how come this UK V600 costs more than the american V600, UK price @ present exchange rate should be £114.31, not the £278.04 as is priced. the American Amazon price includes the same deal as the UK price.

You always get the same answers when you ask this question no matter what you buy in the UK vs USA. Oh, it's because of market forces and we sell more over there blah de blah. I am convinced that it is simply a case of they can get away with it.  Double the price - I DON'T THINK SO! 
Even Amazon themselves often have a cheaper price in the US, even paying postage from US to UK works out cheaper. Just ripping us off. If you want it you have to pay the price.

what are the main operational differances between the Epson V800 and the V850 Pro scanner?

I have the v850 and the main diff is ~- better silver fast software - double the amount of negative holders ( a extra set so as you are scanning you can get the next batch ready )- diff optics - have been using mine for nearly 1 year now and it works great

I want to be able to scan some old negatives that date from 1930s (2.25 x 3.25 inches) would the V600 be suitable?

Yes they would be fine to scan in. Even if you cannot place them into the negative holders you get with the device, you would still be able to scan in on there own no problem.

Question 4

I want to scan 6in x 4in photo and produce a photo print from it.  What is the maximum size print I can produce that'll retain the original quality?

Accepted Answer

The answer is 6x4 inches. You can't improve the resolution of the original when you scan it. However, you may be able to print to a larger size (up to A4) with only moderate loss in quality and by editing the image you may even improve its appearance if it is an old print (improve contrast/saturation/sharpening etc). But it can only ever have the original resolution.
