It is OKAY for the kids.
Add an AA battery and it works. There is an on-off slider switch on the bottom of the clock. The instructions are pretty good and the kids on the chess team figure it out quicker than I can. I asked the kids if they prefer analog or electronic. I got a blank stare. These are young players. Maybe they haven't seen an analog clock before..... I did not ask that....

wast of money if you purchase
This chess timer is the worst timer I ever had, first off all after two weeks it stoped working, everytime I turned on and off it started blinking or turned to time set before, specially in the middle of a game. secondly the instruction manual really sucks, very hard to understand and to setup the timer. It is not worth a penny to be honest with you.

Great Purchase for me
I honestly bought this because it was cheaper in price. It is all plastic, it is not a show piece, but I’m VERY happy with it. The touch is solid and there is a good resistance to the button and an audible click that gives good feedback.I will be able to use this for awhile and the only reason I would replace this is for something that “looks” nicer.But I’m happy and it even comes with a carrying case.

AWESOME TIMER
If you're looking for a reliable chess timer, this could be the one. It's a little tricky to figure out the first few times, but once you get the hang of it, it's super easy to use. We've played dozens of games of chess so far with this little timer right next to the board. Recommended for any serious chess player.

Works great
Takes a few minutes to figure out how to change the timer to count down instead, but once you figure it out, it's easy enough and always restarts at the same time on both clocks. For example, if you like 20 min games, when you turn the timer off and back on, it defaults to 20 mins again. The rocker switch is solid and the display is clear.
