If you haven't got one yet, you need to!
This is a great product and is very well made, it's very light too and easy to clean. Used it at the weekend instead of the BBQ due to rain - it sat neatly on the kitchen work top and worked a treat - we fed 8 adults and two children due to the large cooking surface - I recommend this to anyone 100%

Fab grill!
Bought this to replace a more traditional electric outdoor grill that cost twice the price and stopped working after about 15 uses. This simple hotplate is fantastic! We've used it in the garden a couple of times a week over the summer - much less hassle than a conventional bbq, and it's a great way to liven up what might otherwise be a run-of-the-mill dinner (chicken salad etc). Everything tastes better cooked on here, has that 'outdoor' flavour without the effort of lighting an actual bbq. I bought the XL which holds loads of food, easily enough cooking space for 4 hungry adults. The non stick coating is very effective, and makes the cleanup really easy. My old outdoor electric grill had ridges, which left a nice pattern on the food but were a nightmare to clean so I appreciate the smooth surface appearance of this grill. One thing I would say is that it does struggle to cook thicker foods all the way through in a reasonable time. If I'm doing chicken breasts then I cut the in half horizontally so they cook through quickly without burning or drying out. I highly recommend buying a temperature probe to check food is fully cooked! The heat seems fairly even across the whole grill, it is slightly hotter in the middle and the end nearest the controller is coolest. My only tiny gripe is that although there is a channel running all around for collecting run-off oil, and there is a hole leading to a small drip tray underneath, the whole grill is flat so there is nothing to encourage the oil to flow towards the hole and into the drip tray. If you cook a lot of food and release a lot of oil you end up filling up the channel, which is a bit tricky at the end of the meal when you need to pick the grill up and bring it indoors. Not a massive problem but something to be aware of. I looked at several of these grills on amazon that all look to be same as this one, some of them have very poor reviews based on safety concerns. I deliberately chose this branded product in the hope that the build quality would be better and I'm pleased to say that I have no concerns at all about the electrical safety of this grill. A great purchase which we all love. There is even talk of using this to cook our Christmas dinner at the table this year!

So far so good, but...
We replaced a very old Tefal raclette with this as we found we used the top grill a lot and the paddles not so much. It's really easy to use and heats up quickly - we cooked everything from chicken, sausages, meat skewers and korean bbq (which is our favourite!) on it. It cleans quite easily with a damp paper towel - the non-stick coating (so far) is very good and the drip tray helpful. The only niggle we found was that during extended cooking the unit would turn itself off after a while - not sure if this is due to overheating? It happened twice during one grilling session but we did keep the unit at high temp for quite a long time so that might have been why? Haven't had issues with it otherwise. Oh and the cable is really short! Have an extender at the ready.

A little gem! A complete revelation.
What a great item. I was introduced to these little gems by some friends who had invited us over to their holiday cottage for the day and they popped one of these on a garden bench - on an extension lead, of course - and proceeded to 'barbecue' our evening meal. I was asked to assist for a while and took over the grill while they dealt with other tasks for the meal and I was super impressed with how well this grill cooked the food. Any excess fat ran away into a channel and thence, via a hole, to the little tray provided underneath the cooking surface. Unlike regular barbecue equipment it took literally seconds to heat up, and so cooking could get underway immediately without all the usual standing around for an hour while the charcoal 'develops'. The cooking was quick and easy; the food flavourful with just a nice hint of browning rather than the almost inevitable charcoaling of the sausages and other equally unfortunate items. Cleaning was a simple wipe over with a kitchen paper towel and an emptying and washing of the tray beneath. Job done! A complete revelation if you need something to quickly grill your food. The only thing that I would slightly fault it on is the heat control. It was a bit tricky to find a 'middle level' of heat and so required a bit of tweaking now and again to adjust cooking rates, but this is a very minor gripe and should not deter anyone from using this little gem. Needless to say, I went out the next week and bought one. It was a no-brainer. Especially at the price. Why wouldn't you?

Brilliant.
Being the type of person who likes to try and do things without paying a premium for the right equipment, I bought this because it was cheap and I thought it might make achieving the necessary temperatures for the hot air reflowing of solder on broken electronics somewhat easier. So, the item arrived today and it just so happened that I'd already planned on making home-made burgers (minced beef, salt and pepper, and a bit of garlic powder) for tea. Normally I do my burgers under the grill but, having also read the other reviews on here about how good this is at actually cooking, I thought I'd give it a whirl. Well, really all I can say is that this is brilliant. The item heats up quickly and at full chat the plate exceeds 220c (which is the most my infra-red thermometer goes up to). It cooked my burgers quicker than my electric grill and they tasted better. I also threw some thick sliced back bacon on there and it was cooked in a few minutes. All the fat runs away into the little tray underneath. Having now eaten the burgers, I've just done the washing up and this thing couldn't be easier to clean. The non-stick surface of the plate is, without doubt, the most non-stickiest thing I've ever come across and cleaning was a doddle with a bit of kitchen roll and then the sponge side of a pan scourer. It's now hanging on the wall waiting for its next use, which will either be a nice steak on Friday night or a faulty xbox motherboard on Saturday. I'll keep you posted about that but in the meantime, if you want something nice to eat, you shouldn't hesitate to buy this.

