KardiaMobile Personal EKG (ECG) Device and Heart Monitor - Single-Lead EKG Recording - Detect AFib - FDA-Cleared - by AliveCor, Pack of 1

Well, we all become complacent about our heart health until it becomes problematic. This is why I bought this device as given a recent discovery of an issue with my heart, I needed to monitor both my BP and whether there were any anomalies occurring with extra arterial or ventricular beats. I chose this device, as it was compact and reasonably priced. I received the device quickly, however the seals on the box were broken. This was reported back to AliveCor, who quickly despatched a replacement. IN THE BOX -------------- 1. The Kardia Device 2. Phone Attachment case with 3M Sticker to attach to your phone* 3. Free Trial Access to 30 days of the Premium service. The premium service costs £9.99 per month (or £99.99 per annum as a 20% discount is offered). 4. Instruction card to allow for quick set-up including registering your account with your personal details. * I am mentioning the phone attachment case, which is about £10, as I did not realise this, was included and nearly ordered it as well, so please note you get it included. Personally, I feel the case is probably the extra piece of kit that most would prefer to be included, as it offers the option of carrying the Kardia device with you, and using more securely on a table or desk, given the sensitivity to movement of the device. The case retails at about £24.99, which is quite expensive. HOW IT WORKS _______________ You simply download the app from the App Store and pair your Kardia device and phone via Bluetooth. ON-APP WELCOME SCREEN --------------------------------- There are currently the following sections for tracked data: - 1. Electrocardiogram (EKG) - History, Last recorded EKG and button to <Record your EKG> 2. SmartRhythm Monitoring (which requires an iWatch AND Premium service to utilise). 2. Blood Pressure (History + ability to add blood pressure readings at your will) 3. Resting Heart Rate (History + add Resting Heart Rate - but this is a premium feature) 4. Weight (ability to add your weight) 5. Medication (Ability to add your medications and monitor how these impact on your heart health - but this is a Premium Feature!) 6. Insights (Premium Feature??) PROS ------- 1. This device is compact and simple to use. 2. Easy to take a reading on the go, and more importantly when these issues occur you are armed unlike when employing a device loaned from a hospital or cardiology service. 3. This kit is medical grade, which means it's accurate and your cardiologist will accept the results as being accurate. 4. EKG report instantaneously reports whether the reading is normal or not, and a graph is produced for download and retention. 5. Can be linked directly to your doctor or cardiologist via a code. 6. You can request a comprehensive analysis by a cardiologist of any reading at the click of a button on-screen and at a cost of £5.00. 7. Notes and voice recordings can be added to each EKG reading, so you can add symptoms, to provide a history or just to understand when you might have a future issue. 8. The cost is very reasonable for the accuracy and ability to run real-time EKGs for yourself. 9. There is a lot of additional information in the App, like Heart Education and access to external heart related resources/institutions. 10. The phone attachment is included, so the device can be clipped ono the back of your phone for use on the go. 11. The Colour-Coding of reports and data to show GREEN = Okay, YELLOW = Above Normal is a great and simple feature. 12. US customers can get the device replaced for $19.99 if lost/stolen with Premium Membership. CONS ------ 1. There should be a manual, even if small to explain the basic features. For example it is possible adjust the length of the EKG recording in the settings from 30 seconds to 1, 2, 3, 4, or even 5 minutes. 2. Many of the features are Premium, which means it becomes costly to access these services, like medication and resting heart rate. 3. The reports could be more detailed, especially given all the potential this device has and information collated. 4. Too sensitive to movement, as my cardiologist discounted some anomalies as slight movements. 5. I did one Clinician Review and it is returned as "UNACCEPTABLE- Baseline noise makes it difficult to do an accurate analysis; consider repeating study”. However, what noise does this refer to and why charge £5.00 if they state this? 6. Explanation of reports is too basic, and unless you have a little knowledge or real concern about symptoms, the device does not alert follow up. 7. There is no reduced price replacement device for Premium UK members! CONCLUSION ---------------- Well, overall this is a very handy device, which allows you to take charge of your health. However, I would say you do need to read up and learn a bit about EKGs also to understand how to read them yourself a bit, to accurately be able to monitor whether there is movement affecting the readings. The App could be much stronger, integrating the features and allowing a longer trial period. The 30-day trial period is not enough to understand all the features and evaluate the device's worth. Clearly, most are repeat customers if they gain value from something, and will have no qualms about investing in their heart health. I do think that a short manual would be ideal with this device, as there is a lot in the App and much to understand. You will note the Analysis Report above in the images states "no symptoms" but I do not always note the symptoms, as I want to see whether the report will come back with an issue. I did not realise that written notes could be added later. The phone attachment although seemingly good to allow access to the App on the go, may be problematic. It is perhaps better to be sat at a desk with the device flat, rather than in the air where movement can affect the readings. Personally, I would have preferred the snap-shut case to carry with me, rather than the phone attachment, which is not so easy to remove the device from. RECOMMENDATION ----------------------- Well, having learned a bit about how to read EKGs, I do have peace of mind about my heart. This device is worth the price, especially as it is medical grade to know your heart is functioning properly!!!

