Lovely set of beginner nibs for dip pen noobies like me. I bought it for the drawing nib, but have using the general nib primarily since it holds a longer line and its thickness is quite charming. All are very scratchy, and the copperplate not as flexible as would be thought. These would definitely require smooth paper or bristol board. There are two pen holders, one for the drawing nib and one for the rest. Don't be silly like me as to how to assemble the nibs inside the holder, they fit inside the holder by its curve so they sit flush (it's a tight fit, especially since the item's new), like spoons, not between the 4 claws inside like a prong. Sounds confusing but you'll see.The tin is vintage cute though little care has been made to centre the label, tis a bit mass produced.

good quality nibs in a range of sizes, however the nib -holders themselves aren't the best quality. the smaller nib holder in completely wooden with a small whole bored to fit the small circular base nibs. The hole wasn't quite large enough in my set, so i couldn't fit one of the nibs in until i widened the bore with a screwdriver. The larger nib holder (which fits the remaining 3 nib tips) is plastic with a meal 4 clip-binder bore. conversely to the small nib holder, the larger holder held the nibs in too loosely at first (and so they would fall out if I wasn't careful). after some tweezer and plier DIY this large holder is a bit more reliable.

This is not really a beginner's set. Smaller nibs are scratchy if used on less-than-perfect paper, and the best nib in the set IMHO, the wonderful 33, is VERY soft and gentle, but gives wonderful line variation and smooth but sturdy and original look.There are also two pretty good drawing nibs that should work well for most users, including beginners, but the ones who will benefit most from this very good set are artists who are more experienced with pen/ink drawing.Overall, I think this is an almost perfect set for artists, and a very good (although maybe a bit ambitious) set for students.

the nib holder could be improved

Great mix of nibs, a couple are a bit scratchy on paper but I'm using them to draw with and I suspect some are more suitable for writing with.

This set is very convenient for the price , infact you get two high quality Nibs Holder very solid , well made and beautifull in the appearance and 5 nibs.The nibs are good quality , soft and elastic , the feel on the paper is a little strange on the start but with a good ink you get perfect line easily.The nibs set is perfect for an illustrator that work on detailed illustrations and wants precision and control.Recommended to all.

Nice holders and lovely vintage look tin, but I found all but one of the nibs too scratchy to actually write with. They were so sharp they only went one way on the paper...

Perfect. Replacement for ancient pens for which I can no longer obtain new nibs.
