I love this pencil
I have been a huge fan of Rotring since I first purchased a Tikky 2. They were simple to use, and great for those of us who prefer writing in pencil! I used the Tikkys for a while before taking the plunge and buying a Rapid Pro in chrome. That is a great pencil but I actually would now say save your money and get a 500 instead! The plastic body makes the pencil a little less straining on the hand (especially if using it for maths problems like I do) than the full metal Rapid Pro or 600 but still retains the quality feel. It looks and feels fantastic. The slight downside is that you don't get the cushioned lead so it is a little more prone to lead breaks, for that reason I went for the 0.7mm instead of the 0.5mm.If you're buying a pencil for sketching or notes, or something where you have time to take a bit of care then the 600 or Rapid Pro is a great choice. If you want something you could write frenetically, for hours, with then go for this. You won't be disappointed.

Great pencil
This is a great pencil. I started using mechanical pencils a few months a go and now use them for everything and don't even carry a pen with me anymore. This pencil is very well weighted with the metal grip and plastic body allowing me to uses it for hours straight with out any fatigue. the mechanism for pushing the lead out is the best i have used in any pencil, and its easy to refill. The twisty bit at the top is a nice addition, especially if you have multiple of these pencils with different types of leads (HB, 2B, F and whatnot). The only problem I've had with it is the lead it came with. its was to gray and it didn't produce writing with good contrast, but that was easily fixed with some Pental super lead.I totally recommend this pencil who is going to be lots of writing for multiple hours with out much break in between.

Comfortable weight
Having had some cheaper pencils that always end up breaking I thought it sound to buy a metal pencil.

The best
This is the best mechanical pencil I've ever used, I went with the 500 model because of the plastic parts being a lighter than the brass parts. I read that the lightness made this model easier to use long-term. I like this brand and pencil so much I would definitely invest into the more expensive higher quality versions

Good value from Rotring.
I use other Rotring pencils 800, Rapid Pro and numerous 600’s in different lead sizes and HB and 2B.I elected to try their 500 series and happy to say these are an excellent choice if you don’t want to spend 2 or 3 times the cost of the 500.

Awesome pencil to write with!
Metal grip feels so good! It keeps the center of mass towards the writing surface which allows for a lighter grip during those long days. Best pencil in its price range!

A Superb Instrument
First off I feel it’s best to address the materials for this pencils construction. This Rotring 500 is both metal and plastic. Plastic being the barrel, clip, and push cap. The end between the barrel and push cap, the very tip an grip; being all metal. Now I’ve seen plenty of talk about hybrids like this, or anything that isn’t all metal being trash. However I’ve used all types and from personal experience the construction doesn’t really matter as much as certain critics would make it seem.Only way construction becomes an issue is if it was made poorly that it doesn’t function right and can’t handle the load of work put towards it despite being properly taken care of.Really it just comes down to preference and what feels more comfortable.Full plastic is cheaper and serviceable enough like the hybrid or full metal variants. But through experience my preference leans more towards the hybrid and full metal; simply cause I find myself liking metal grips better then rubber/plastic, and the weight feels nicer in the hand when drawing. That out of the way, let us get to the pencil itself. As said this is a hybrid, it has a nice balance of light and heavy between the plastic barrel and its metal ends. The grip is nice and has a good length of it, compared to my other brand pencils that have lesser length in grip.End part that is twistable to highlight what grade of lead your using, is a nice novelty.Discharge of the lead is smooth and doesn’t have any jamming. It’s a very comfortable pencil that was built well to work. I like this Rotring over my Staedtler, Faber Castell, and Pentel pencils.I would say the hype is real for this brand and is one I’ll likely buy from more of in the future should I need another pencil or replacement.

Great writing experience - using for Math Homework
Wasn't sure which rOtring to buy but settled on the 500 because of the plastic body. I didn't want something too heavy. I was worried it would feel cheap but that's not the case. This is a quality mechanical pencil and it's been great for Linear Algebra.
