Keeps wine fresh
Excellent product. Really does make your open bottle of red last longer. It’s easy to use and easy to clean.

Don’t live life in a vacuum - drink from one!
Have you ever wanted just one glass of wine, but felt compelled to drink the whole bottle just because it’s open? The Vacu Vin solves that little conundrum admirably, and stops you looking like a lush!An open bottle allows air in, and the air oxidises the wine into acetic acid (vinegar). If you can remove all the air and stopper the bottle, no more oxidation, and the wine will keep for a few days. The way it works is really simple. Take a stopper, which is made in two parts, and wash it, shaking out the water afterwards. Reassemble the top and bottom parts and jam it firmly into your open bottle like a cork. Then take the pump and push the open end onto the top of the stopper, making sure you hold it down and grip the top of the bottle too. Then gently pump the plunger up and down a few times until you hear a distinct clicking sound. That’s it. The air has been removed from the empty space in the bottle, forming a vacuum, and anchoring the stopper into place. At first it looks like the stopper isn’t in properly, but if you try and gently tug it upward, you will feel the vacuum resisting. To release the stopper, push the rubber knob in the centre over to one side and you will hear the vacuum seal break with an audible hiss. Pour yourself a drink and reseal the bottle again. The instructions are pictorial and not that explanatory, but the Vacu Vin is hardly difficult to use. A little care the first couple of uses and you’ll be fine. Try to grip the bottle neck and pump end together with one hand vertically, and don’t tip the pump, otherwise you will not create a seal. I’d also advise not doing this on a slippery surface. The first time I tried my bottle slipped on the wooden kitchen table, which would have made quite a mess as the bottle was of course open. Pumping the bottle on a placemat gave it enough grip. After you have finished your bottle, wash and dry the stopper before storing, just so that you always have a clean one straight out of the box.I tested the Vacu Vin on a bottle of red wine, pouring a glass after uncorking, then sealing it for four days before pouring another. To my uneducated palate, the wine was perfectly fine and tasted the same as when I first opened it. I did the same thing the following day, and the day after that. The wine still tasted good to me. I would have tried a 7th day, but I ran out of wine!I’m really glad I bought this item, having seen it on YouTube. It allows me to have a single glass of wine when I want it without feeling the need (or using the excuse) to finish the lot because it would go bad. The stoppers are easily washable, and reusable, so this set is good value. Now that I’ve used it, my one regret is that I didn’t buy the set with four stoppers at the outset, but you can buy extra ones later. If you found my review helpful, please click the Yes button to let me know. I’ll be happy to try and answer any questions you have about this product.

Brilliant
Brilliant, I am excited to say that it works really well and the wine stays fresh for several days so that there is no need to try and drink the whole bottle at once.

Excellent Product
Pump ,as always ,very good.Replaced the original after 12+ years of use.The Rubber cork seems not to be quite up to date with the inner diameter of the current bottles,ie doesn't hold the vac. as well as the previous model; but then the wordl has changed from cork to screw-top

Red Wine Seal
This is about the third thing I've tried for red wine bottles. Seen this used at a pub and thought I'd order one. This is easy to use and clicks to help indicator when air is removed. There is also the tension on the pump. This comes with two stoppers which fit easily and have quick release. It only takes a small number of pumps to seal the bottle, obviously depending on the amount of liquid in the bottle. Impressed with this so far so would recommend.

Useful kitchen tool rather than just another gadget...
There are already some excellent reviews on this item, but I hope these comments are still of use following the purchase of this kit based on a personal recommendation.Kits contents: The standard kit (as at May 2014) includes two vacuum stoppers and a pump handle. The stoppers slip easily into standard bottles, but still create a good seal. They are absolutely fine in the dishwasher.Ease of use: Well designed items work easily and that applies here. The pump is placed on top on the stopper and pulled up and down a number of times to create a vacuum - the less wine there is in the bottle the more you have to pump. The pump makes a discreet clicking noise when sufficient vacuum has been created. To release the vaccum just takes the pressure from one finger on the stopper to release the seal and you are ready to enjoy another glass or two.Length of time it will save wine for: There seems to be quite a bit of disagreement in the reviews on this. I suspect this is down to different wines reacting differently as well as to personal tastes. We have found that it keeps red wine well for up to a few days, but would not really go beyond that.Overall: There are an awful lot of kitchen fad tools out there and I was sceptical this might be another one of those. I could not have been more wrong - it works well, is simple to use, it is well made, and helps avoid waste: a true kitchen 'must have'!Thoroughly recommended.

