Derwent Charcoal Drawing Pencils Set of 6 with Sharpener Sketching Kit

These are without doubt some of the finest charcoal pencils available. They lay down beautifully smoothly gliding onto the paper. With a sturdy feel in the hand they are easy to use and are lovely to draw with. The grading system and inclusion of a grey and white colours make this a versatile set that is value for money. They lift well with a kneadable eraser too. All in all, a high quality set.

First things first. These are amazing for drawing with, i love them and will buy them again. Absolutely fantastic tondraw with My issue is they come with a sharpener thats useless. The charcoal pencils are ok to sharpen to begin with but once you get into the pencil a bit, its not sharpening, its breaking off in the sharpener. So i will buy a better sharpener to see if this is a sharpening problem or a pencil fault but its an awful waste of pencil when the charocal keeps breaking and getting stuck

Really nice charcoal pencils. They come with a handy sharpener which I’ve found sharpens the pencils very well. I love the handy tin the pencils come in. Makes they very easy to throw in a bag and take with you for drawing out and about.

I've used Derwent pastels and charcoal before and they have always been of an exceptional quality and are most certainly my favourite brand to get for a high quality final piece. The charcoal being in pencil form definitely helps for a more comfortable and less messy feel and obviously much harder to accidentally break in your hand! I haven't ever bought sketching materials online before and I was concerned that during transport the charcoal inside would break how wrong I was - the pencils themselves were in a tin which was placed in its packaging which was wrapped in corrugated card which was then covered in a mass of bubble wrap and was final wrapped in its brown paper and cello tape!!!! I think even if it dropped of the back of a lorry and run over by the car behind, they'd still be intact!!

Have now used the pencils, and have no complaint with them; however, the sharpener is another matter - you would expect the supplied sharpener to at least FIT the pencils; but they just get jammed in it, and don't do anything like a proper job of sharpening them. Please look into this!

See...ignore the other reviews,these are amazing and they aren’t rough nor scratchy they are solid pure charcoal better quality than generals.if you know what polychromos coloured pencils are,they are similar in the sense that prismacolor premier coloured pencils are amazing but the build quality is bad,and polychromos are better made and have better quality leads but a bit hard to use compared to prismacolors similarly generals can be compared to prismacolors and derwents as polychromos.
