Noctua NH-D15S, Quiet High-Performance Dual Tower CPU Cooler

Cooling a ryzen 7 3700 with this, which it does a decent job of. Not a cheap item, but cheaper than water cooling (without the possibility of water leaks), and more effective than a lot of air coolers out there. The stock cooler that comes with the 3700 is honestly not bad, but this knocks off a few more degrees - and every little helps. It's as easy to fit as any other large air cooler. Fit it before mounting the board in the case, take your time, and follow the instructions. Fiddly but quite straightforward. Noise levels really depend on fan profiles, overclocking etc. I don't faff around with overclocking, and sticking with the motherboard default fan profiles, the cooler is quiet. Not silent, but not far off. The kit comes with extra clips to mount another fan - which i did. No big change to noise levels, but does help with cooling performance - not hugely, but i had the fan already, so why not. Excellent build quality, and has a decent track record. If you're after a big air cooler, then you can't go far wrong. However, do measure your case internals for adequate clearance. When i said 'big air cooler', i wasn't kidding. My case cover has some sound proofing on the inside - had to remove a patch of it in order to fit. Not a big job, but bear in mind - this sucker is big.

I can't fault it, the main points I love about this cooler: Noctua Securifirm mounting system is a breath of fresh air (pun intended) for mounting. It's really easy to install. The included fan is one of the best of its class in airflow/noise ratio. The cooling capability rivals many 240MM or larger AIO liquid coolers if you are radiator limited. It comes with excellent thermal paste and lots of accessories including clips for a second fan. It has excellent clearance of RAM and top-slot PCI-E, for boards with those closest the socket. You only really need the one fan as the radiator is so big it will handle any mainstream processor heat output. If you are overclocking I would still look for a liquid cooler because water flow is still better than heatpipes if you are thermal transfer limited. However, for situations where the heat plateaus and the radiator is the limit this is a silent, extremely reliable, fail-safe alternative to the biggest liquid coolers on the market. Noctua quality is as always, excellent. I am running this cooler on a Ryzen 9 3900XT 12-core processor for distributed computing 24/7. The processor runs at 3.6 GHz at 1.0V on all 12 cores and is under 100% load 24/7. The temperatures range from the high 40s to the mid/low 50s, which is excellent at low noise levels. The temperature variation is due to the ambient temperature in my room. I tried some overclocking on this, and the cooler is capable of handling the 3900XT with advanced PBO to 170W with no issues, keeping the processor under 70C in heavy stress like rendering, at 4.1 - 4.2 GHz all core with PBO. The highest I managed on my 3900XT was 4.2 GHz all core at 1.25V and the D15S handles it well with peaks in the low 70s with 170-180W power consumption in heavy load. Ryzen 3000 uses 7nm chiplets so heat density is higher, this cooler would do even better with the older 2000 series due to larger manufacturing process, or Intel's 14nm processors. Overall, you can't really get a better large air cooler than this when you weigh up all things. Recommended.

This is an absolutely awesome cooler!. I was running a stock AMD cooler (with ageing quad core FX cpu) and regularly experienced idling temps of 45C. Heavy load would take it up above 60 and it sounded like a jet engine! Make no mistake, this cooler is HUGE taking up most of the space between the top of the motherboard (micro-ATX) and the graphics card.However in terms of height, it fits easily into my case (which is 210mm width) and there is still loads of room for RAM with even the tallest of heat spreaders. Fitting is a doddle and for AMD at least, makes use of the standard back bracket (which I didn't have to access) which it screws right into courtesy of a couple of adapter brackets. Bear in mind that you have to remove the cooler fan to attach the cooler to your mobo, but it really is no hassle to do so with a couple of quick release clips. So, a quick application of the supplied thermal paste, line up the cooler with the 2 adapter screws and tighten with the screwdriver provided. Re-attach the cooler fan and plug into the mobo and you're finished.The trickiest part of the whole process was actually removing the stock cooler from the CPU as it was practically welded to it with thermal paste . . .few scary moments but thankfully no harm done!. I have to admit I was sceptical as to how much difference in temp it would make and got it more for the promise of noise reduction, but I was amazed on firing up and opening the HW monitor that the first temp posted was 13C!!! - it actually went down to 5C before stabilising at around 19C . . .and this all in an old style case (PSU at the top) and only ONE rear case fan! Time to test it under load so I used a program called IntelBurntest (I know!) and ran the CPU at full load over a series of 10 short 1 min tests . . . Max temp achieved was 43C - amazing! I then tested it with Battlefield 1 (which made my previous cooler scream) and it got up to 41C before quickly cooling back down to 29C within seconds. The CPU is now happily sitting at 24C with minimal load. . .only a few degrees above ambient temperature. I can't recommend this cooler enough . . . yes it is pricey, yes it is HUGE, but you get what you pay for (and it is beautifully engineered and happens to look pretty good too). Having toyed with the idea of an AIO liquid cooler, I am so glad I opted for this instead . . .the near silence is priceless for me and no chance of leaks or fried motherboard/components! I can easily see me taking this cooler with me when the time for the inevitable system upgrade comes. To top it this cooler arrived promptly and within 1hr of delivery I had it fitted and up and running.