I was interested in this product when I first saw it on Amazon but I was put off by the list of compatible phones. I tried looking online, including the Amazon list, but found no information about my own phone. Eventually I took a gamble and discovered that my Samsung A12 is highly compatible, as I assume would be most of the newer Samsung phones. I ordered and it was delivered the next day. It is small, easily portable in my shirt pocket (or any other) and the case I also bought protects it nicely. The Kardia app is easily downloadable and simple to install. After installing just follow the onscreen instructions to use the device. My readings and the resulting comments are easily saved on my phone and/or sent to my any e-mail address I choose. I send them to myself mostly but can if I wish send them straight to my GP or cardiologist. There is also the facility to take another person's readings without them getting mixed up with my own, and to send them onwards to wherever they need go. However I would suggest that any new user plays with it for a while and finds a position where they can sit quietly, comfortably and still while the reading is taken. Until I found 'my place' the readings were distorted by muscle noise and slight movements: after I found it they are mostly just like the normal readings seen in text books. Now I am looking forward to my next AF episode to see what it shows and tells me then....or am I mad to wish that upon myself? But I recommend this product as strongly as my cardiologist recommended it to me.

Kardia Mobile was recommended to me by my cardiologist. It's not yet available on the NHS, but at £99 it's a no-brainer for diagnosing and managing paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (AF). It arrived quickly and works brilliantly. The hardware communicates with the app flawlessly and the app itself is very simple to use. I needed to buy a new phone case because my old armoured case wasn't totally flat on the back. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and went for a JETech case which is perfect for sticking the attachment plate to. I also bought a Gorilla Glass screen protector so I could put the phone face down as I don't want to damage the ECG pads. I'm currently on the free trial of the premium service but will settle for the free basic service after 30 days. As long as I can save the trace as a PDF and email it to my cardiologist I'm happy. In a follow-up with my GP it turned out that she'd just been on an AF course and the surgery was about to be sent one to trial, so I ended up giving the GP and nurse a demo! Update (26/11/2017): Yesterday evening was my first AF episode since buying Kardia Mobile. The app had no trouble capturing the ECG many times during the 3 hours it lasted, and each time diagnosed AF at between 135 and 165 bpm. My free trial of the premium service has now ended, so on the basic free service you need to choose to save each one, but it's easy to save a PDF (either attach to an email or, as I did, save to Google Drive). My only criticism is that the 'Email EKG' button should really be called 'Share EKG' given the number of options available. I'll be calling my cardiologist on Monday and emailing him the files, so I'll post another update when I get his feedback. Update (6/12/2017): My cardiologist agreed with the Kardia Mobile diagnosis based on the emailed traces. I'm now waiting for an appointment to discuss treatment. Without Kardia Mobile I would still be undiagnosed... Update (3/6/2018): Everything is still working like new and the ECG pads don't seem to have suffered any wear. I've had one further AF episode, and again Kardia Mobile worked perfectly. I've had several cardiology appointments since my last update, including an echocardiogram to check the structure of my heart. I've now been prescribed Flecainide, to take when I have an episode. Update (3/9/2018): The battery ran out last week after 10 months. Not as good as described but not the end of the world (at least the batteries are cheap). I don't use it very often so I guess I'm activating it by holding my phone which drains the battery. The biggest problem was removing the battery compartment. It's very stiff, and despite being really careful both little clips snapped off when I removed it. I emailed AliveCor and they responded very quickly by sending a replacement battery compartment (and a spare). Great customer service! It still seemed a lot stiffer when refitting than the AliveCor video suggests so we'll have to see what happens in next time the battery needs replacing...

