A very nice gardening tool for my elderly mother. . .
I bought this for my elderly mother, who previously was using something similar, but which was much shorter. . .and lighter. Being that she had knee replacement surgery, she now has a difficult time bending and isn't suppose to kneel much on that replaced knee either, so I decided to get this for her to try. . . At first impression, I thought this might be a little much on the heavy side for her, for it is a lot more hefty than what she had been using (weighs 3.8 lbs) and a little longer at almost 5 ft long (58. 5 inches). Surprisingly, though, she didn't have any problems with the weight nor the length, and it has worked well for her. In fact, she uses it all the time to weed and cultivate her flower beds, which she has in abundance. This weeding hoe is, like I mentioned, hefty and does seem to be made out of quality parts. The fiberglass handle is a bit thicker in diameter (1.25 inches) than other outdoor tools of similar size, and the hoe/cultivator head is of a thick metal--almost like cast iron. The width of both the hoe and cultivator end is about 3 1/8 inches. . .and the total length of the head is around 10 3/4 inches. The end of the handle is covered with a nice rubberized cap, which adds comfort and serves as a bumper if the tool happens to fall over and hit something. I do have one complaint, though, and it is with the riveted parts, which there are two of: The first is the chromed ferrule (silver part) which is riveted to the fiberglass handle; and the second is the hoe/weeder head, which is riveted to the chromed ferrule. My complaint is that where the chromed ferrule attaches to the handle isn't as snug as it should be, thus the end wiggles; a little. In time, this might pose a problem, might eventually wiggle enough to eventually damage where it connects to the handle. This might only be an issue with the one I got, but. . .maybe not. I hope this will last awhile for my mother. . .especially for the price I paid. Albeit a little more on the expensive side, this is a very nice garden tool; but because of the slightly loose end issue, I downgrade it to four stars. *Update* It's been five years since I bought this tool for my mother, and, to date, it's has held up well and is still in excellent condition; it's her favorite tool for working in her large flower gardens. It pulls up weeds easily with either end, almost as easily chops up small roots with the hoe end and the cultivator (rake end), loosens up soil with ease. Even though my mother is now 75 and has arthritis, she can still handle this tool without any difficulty. I posted a photo of her whacking weeds and loosening the soil. For those wondering. . .my mother is 5'4" (so one can get a good idea of the size of the tool in relation to a shorter person). The looser head has not of yet caused any issues, thus I am updating this to five stars. This really is an excellent tool.

Heavy duty
This weeding hoe is really well made. I just wish the handle wasn't so long.

A VERY sturdy, heavy-duty, and functional tool.
I've only had it for two days and I've already worked like hell with it ;) I do heavy manual landscaping work regularly, and had searched quite a bit for a tool like this, as similarly configured "weeding hoes" are made of much cheaper sheet metal and simply are no good for heavy-duty use. This, on the other hand, is like a quality Adze/Mattock with a longer, lighter, handle -- the head IS thick, solid, steel, as described, and there's no way it's going to bend, as noted cheaper ones always do, and the handle is a very good, practical length. While not "light", the tool isn't heavy or cumbersome to work with provided you are moderately fit, or know how to use it -- a full-sized mattock or axe feels much heavier than this tool does. While this isn't necessary, I took a mill bastard file to the hoe/mattock side to give it a slight edge -- a credit to the quality and thickness of the metal that i could do that, and without even a full swing, it does cut even tree roots (relative to their thickness) easily. I'm a huge advocate of "four-prong" style rakes/cultivators when doing heavy weeding/landscaping, and use the 3-prong side much like one can use a pitchfork -- for grasping, shaking the dirt out of, and moving weeds i've unrooted with the mattock/hoe side . It's good for breaking and combing soils as well. I would have preferred the feel of a wooden handle in my hands, but otherwise, this is a GOOD tool. It's worth the extra money as this one feels like it will last a lifetime.

Freight ChHarge Atrocious
Tool is heavy duty and high quality, but freight cost as much as the tool. Sadly could not find it locally.

Can Grandma use it?? A
This hoe/weeder has a narrower blade which makes it ideal for getting into smaller places where weeds go to escape typical hoes. I've used it to chop low-growing bushes and to uproot stubborn

Useful
I love working with this tool. I go along hoeing, then flip it over in and dig in. The head piece is just one piece so it is strong.

Gets into small spaces.
