Samsung T3 USB 3.1 500 GB External Solid State Drive

Using with Macbook 2015 - El Capitan.I've tried numerous portable SSD drives over the years and it's great to see them becoming ever more affordable. For a long time Samsung has been my preferred portable SSD drive manufacturer -- mainly because of their compatibility with Mac OS's.This drive is no different. Setup takes no time at all, Install a driver and you're away. By default the drive gets you to set a password, which as a security professional I welcome (people should be forced to do this with devices as small as this which can be lost easily).It's compatibility cross-platform is why I choose Samsung again-and-again. I can take this drive out of my Mac and plug it into my Android phone with no problems at all. It just works.Write speeds are quick over USB3 - 5GB in less than 10 secs.The size of this device makes it super portable. It takes up no space in my backpack, This is especially nice as a remote worker travelling between sites.

Very nice SSD , super fast transfer via USB-C ,I bought a USB-C to USB-C cable separately . Wish I could afford the 2 TB one, but alas the 500 GB is my financial limit at the moment, as soon as I can afford the 2TB I'll be ordering it , One word of warning if you use the password manager for security, it ejects the disk and up pops a notification saying "DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY" , I contacted SAMSUNG and they suggested I remove the password manager (which I did ) and it works fine now on my new MacBook Pro with touch bar , BUT A BIT SILLY THAT I HAVE TO REMOVE THE SECURITY PASSWORD JUST TO GET IT WORKING PROPERLY ?????? otherwise its a great SAFE way of backing up my MacBook Pro .....Oh and it looks so cool next to my laptop !

This SSD is tiny and works well between my windows computer and my MacBook Pro 2017.There are variation in speeds....lighting quick with a USB-c adaptor straight into the MacBook Pro (doesn't come with it, had to buy it seperatly)But with windows even with a USB 3 connection can be very slow at times, but quick at others.Would have given it 5 stars but doesn't come with a USB C to USB C cable as well as the usb c to USB 3 cable and not consistent with the speeds on USB 3

Reviewed at £169.98 price pointThe real surprise about this for me was its size, or rather the lack of it. It is slim, very slim (the little manual is bigger than the drive!) and seems beautifully made.Supplied with (what feels like) a very high quality USB cable. Data transfer speeds are very high (certainly better than a USB stick or SD card) and I the build quality of the product gives the impression of something that will last a long time.I would like to dock half a star because I think (given the price) it should come with a carry case/pouch to protect it from cosmetic damage and store the USB cable when not in use.

This is a fantastic SSD:- FAST (on my system it is as fast as advertised, which is phenomenal - but speed will vary depending on your system - whatever speed it is, it will be a lot faster than any traditional spinning hard disk)- SMALL- RELIABLE (SSDs have no moving parts and are more reliable than traditional hard disks - plus they are silent, no whirring)- EASY (just use it as it comes, and it instantly works - or format to whatever you require: in my case, I formatted it to Apple format to use with a Mac, but just leave it as general FAT format if you want, and it should work with anything, including Windows, Mac, Android etc)

This thing is used to run VMs on a Macbook so has to be quick.. and it is.I can use this connected to USB3 and it works as if using a local SATA HDD etc - as far as programs running without any hangs etc.i have two of these now because they are just so handy.

I've been using the T3 and T1 for sometime, connected via a laptop usb 3.0 port. absolutely superb in every way, incredibly fast. Even with BitLocker enabled, getting between 150-270MBytes/sec minimum. The T3 seems faster. Also noticed that the drive has coped well with random powerouts and improper disconnects. The inbuilt Samsung encryption utility, tested on the T1 (the T3 seems to use the same), was an absolute disaster. improper accidental diaconnects often resulted in file system corruption and ultimately a drive failure. BitLocker 100% stable on these and very fast.

Drive is really fast - Great for backing up large numbers of files. Build quality is superb, with a very solid feel to the drive>cable connection. As others have said, at this price I would expect a case and have therefore docked 1 star.
