WORTH the extra money spent
Like most people, I have purchased several carpet cleaners over the years only to have them fail after a year, if they last that long! So if you add up all the money spent on other machines, I could have purchased 2 of these machines. Keeping this in mind, about 8 years ago, I purchased this exact same machine and wouldn't have had to replace it but the front carpet suction portion broke off one day when I was using it. That machine, other than this one flaw, still works today. When I did the research regarding the top rated machines on the market, Rug Doctor was still rated the highest. I wanted a machine similar to what I purchased several years ago and that is why I decided on this one verses the #1 rated Rug Doctor (this was #2). WOW, what can I say...this machine is FANTASTIC. The suction has improved greatly over my prior machine and so my carpets dry in half the time. Another improvement was the extra boost sprayer; it sits a bit higher on the machine and doesn't spray quite as much cleaning fluid. The power cord is also longer on the new machine. The only negative I see, is that they moved the power cord winding portion from the back to the side and with the cord being longer, the side mount isn't large enough to hold all of the cord and so it has a tendency to fall off. Another thing they added to the new machine is a very nice fabric bag to hold the attachments (furniture, drapes, etc.).I would recommend this cleaner if you have pets who have messed on your carpets. I recently rescued a 1 year old Dachshund who I was told was potty trained. Needless to say, he wasn't (and still has accidents) and I have cream colored carpet throughout my home (not my choice). Within a short period of time, I had yellow spots throughout the living room carpet even though I used a spot cleaner immediately after. I used my former Rug Doctor to clean up those spots until the front suction mechanism broke. After receiving my replacement machine yesterday, I immediately tried it on some of those stains and am extremely impressed with the new improvements.Overall, I would purchase this machine again and can highly recommend it to anyone who wants clean carpets and doesn't want to have to rent a machine every time they clean their carpets.

Worth every penny!
I’ve needed to clean my carpets quite frequently lately because I have a senior rabbit whose litter box habits have gotten abysmal with his age. I’ve owned a Bissell carpet cleaner that provided unsuccessful results, and lately have been renting a larger rug doctor every few weeks from my local grocery store. I liked it so much that I decided it was time to just bite the bullet and buy my own. This thing is AMAZING!! Great suction and the scrubbing rollers really help bring up old stains and unpleasant smells. The size is perfect too; large tank capacity but still lightweight and easy for anyone to maneuver. If you’re a pet owner in a carpeted home, this is a must-have.

Replaced within a year
UPDATE: 02/2024:This Rug Doctor did not break down, but I've decided to replace it anyway. Not sure if this is a lemon or a common defect, but the sharp shrill it makes when spraying is pretty much unbearable at this point. I see Shark has started making carpet cleaners, and am going to try that next. Their vacuums are even better than Dyson (in my experience and opinion), so I'm hoping their carpet cleaners will be a superior product. If not, I'm going to have to remove all carpet from my house and buy a mop, because I'm sick of replacing these carpet cleaners. For the money, I'm really disappointed in this Rug Doctor.UPDATE 10/2023:I’ve had this for 6 months now. While I still recommend this over the competition, it is not aging well. It leaks A LOT all over the carpet when I turn it off after using it. Also, when I tilt it back on the wheels to spray the floor with cleaner, after 15 seconds or so it starts to make a sharp shrill noise that’s like nails on a chalkboard. That certainly didn’t happen brand new. These issues arose with moderate use, cleaning pet accidents. It’s disappointing, at this price point, to have these issues so soon, but the competition would have broken down by now, probably more than once.Lowering my rating to 3 and 1/2 stars.____________________________________ORIGINAL REVIEW:I almost did not pull the trigger on this purchase due to its price ($425), and my past experience with carpet cleaners. But I got it in the mail today and used it, and I am certainly glad I did! This replaced a piece of junk Hoover that you can get on here for roughly $90. That lasted a few months and broke. It was hard to clean, leaked a ton, had poor suction and was poorly designed. Before that Hoover, I had multiple Bissell carpet cleaners. The older models would last about 1.5 years each (for $180ish), but the last Bissell I got only lasted a few months. Hard to clean, easily clogged, poorly designed... these machines are all disposable, and all the money wasted really frustrated me. I also owned another Hoover about 10 years back, a more expensive model, and that one was not too bad at cleaning (it was heavy), but the suction quit after a year.I got this Rug Doctor today and was surprised at the weight. It is heavy (I'm a petite woman), but not as heavy as I expected. Certainly no heavier than your average Bissell, IMO. The difference between this Rug Doctor and both Bissell and Hoover is that this Rug Doctor is SOOOO much easier to clean! Pet hair does not clog it like it does the competition, and the pet hair is actually easy to clean out without a butter knife or drain snake! The water compartments are designed well, no risk of losing seals and getting leaks like in my last Hoover. This Rug Doctor only suctions when you pull it back, so that took some getting used to, but it literally was suctioning the carpet off the floor!!! No joke... the carpet was moving, which I'd never seen before! The carpet was completely dry within a few hours. No carpet cleaner I've owned has ever been able to accomplish any of that, and the suction on those other cleaners was pitiful. So, what did I clean with this new Rug Doctor? I cleaned pee off a carpet from my son's potty accidentally spilling; I cleaned my dog's accident spots, and my dog got her period today, so I cleaned out a bunch of unanticipated red stuff, too. The carpets look great (and my dog's now in a diaper)! With that said, you will benefit from a mat to store this on, because it does leak a tad bit. From what I have seen thus far, it has leaked about a tablespoon worth of water. This was expected (which is why I bought a mat), because they ALL do, though so far, this Rug Doctor leaks the least when sitting.I am super picky about my vacuums and carpet cleaners, so if this thing does not age well, I will definitely update my review. So far, though, this is definitely worth the extra money. I'm glad I did not spend $200+ on yet ANOTHER crappy Bissell (I certainly was not buying another Hoover) that would have been full of impossible-to-remove pet hair after the first use.

Love this thing
It folds. It has AMAZING suction. If you have kids or pets or well anyone living in the house this thing comes in handy! I’ve cleaned my white rug twice. Once after I used a Hoover pet version that worked great or so I thought until I recleaned with this little thing. I do empty the tank a lot and fill the water tank a lot but I knew this going into buying a smaller version and it doesn’t bother me to do it. It amazes me how dirty such small areas are and this way I can make sure areas are clean. This has cleaned my white rug wonderfully twice, a kid chair that I thought would need burned due to how gross it was and just a week ago my dog decided to start having her puppies on my children’s bedroom carpet and my sons mattress. You can’t even tell the event happened in their room! And when my dog went in later to smell the area to clean it like they do she couldn’t find where it was!I LOVE THIS THING!