Can feel the heat transference at on the side of the case, a reflection that the heat dissipation is working dam well! Install instructions were very clear and quality of product clearly shines through. ( just remember it has parts for both architectures ) Not much on observing metrics for this review, but confident in the heat management with appropriate airflow.

I installed this to cool an overclocked Ryzen 1700 on an MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard, replacing the stock AMD Wraith HSF. A note - if you plan on doing the same, you will need an additional bracket for AM4 type motherboard mounting, which you can receive for free from noctua if you follow the instructions in the manual to do so, or you can buy one also on amazon or elsewhere. Temperatures at idle dropped by a staggering 15-20 degrees, and under load? Again, 15-20 degrees cooler than the stock Wraith cooler. And this is in a fairly small mid tower case to boot! As if that wasn't great enough, the noctua is also much, MUCH quieter - the excellent fan rarely needs to spin up by comparison, and when it does, it's still whisper-quiet. As far as clearance goes, you can see the indentations made to accommodate for RAM when looking at the unit, but to my surprise the height of the unit is such that these weren't even close to needed - there's no 'down to the wire' for RAM clearance with this, I suspect, unless you maybe have truly colossal sticks. In short: -Performance is incredible -Noise levels are phenomenally low, and a pleasant type that's non grating -Brilliant design that lets the huge thing fit where you might not expect it to

Really like this cooler - came with complimentary thermal paste and a screwdriver for installation. The process of installation was a bit of a faff in my case as I had already screwed in the motherboard and the heat sink was so big it was hard to get my hand past it to plug in the fan power cable! It took a good 20 minutes and was tricky to get the spring loaded screws aligned - the screw driver was also a bit too short to easily turn it one handed with the other hand holding it in place. With that nit picking aside, this in amazing cooler for a great price. It keeps your temps low even on my 9700k and does so without much noise at all. Most benchmarks see it match or beat AIOs of double the price - worth a buy without mistake.

I live in Britain - We are unlikely to see as many as 20 days in a year when a water cooled system might conceivably be needed - unless you always run your system overclocked to the max all the time! I recently bought all the components I thought that I needed to build a reasonably priced Intel i7 13th series computer from a well known e merchant. A good firm that I trust, I have used them in the past, a will do so again. They do not stock Noctua Coolers. I opted for a cooler from a different manufacturer. No tools were supplied in the package. It had a rather complex mounting system - a small Phillips screw through the backplate & MB, A knurled threaded riser and fibre washer (x4), then the top plate with a knurled and slotted capping nut holding it down. This nut is reminiscent of the old Victorian nuts used to attach handles to saws! To actually secure this contraption to the motherboard requires the use of a Victorian notched screwdriver. However, although I do posses such an arcane device, I assumed, in my innocence, that the whole assembly was expected to fit without the head of the screw protruding through the nut! Two small hexagonal risers are then screwed into each side of the top plate, and two tiny nuts hold the cooler in place. After Windows and fan controls were installed, the system would run at 45 degrees C, but in the bios it would rapidly rise to 75C+. So I searched for a possible Noctua solution. It comes with a long L bar Phillips screwdriver , little clips to ensure the correct hole for your chosen PCU. Fitting kits for probably all current AMD & Intel processors. Apart from the fact that you have to remove the fan to secure the cooler to the processor, and then reinstall the fan; which is a bit of faff if you are replacing the cooler while everything is still installed inside a Micro ATX case; installation is a breeze. Oh, the core temperature hovers around 25C on idle. When I ran fan control in the bios, it dropped the fan starting temperature down 20C!

I was very nervous about installing this - having never built a PC before but it was remarkably easy, so don't be afraid of 'aving a go!' This is a beautiful piece of kit, both in form and in usage. No, its not got any flashy lights or spinning plates - but it is very well made, lovingly packaged and extremely good at what it does (and quiet to boot). Do note its huge! It just about fit in my mid-tier case, but really a full tower is probably a safer bet. Also note that this is for people really planning to thrash their machine! For 95% of gamers, a smaller, cheaper fan (Noctua NH-U12S is still overkill for most people I would say) will do the job and do it well. Otherwise if you are looking for one of the best air cooling CPU fans - you have the space and the budget - this is THE pick.