Excellent Grill
Very pleased with my Andrew James teppanyaki grill. I have only a vague idea what teppanyaki actually is but this grill cooks up a mean bacon, sausage and egg breakfast and is a joy to put on the table when you have friends round to cook their own steaks, chicken breasts, prawn and scallop skewers etc. All very sociable. The added bonus (for us, at least)is that the grill is lightweight enough to be able to take camping with us on those occasions when we have an electric hook-up. The non stick cooking surface works well - I just wipe mine down with a little oil after each clean. Cleaning is incredibly simple - wipe with a soapy cloth and you're done. The thermostatic temperature control seems to be reasonably sensitive (range from 0-5) and the grill heats to temperature in minutes. High praise then for this lovely product, but what deserves a mention too is the customer service from Andrew James themselves. My first grill arrived very quickly but the courier decided it was a good idea to drop the grill over a 6ft gate and leave it out in the rain as I was out at the time! Needless to say the grill was damaged when I opened it. Andrew James asked me to email a photo of the damage and, 24 hours later, a new grill was with me via express delivery. I did not have to return the damaged grill - now that is what I call excellent customer service.

Arrived Faulty - TWICE!
Unfortunately I cannot actually comment on the performance of this product, because mine arrived faulty – twice, and after battling with customer service for a solid month (yes an entire month) I am now settling for a refund. Therefore my review is regrettably more geared towards the poor build quality of these products, and the dreadful customer service I received after experiencing my first issue. Firstly, the product – cheaply made is an understatement. I’ve got a feeling they might be generically made and then just name-stamped, as there appears to be many other companies offering exactly the same product. My first one wobbled dangerously because the feet were so uneven, the middle two feet touched the surface but the outer four didn’t! It was not fit for use, so I returned it, at my own expense to avoid having to travel out to find one of their randomly placed collection points (they couldn’t be bothered to actually arrange a courier to collect from my address). Two weeks later I had a second one, this one was, believe it or not, worse than the first. The box it arrived in was torn, not sealed properly and had gaping holes in it. The legs were again uneven, with a back leg not touching the surface at all, one of the front legs was completely broken off, and the surface of the grill had scratch marks where the coating had come completely off. Needless to say, I sent this one back too. To their credit, Andrew James did on this occasion send a courier to my address to collect. But they always refuse to send a replacement until they have the faulty one back, which is fine, but means you can easily lose a week in waiting. I did say at this point that if they couldn’t guarantee me one of good condition, then I’d prefer a refund, to which they replied they would send me another one, but it was like dealing with robots, they never at any point said they would ensure that a decent product would be sent to me, it was nothing but the standard robot customer service responses – responses that took anywhere from 1-3 days to arrive in my inbox. I really just wanted/needed someone to get a grip of the problem and sort it. On the day I was expecting to receive a third and final attempt at this grill, after chasing them via email, they informed me that they had instead issued me a refund, which would appear in 3-4 days. Whilst I did not actually request a refund, I accepted it, because I was a little fed up by this point. I would like to point out that I am not an awkward customer, I have purchased a few Andrew James products recently and have been more than pleased with their quality, I was deeply surprised by the way my replacement requirements were handled and I feel let down and disappointed by the Andrew James brand. I have my own company which holds, packs and ships online-sold products, and I would thoroughly expect to lose customers forever if I handled such a situation as they have. I am a bit frustrated that I never got to even try out this grill. I had a similar one before (a Gordon Ramsay one) and whilst good, it took an age to cook anything on it, I was hoping this would be better, but I have my doubts, electrically controlled thermostat controlled devices usually take an age to cook anything. I think I’m going to save my pennies and go for a cheap commercial one, one that’s actually built to last. And I think it safe to say it's going to take a while to build up the courage to use AJ again.

Good value for money does the job
For the price, an excellent piece of kit. Heats up quite quickly. Although if you need big heat, not great. Easy to clean, but wait till the grease goes hard to pull out the collection tray or you are likely to scald yourself. Cooked some steaks one night, did a fry the next. The units for cooking the eggs are as I have found with all of them pretty useless, the egg leaks out underneath. But holds enough to make a nice egg.
