Huawei MediaPad M3 8.4-Inch Tablet - (White) (4 GB RAM, 32 GB SSD, Android)

If you love the ‘book like’, form factor of the old and great Nexus 7 then you will love this tablet because it improves on the Nexus in every way; good performance, great quality and excellent display for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. Pros Excellent performance. Great display with good resolution and default colouration. Screen aspect ratio may not suite those who watch lots of videos or play intense games. Very well made. Enjoyable to hold and use. Has a substantial feel that means it doesn’t feel as precarious to hold as the wafer thin tablets. Small foot print. Good battery life. Nicely balanced to hold with one hand. Excellent finger print recognition (better than the Samsung Galaxy Tab). Can add an SD card. Cons Rear camera is passable, but lags many of its competitors in detail. Sound is acceptable but not top notch. Lots of bloat-ware pre-installed. I really like this tablet. It's fast, has a great display, and works well - so far, within the first 3 weeks, no problems whatsoever, no crashes, etc. Nonetheless, I am quite disappointed. Some reviews and the official description led me to believe that it would be updated to Android 7.0 during setup. Which wasn't the case - my tablet still runs on 6, and when checking it reports no updates. Then I contacted the Huawei customer service to ask about the Android upgrade to Nougat. Someone promptly asked for my serial number, which I provided, and then I did not hear from them again. With this outdated OS (the Google Pixel meanwhile runs on Android 8, after all!) and the terrible customer service this product is, in my eyes, not worth more than 3 stars - 1 star each deducted for OS and customer service. P.S. I added one star, since on 15 December the tablet finally updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. The deduction for the bad customer service stays, though - I never heard from them again.

The MediaPad M3 is a good quality 8-inch tablet. The hardware is first class, with solid performance from the processor/memory combination. Very good screen IPS high resolution excellent viewing angles. Case is solid aluminium and feels quality in your hands. There is a headphone socket (but no phones included in the box). The loudspeakers deliver good sound. Front fingerprint sensor works brilliantly for convenient unlocking. Only slight downside is the side bezels which are very thin and this can make hand-holding in portrait mode a bit awkward. Also there is no NFC chip. The software (Jan-18) is Android 7 and EMUI 5. Boots quickly at least it does when new. Apparently big H make their version of Android a lot like the Apple but I gather this is better (less dumbed down) now in version 5 of the EMUI than it was before. Seasoned Android users will want to enable the app drawer as soon as they get it. Chromecast is not supported in the OS - but this is OK provided your chosen video/music/WE app supports it directly. Found it fits in the the Amour Wear 8 inch case.

Amazing value tablet I got this for drawing and to use Social media. It's a medium sized tablet which makes it more portable than an iPad, I never had any problems with it until it required special positions to charge, we bought to a repair shop and found out the battery was going in it. I've had it for almost 3 years before the battery went. Very good tablet but parts may be hard to find since it is an older device. The camera quality is alright but the video quality was never too good. The glass on the m3 will easily get scratches and if you are getting one get a screen protector, I never had one for mine but it is recommended. The battery is decent and charges quickly. I never used it much for gaming but when I did play Minecraft it was able to handle most of it only lagging when you spawned a hundred chickens. For drawing it is amazing, I used Ibis paint and have made lots of artworks that I am proud off. I've switched to an Samsung Galaxy Tab A but I still miss my Huawei M3 Would recommend as well

Performance wise, it is great. Good unboxing experience, feels solid, looks very sturdy yet it is light. 1600x2560 resolution is brilliant on such small screen! That's the bright side. Now into bit more of this tablet: Much bloatware. Half of it CAN be uninstalled, other half CANNOT. Android is nowhere near stock. It came with Android 6.0 (emui 4.1) and security patch is as old as December 2016. Confirmed with Huawei support: no more updates available now. Android nougat is only RUMOURED (emui 5). Come on! Android O will be released pretty soon, and this isn't on Nougat yet?? The only way to get latest Android is through flashing custom ROM which = warranty void. Huawei's launcher is terrible. Luckily I bought Nova Launcher year ago, so that was, SLOWLY replaced. Why slowly? It took me a while to find out where are all the options, specifically looking for Launcher settings. After 30 mins searching through everything, including Developer mode, I ended up looking online. Settings menu feels like the OS is on trial period and user needs to pay to unlock all features. A lot of stuff is missing, a lot of stuff is in weird places. Some misspellings here and there (e.g. notifications bar show AEROPLANE but in settings it is AIRPLANE). Language set to UK English. Huawei's keyboard is also poor, so I suggest a use of Google keyboard. Rear camera seems to take worse photos than the front one. Where is logic? Apparently both are 8MP... Navigation is hard to get used to. Battery keeps pretty well. Over 6h of video playback at 70% brightness and still fair bit of juice left. But once everything is set up, it is pretty good device. Just pain in the *** to get everything sorted out and get used to it. PS: this is my opinion after ~10h of usage. Yes, I am a kind of geek, therefore I know what I deal with. Roughly. 3 stars for great hardware but terribly bad and unfinished software. Stock Android would be far better than what Huawei done to this. Ended up sending for a refund. After experiencing official "support" of Huawei, I decided it is not worth it. No issues getting OS info, but anything else was a black magic for them.

This is fantastic. I was replacing a Nexus 7 android, which I loved, but which really couldn't keep up with me any more. This Huawei is great. The display is nice and clear, and plays films and media well. The speakers on either side of the tablet give good sound quality. A big plus was that I could automatically port over all of my apps by syncing it with the Nexus, which saved no end of fuss. A great tablet, perfect for what I need, and a great price. I don't play fast moving games, so can't comment on that, but it gives excellent performance for swipe and touch games like candy crush.

Great machine as everybody says based on first days use. However beware that this model DOES NOT HAVE SIM SLOT there is another version for same price which does. I will have to return this and order the phone enabled version from amazon. Not a big problem with one day delivery I hope but slightly disappointing.

I purchased this to replace a Nexus10 which has battery issues and is getting a bit old now. On paper, this is a great product with a high spec. I expected it to perform better than the nexus10 it was replacing, and better than my Oneplus-X phone so I am very surprised to find that it doesnt! Not only is my phone better, but my 5+ year old Nexus10 is better! I accept that the form factor doesn't work too well for web. 16:9 in an 8" screen isn't enough width in portrait and is too flat in landscape. I can't complain about that. I guess it is why everyone seems to be copying Apple with their 4:3 ratio. I don't find the same issue with a 10" screen though. 16:9 works well at that size, IMO. I chose a 16:9 screen specifically to play digital pinball on the device, and it is here that the performance issues are most obvious. The screen update on a moving image is woeful. I havent been able to calculate the FPS, but it is in the range of 20-30 I reckon. In contrast, all other devices I have tried are better. Even a kindle fire HD6 from a couple of years ago works better -just. It is possible that the chipset is not as optimized in the application I am running, i guess. But it feels sluggish in other operations too. Coming out of screen lock can result in an unresponsive screen for a brief second. and scrolling through content is fine most of the time but occasionally seems to be pausing to think about things. My gut feeling is that the EMUI ROM is causing the issues and that the HW would perform better if it was on plain Android. If I find a way to load vanilla Android on and test it, I will update this review.