Ich habe meinen AMD FX-6300 auf 4200 MHz übertaktet. Der verbaute 90mm Cooler Master Lüfter ( Der orginale Arctic Lüfter lieferte nach 2 Jahren Dauerbetrieb kein Tachosignal mehr) auf einem ARCTIC Freezer 13 CO lief unter Volllast mit 2800 - 2900 Umdrehungen und hatte auserdem beim starten des PC Anlaufschwierigkeiten. Zwar brachte diese Kombination im AIDA64 Stresstest noch akzeptable CPU Temperaturen zustande, aber das war schon eine unangenehm laute Angelegenheit. So entschloss ich mich Nägel mit Köpfen zu machen und entschied mich zum Kauf des Noctua NH-D15S Verbaut wurde er auf einem Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 rev. 3.0 mit AMD FX-6300 OC auf 4200 MHz bei 1,26V. Gehäuse ist ein Antec Three Hundred mit 2 Lüftern. 1x NF-A14 oben, über das Mainbord gesteuert und den 3 stufig manuel regelbaren 12 cm orginal Lüfter an der Rückseite. Die Montage empfand ich als sehr einfach, da die orginal Backplat des Mainboards weiterverwendet wird und nur die beiden Kunstoffteile der Kühlerhalterung gegen 2 Montagebrücken mit Abstandshalter getauscht werden müssen. Zudem ist für jeden Sockeltyp eine gute Anleitung beigelegt. Weder zur Grafikkarte noch bei den Speichermodulen gibt es Platzprobleme. Unter Volllast bleibt nun die CPU erstaunlich kühl. Dabei hört man nur ein leises Säuseln. Wenn man bedenkt das der Lüfter bis zu 1500 U/min kann und jetzt nur selten 900 U/min erreicht ist noch viel Reserve vorhanden. Auserdem kann man jederzeit, dank der zusätzlich mitgelieferten Klammern, einen 2 Lüfter anbauen. Positiv: Gute Verarbeitung Viel Zubehör wie Low-Noise Adapter, Lüfterklammern für zweiten Lüfter, gute Wärmeleitpaste, bebilderte Einbauanleitungen für versch. Sockeltypen. Super Kühlleistung. 6 Jahre Garantie. Negativ: Ich kann leider nichts negatives berichten, außer vielleicht der relativ hohe Preis. Auf dem Screenshot ist gut zu erkennen das der Kühler mit meinem System leichtes Spiel hat. Trotz 4,2 GHz Takt und Volllast unter Boinc auf allen 6 Kernen. Erst wenn zusätzlich die Sapphire Radeon HD7870 XT Boost Grafikkarte, übertaktet auf 1025 MHz, Vollast fährt, steigt die CPU Temperatur auf um die 40° an. Im Sommer kann dann der Kühler zeigen was er kann. Dann herrschen hier im PC Zimmer gerne mal 30-32°, jetzt nur um die 20°.

I have a 13700k, which as you know, can be a pain to keep cool. After having a liquid cooler fail on me, I decided to switch to air cooler only, and this has not disappointed me. I have had this in my computer for 3 years now without any issue what so ever. I even bought a second one for my wife's computer. It cools well, is reliable, and has a good price.

Esperienza concreta... Inizialmente avevo preso un Enermax ETS-T50-AXE Processore Refrigeratore ed ho pensato che l'overclock su un 6800K fosse solo un miraggio se non con un dissipatore a liquido (che non volevo prendere per motivi di costo e rumore della pompa e ventole). Poi ho provato questo Noctua NH-D15S e devo dire solo WOW! La qualità costruttiva rispetto all'Enermax è nettamente superiore e le performance migliori sotto ogni punto di vista: - dai 12° ai 18° C in meno sotto stress - livelli rumore inferiore anche sotto carico (più piacevole quasi rumore bianco con una nota più bassa e non fastidiosa) ed assenza di strane vibrazioni - materiali eccellenti e montaggio super facile anche per neofiti - pasta termica inclusa di buona qualità - la velicità minima di rotazione davvero bassa, rumore praticamente impercettibile e quando sale sui 600-700 giri/min diventa udibile ma più che sopportabile anche tenedo il case sulla scrivania a 40 cm dall'orecchio - anche la temperatura della vram è diminuita (che sulla x99 Asus strix arriva quasi ai 60° ! ) La ciliegina sulla torta è il badge adesivo inclusa nella confezione, si mi sono entusiasmato per un banale badge... la cosa sorprendente è che colpisce la sua fattura, è massiccio, ha un certo peso, smalto di qualità e molto accativante nel design... forse sarà la prima volta che userò un "sticker" perchè è davvero cool. Ovviamente se il dissipatore non fosse pura eccellenza non ci avrei fatto caso. Non credo che per gli i5 o i7 quad core valga la pena spendere 80 euro per un dissipatore, ma per un 6 core 6800K è sicuramente un acquisto che vi renderà felici. Anche il vostro viaggio alla ricerca del "dissipatore perduto" può fermarsi qua. Lo avete trovato. grazie
