A worthy successor to Carey
I was very wary coming to this. After all, who on earth thinks they can surpass Mike Carey's take on Lucifer. Remember though, that Carey took over the character from Gaiman's sandman series - itself a bit of a gamble that could have gone disastrously wrong.Holly Black pulls it off nicely though. Lucifer is the same old Lucifer, and yet at the same time there's something a little different about him. The story is combined with great artwork.Well done Holly and Lee!

“The Devil, you say!”
The first six issues of the new Lucifer series from Vertigo are collected in this volume. There is an opening 5-part story which reintroduces everyone, sorts out what has been happening since the last series, and pointedly ignores the ongoing TV series. The sixth issue is a sort of stand-alone story that introduces a new character who will obviously be a big player in the ongoing story. The opening story, as I said, reintroduces everyone, reminds us about past continuity, and shows us the current state of affairs in Heaven, as well as in Hell (and the Dreaming): someone has assassinated God, Lucifer is in the frame (pun intended), and so he sets out to discover who did it, which provides us with a guided tour and the opportunity for reintroductions - even Goldie gets a look in. There are a couple of new humans introduced, who may become ongoing characters. This story really does reach all the parts of the old Vertigo universe that kept us reading comics in the 1970s and 80s, and it all feels just right - there is no feeling of discontinuity or dissonance, though the Sandman seems to be just as big an influence as the old Lucifer series. However, this is not just going over old ground; it does feel like there is something new being added to the old, old story, and I am happy to go along for the ride.

Have you ever noticed read previous lucifer miss black???
Not great, huge inconsistencies from Mike Careys previous books, Holly seems to have forgotten that morpheus is dead and the mantle of dream of the endless has been passed on to Daniel she also has mathew cable as dreams raven, this has been rushed by a hugely inferior writer with minimal effort and imagination and one eye on their bank account, avoid please!!!
