The only answer for really hard water areas
We live in an all-electric home in a very hard water area, so our immersion heater gets a lot of use, under pretty extreme condition, and has to be pretty tough.Since we had our hot water tank replaced 5 years ago, I have had to replace the immersion heater 5 or 6 times! (The original heater lasted over ten years.) The heater that came with the new tank lasted about two years before splitting and shorting out, but since then no heater has lasted as long as a year and some have only made it to a few months - our most recent one lasted under 6 weeks! Not knowing about special heaters for hard water, my first replacement was a standard copper immersion, which only last a few months (why on earth do they sell copper immersions in such a hard water area?!). After that I used the incoloy ones, designed to stand up to hard water, but I haven't had much more success with these (the one that most recenty failed after less than six weeks was an incoloy one). To be fair to incoloy heaters, one of those that failed did so because of some internal problem (it just didn't produce enough heat), not because it ruptured (how lucky am I with immersions?!).So, eventually, driven to distraction by constantly having to replace immersions, I discovered titanium heaters - which hopefully are the answer to our problems. None of the local plumbers merchants and DIY stores had them, so I ordered online (and was very impressed when the heater arrived the next day - less than 24 hours after I ordered it).I haven't even fitted it yet, so I can't tell you how it's performed. So I'm giving it 5 stars for now, and will report back in a few months and after a year or two to see how it's doing.Fingers crossed this one really IS the answer!Update Nov 2014:We moved a year after the original review and the immersion was still working OK then. I haven't heard from the new owner if he's had any problems with the immersion, so I assume it's still going strong after two years.

First of all, it claims to be the Titanium brand. But it has INCOLOY all over the description and the same photo. So, what is the seller selling?!I've bought two Titanium brand 14" immersion heater. Here's the fault: - Tested both thermostat, but their setting are not the same. under the same temperature, one has higher cut-out than the other. It means the temperature markings on the thermostat is only a rough estimatin only. I tested it by having the two thermostat in the same tub of hot water, and adjusting the setting to see when it clicks in/out. - One of the thermostat I've bought has a faulty relay in the thermostat. When the whole unit is installed and the temperature is hot enough to cut-out the current, the relay rattles. Clear audiable noise and the relay unit heating up. That causes the relay unit to overheat and cut-out. This is a series reliablity issue!!!!I have only bought two units, with the faults seen, it seems the quality control of these units are seriously doubtful.