I already have a small portable ECG/EKG device and it works well, picking up tachycardia and bradycardia. The reason I bought the AliveCor device is that it also detects atrial fibrillation, with which my wife has just been diagnosed. It arrived within 24 hours on Prime. It is smaller than the other device I have, but it links directly to the iPhone, which my other one doesn’t (the latest version of that one does though). Setting up the account is easy. We both want to use it so we set up two accounts though the main benefit of that is that reports are correctly annotated. We won’t be paying a subscription so all records are deleted from the app on each sign out. I keep the ECGs by mailing them to me from the History part of the app before closing it down. They come out as PDFs and can then be stored on a laptop. Main thing to note is that the device needs to be close alongside the phone, otherwise a reading simply isn’t taken. This confused us as we thought a couple of feet away would work. It doesn’t. Overall, a convenient device and not having a subscription is no problem for us. At the local NHS Arrhythmia Clinic they were very interested in my other monitor and asked me for full details. I will also tell them about this one. Recommended. Update: the downside to this monitor is the requirement to sign into the app to use it. Sometimes you want a quick ECG, and faffing around first before you can get the reading isn’t helpful. We wanted to get a reading just now and finally opted to use the original device we had, where you can get a reading, then sign into their app to download it. It is the difference between an ECG device having some intelligence and memory of its own, and having this simple finger pad that needs an external brain. So, not as highly recommended.

I’ve had one of these Kardia mobile 2-lead ECG devices by AliveCor for more than a year now. If, like me, you are looking at this product because you’ve had a health scare or heart-related symptoms such as palpitations or a possible arrhythmia, then this product will probably be a good buy for you. At around £100, this could, at the very least, save you a trip or two to A&E, just by placing a couple of fingers from each hand on the two sensors. A cardiologist told me that they want to perform an ECG as soon as possible after a symptom episode. The only problem is that this takes at least an hour if you go to a hospital. With this device, particularly if you stick it to the back of your phone case and carry it around with you, it can literally be seconds after symptoms start. I even managed to catch a few episodes while they were happening. I was then able to save these recordings to the app and later show the doctors. This was really priceless. The app is what you are really paying for here. I think you can get replacement sensors for about £30 if you buy direct from the manufacturer. Bear the importance of the app in mind if you are considering a cheaper alternative, although I’ve not tested any others as my GP recommended this one. The app’s algorithms for automatic interpretations seem pretty solid, although one irritation is that you don’t get an interpretation if you have tachycardia (100bpm or more). Hopefully, they will work on this in the future. I tried the premium subscription option (£10 per month) for the app for a few months when I first purchased it. It allowed constant heart rate recording on my Apple Watch, which was useful but it really messed up my activity monitoring, so bear this in mind. At the time, the premium option was the only way to save ECG recordings but doing so has now been free since November 2018. A good move in my opinion. There is a 6-lead version of the device coming out soon, which promises deeper interpretations, so I might well upgrade. Apparently, it can be used in either 2-lead or 6-lead mode, the latter needing to be in additional contact with the left leg. Overall, highly recommended!

Firstly, I should note that I am a medical doctor but I am not a cardiologist nor am I particularly experienced in heart disease. I was recommended this by a cardiologist friend because I was experiencing cardiac rhythm abnormalities. I have taken several (many!) recordings of my heart now. The device is really easy to use. I have attached it to an old iPhone 5 which had been gathering dust. I used the case designed for this. It was a neat and compact solution. And it means that I have an ECG by my bedside; most of my rhythm abnormalities seem to be at night. The recordings are a lead 1 ECG tracing. I was taught to read lead 2 tracings, so this is slightly different. However, it does show up the relevant waveform components and irregularities of rhythm. The tracing baseline seems to wander a bit more than a full-blown clinical ECG should (in my memory) but that might just be me... Overall, this is useful and is helping to progress with what might (or might not) be going on with my heart. Highly recommended as an affordable diagnostic aid!

