How many players is this game made for?

As confirmed by my illustrious forebears, 2-4 players with a recommended age of 15+

Does this come with a real portal gun?

Sadly no haha...Mine didn't anyway

What age is this suitable for? a clever Is 8 too young?

If he is OK with tactical games he will be fine. It is very kill and be killed by the other players every turn so if he is ok with that too he will be fine. The hardest thing about this game was reading the instructions! But once you get to grips with it, it's quit fun. My son was 9 when I got this game, he is into warhammer, chess, (we play a lot of different board games that adults and kids can enjoy) and he enjoyed this game.Hope that helps.