I Don't Keep Throwing Wine/Money Away Anymore!
This really really works - I am very happy with it. When I feel like a glass of wine, I can now have it without feeling guilty about throwing the rest away a couple of days later. I did my research online first and I was not aware that the best way to keep wine after being opened (also, shhhhh I know it seems like sacrilege..my favourite - Port!) was in the dark, and with this system, happily in the fridge. I wouldn't choose to do it with an expensive wine, not because I don't trust the product, I simply would use a humongous glass and after a refill the bottle would be empty anyway! But, seriously, living alone and often feeling like a glass of wine whilst curled up watching a film, knowing that I would end up throwing the rest away was always frustrating. The only thing that I had to get my head around with the Vacu Vin was to try and forward plan a bit because of the wine being cold. I didn't get a good result with leaving the wine in a glass on a warm radiator for like for evah innit! I pour some wine into a mug, put a small saucer on top and......yup! - bung it in the microwave! Shock Horror! I know. I have no shame - but it works for me. Before I get blacklisted by some secret wine tasting society, I hasten to add.. I would Not do it to a Chateau Lafite!.Joking aside, it is a great piece of kit. Easy to use and inexpensive. I highly recommend it. The only downside for me is that I don't particularly like plastic. I got the black one and I keep it in a kitchen drawer rather than on the drinks tray thingy - but that's just me. The simple, elegant, functional design is actually quite acceptable. En-hic-joy - Cheers!

Best Thing Ever
Sometimes we come across bad design, in all sorts of things, eg a 'waffle' material shower curtain which is not watertight, or metal dish holders that deposit rust on your plates and cutlery, or a guitar stand that scratches the finish on your new guitar, etc etc.But this item I have to say is an example of GOOD design, this is really a great item, it deserves an award. The stoppers are curved so they fit different sized bottle necks, and they dismantle so they can be cleaned easily. The vacuum pump is powerful and easy to use, just around 8 up-down strokes are needed, then the best bit - the CLICK - it indicates when a vacuum has been reached, so you don't have to just guess. (And with this you can also check a couple of days later whether there's still a vacuum). When opening the bottle again, you just push a little tab on the stopper to the side, and you then hear the air rushing in, and the stopper just comes out easily, ie you don't have to pull it out by force against the vacuum. The seperate stopper and pump, and availability of additional stoppers, means you can preserve several opened bottles at once, with only one pump needed. How good is that? This is smart design, and great for those who like a moderate drink of wine, eg a single glass in a day, rather than a whole bottle.Totally brilliant, best thing ever.

Second place wine preserver by Cooks Illustrated
Easy to operate, with no learning curve. I'm not a wine expert, so I wouldn't notice the difference on my palate if it wasn't doing its job, but Cook's Illustrated rated it very highly, so I assume that it is working :)UPDATE - SHORT VERSION - Convenient and works well, but Cook's Illustrated did some tests and found some even better products!UPDATE - LONG VERSION:This is now the second place Wine Saver at www.cooksillustrated.com, as they have found a better one that preserves wine for longer. Here's what they had to say: "For years we’ve preserved open bottles of wine either by using the Vacu Vin Wine Saver, an inexpensive ($9.29) pair of rubber stoppers with a pump that sucks the air out of the bottle, or by pouring leftover wine into a smaller bottle or Mason jar to stave off oxidation. But innovative new gadgets promise to keep wine drinkable longer. We tested six tools, including the Vacu Vin, on half-empty bottles of red and white wine, comparing and evaluating the wines’ flavors and drinkability at various time intervals.....Our old favorite worked reliably and kept wine drinkable for a week, but two new models bested it. As of press time, these two models had kept wine drinkable for one month. (We’ll continue to taste and report, so check our website for updates.) By inserting one model's sharp, hollow needle through the cork—we never had to uncork the bottle—we could pour just the amount of wine that we wanted while activating a pressurized capsule that simultaneously fed argon (an inert gas) into the bottle to displace the tapped wine. Not even our trained wine expert could say which was fresher: a month-old bottle sealed by this product or a freshly opened bottle of the same vintage. Another, cheaper product is a worthy Best Buy: It forms a barricade against air when its balloon is lowered into the bottle and inflated just above the surface of the leftover wine. On the downside, it’s slightly finicky and can be used on only one bottle at a time."Their new winner, for a short while, was the Coravin Wine Access System, but that was recalled (see www.cooksillustrated.com for more details), and the latest first-place is the Air Cork The Wine Preserver: "Once you get the hang of lowering the food-safe latex balloon into the bottle and inflating it just above the leftover wine’s surface, this budget-friendly device effectively seals off air, preserving wine’s drinkability for at least one month (we are continuing to test). A downside: You can seal only one bottle at a time. Balloons are guaranteed for 80 uses; replacement balloons cost about $4."

Easy to use, good value
Not much more to add to my headline review. It is well made, gives a click when the vacuum is in place, and easy to use. Definitely recommended.

Funciona perfecto