UPDATE: 01/01/21 Well, I've given it a run while, while not having palputations and having palputations and what I can feel and what it records to what I feel and hear my heart doing is far from what it records. Major issue 1 It's a great pulse monitor but the sensors for detecting pulse pressure and tach'/arhyth' from touching 2 pads with your fingers I find lacking. Major issue 2 It has major sensitivity to any electronic equipment, it can even loose signal if you put the device ontop of your mobile nowhere near any electronic equipment. Issue 3 I still don't know why it wants access to the mobile microphone. Summary If you want piece of mind and something to look at to make you feel better when your having a panick attack then sure, but its expensive for that, a heart beat monitor which can evaluate tachycardia from pulse would do the same job. Your better off feeling your pulse on your left wrist, then you can assertain pulse pressure (weak/strong), speed and if your having palputations, which you would also feel and probably be able to hear in 1 or both of your ears anyway. This is just an expensive toy... FIRST PURCHASE REVIEW First impressions: 1. Went on google play store and found the app, downloaded it and installed it. 2. I had to register an account. 3. I then had to agree to terms and conditions and that they would be using any recorded app data (anonymously), if you believe that you will believe anything... 4. Then a full screen advert, buy our month subscription for just £9.99 per month and you get xx days free and some other BS which I didn't bother reading, I just went looking for the close button (X) 5. Got to what must be the home screen, lots of notifications, tapped on a lot of X's (close buttons) to clean the mess up and then found the record ECG button, tapped it. 6. It then asked me for access to my mobile's microphone? What your going to listen to my heart rate? Now why the hell do you want access to the mic? 7. Selected allowed microphone access for this time only. 8. First attempt was infront of my computer screen on the table with the touch pad thing actually sitting on my phone, but it failed, it said too much noise. (What is that microphone noise or signal from the external device lol) 9. Moved away from computer and tried it again, device still resting ontop of the mobile and it started recording for 30 seconds. Looked ok. Got some kind of graph going, bpm and I could download a PDF (A CSV option would have been good, guess they don't want people using their own recorded data). Downloaded this to mobile and then went back to mobile app, it pitches the subscription rubbish at me again. No not a chance. And what's this only 30 seconds recording time! 10. Found a cog icon top right, clicked it, found that I could adjust the recording time up to 5 minutes, but it only evaluates on the first 30 seconds (how convenient). Summary I bought this to record when I have heart palp's, I'm not having any at the moment so I don't know if the thing is accurate or not, when I do and try this thing out I will know and if I survive I will update this review. The PDF's will be adequate to store on my computer and put online for my doctor to review, but I would have liked a CSV of data recorded so that I could have put it through better analysis software. I really didn't like the fact that it shares your ECG data and as you have to register an account with email and verify that email, you can pretty much guarantee every time you use the device that data will be associated with that email account. I also don't like the way it tried to ram the monthly subscription rubbish down your throat every chance it gets, for the price of this thing it I expected more analysis and csv data download but it appears to do what I wanted which is to just ECG record my heart rhythm and bpm and graph it so I can show the doc. As for how accurate it is, I wont know till I use it when I get palputations next. NOTE: If you do allow it microphone access make sure you shut down the application from running in the background after use. It's your battery and privacy that you will save.

I purchased this as it was recommended by my gp as I was getting palpitations, he recommended when I got an episode to monitor it & I now no that I have Atrial fibulation ,it is very reliable & easy to use its an amazing piece of equipment & can easily be carried around in a small bag because you can record your reading on your phone .A great price as well.

I cannot recommend this enough for those with heart problems and their caregivers. The mobile app works well with our blood pressure monitor; listing the readings together is very helpful. This helped me to know the difference between symptom severity and was invaluable in providing the right information that made the decision to go to the hospital. Without it, I would have likely waited or hesitated because the symptoms seemed the same physically as other times that would settle down. This made it clear something was different and it was time to act. While in the ER the situation deteriorated rapidly and we were so thankful to be at the hospital to receive rapid treatment. If we weren't there, I don't know that it would have worked out. When managing heart disease and heart failure, it is difficult to know when you are over reacting and when those symptoms have progressed to requiring intervention. This device is an amazing invaluable tool that will help give confidence in either case. Very easy to set up and use. Pairing with an omron BP monitor is very easy and helpful. I haven't used the features for sharing with the cardiologist directly. It takes some use and practice with assessing the overall condition using all your tools and knowledge you quickly learn when a loved one is diagnosed. It doesn't say you are having a heart attack specifically, it will say 'possible atrial fibrillation' or other status results. This is just one tool in that assessment however, I believe it was the most important tool we have. We had only got it 2 weeks before.

L’AliveCor KardiaMobile 1L ECG è comodissimo: è così compatto che sta tranquillamente in una bustina e posso portarlo sempre con me senza nemmeno accorgermene. La cosa che ho apprezzato di più è la semplicità d’uso: si collega allo smartphone in pochi istanti e l’app è molto intuitiva, quindi in pochi secondi riesco a fare la registrazione senza stress. Anche chi non è particolarmente tecnologico (come me) non avrà problemi. Mi dà molta tranquillità sapere che i risultati sono precisi e chiari. Sentire di avere uno strumento affidabile a portata di mano fa davvero la differenza, soprattutto quando si vuole controllare il proprio cuore (ho le fibrillazioni attuali) con serenità.
