but not too close to risk splitting the wood.2- Mark the hole positions with a pencil and drill pilot holes to the depth of the supplied screws.3- Screw the gate closer into position. Now the fiddly bit:4- On the post side place a small pin in the hole and rotate until it touches the metal (see photo for position for gate that opens to the left).5- Using the long metal bar to rotate the gate closer until you’ve got tension in the spring, add another half turn and then place the second small pin in the hole nearest the gate. Gently let the tendon off the bar until the second pin is in contact with the metal.6- Test the closing pressure. If it’s too fast move the pin back one hole and forward one if the tension isn’t enough. If the gate opens then you’ve turned the spring the wrong way. What's really helpful is if you can find a second bar, a long screw works well, to help putting the pressure on.Also, if you lose a pin I’ve found a 3mm hex small screwdriver bit works well as a replacement.

Brilliant spring - perfect for keeping the gate closed and the dog safe
This is a great value and quite sturdy spring, I had no trouble at all fitting it to my gate in under 5 minutes and the instructions are clear. It did such a good job of closing it that, when I tested it, the gate shut behind me so fast that I am now locked out of my garden (and house - as I used the back door) until I find someone to lend me a ladder. Decided to write this review on my phone while I wait for the neighbours to come home from work. All in all, a brilliant spring - very effective!

It is not difficult to install, and it works.
Some reviews imply that this gate spring is difficult to install but if you take a minute ir two to think what it is going to do it becomes obvious. It’s true that there are no instructions and you might wonder what the three wee bits are for but just use your head. One important thing to note is do not drop the two tiny wee studs which keep the tension on the spring: put down a towel or something, especially if you’re working over gravel. The spring works, it does the job, it’s good value for money.

Simple spring for return of gate but missing bit
OK so this is a simple spring which you fit to the door then across to the frame push in the little silver plug into the end then using the bar supplied you tention the spring and guess what I there was no second metal silver plug so no way of holding tension, I contacted customer surport who advised you only need one plug dispight their advert showing 2 I advised them of this and their attitude was well you can return it, well being I. The middle is fitting door I had hoped they would simply pop the missing piece in the post, any way I decided to cut a small amount off of the tention rod that came with it and it did the job, but poor customer relations sorry could do better

Completely Useless!
This is not fit for sale, the design & quality are appalling. The idea is that you fit some pins to adjust the tension in the spring. However, the diameter of the pins is way too small and they just fall out of the holes.A better design would be to use screws or at the very least malleable metal or plastic pins that could be wedged in place. If past experience is anything to go by, the Seller will just relist this under a different name when they get too many bad reviews. Amazon really should take steps to stop this happening.

Cheap and not very cheerful
Fitted it easily enough, even the tensioning was easy, did need a bit of force applied but I was expecting that.Worked fine on day 1. On day 2, gate wast closing so well as on day 1. So I added some tension, only for the speing to pop out of the bottom connector and one of the tensioning plus to fly away into the sunset! With some difficulty, I manaaged to reattach the spring, was lucky to bind the missing plug in my gravel path nand reattched the spring to the gate - all on day 2.Day 3 now and am living in hope.

Does the job, but....
As in the title it's ok, but the tensioning pins are no good, as they are to small for the holes that they are supposed to fit in.I ended up having to use the heads of pop rivets, as the original pins fell out as soon as the tension was released.I would also suggest using other screws as the one's that are supplied are only 18mm. Which will be adequate in some circumstances, however, the gate I bought these for is close boarded 2m x 900mm timber in an position that can be a bit of a wind tunnel,( hence the reason I purchased 2 of these springs) I ended up using 40mm screws.

Very happy
I feel very happy with this item. I bought knowing the were no instructions and some reviews were negative saying it was difficult to attach. I managed it thanks to a YouTube video in seconds. It does the job very solidly.
