Great quality considering it's not real wood. It feels solid and similar in weight to real wood. Very quick and easy to assemble. Instructions indicate 50 minutes for two people, but it only took me 20-30 minutes solo. Assembly instructions are very simple and clear, with the exception of showing which direction the back panels should face when you slide them in (they are finished black on one side and unfinished on the other). Each board includes pegs that you insert by simply pushing into the designated hole (which holds the pieces into place so you can then insert and tighten the screws without anyone helping hold it together and which also provides extra support/strength once assembled) and screws that are very easy to tighten without the need for an electric drill. Some extra corner supports were included that you are supposed to install in the back, but it seemed unnecessary to me and located in a spot that wouldn't actually provide extra support. I did not install them, as I'm only using the shelves for shoes and nothing heavy. It is a great storage solution for shoes. The shelf height fits winter boots. The shelf width fits two pairs of shoes fit side by side (plus at least two more pairs stacked on top of those). If you take notice of the dimensions shown in the product description before purchasing, you won't be disappointed with the size. The color black looks good. I don't expect any chipping/peeling. I got this when it was on sale for $24.00, but would definitely purchase again at regular price.

UPDATE - I loved the first shelf I received that I ordered another - first 4 pictures are of the first shelf. What a disappointment the second shelf is :( The original shelf had all sides and both the top and bottom of shelves white in color, the second shelf - the back is brown and unpainted, the bottom of the shelfs are brown and unpainted and I'm not even sure they are the same color white. So much for receiving exactly the same shelf - I even did the "order again" option so it's not like I ordered a different product. It's to much of a hassle to take apart, rebox and send back. It still serves it's purpose, but isn't the same as the first one. Original review: Product arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It was not hard to put together at all - only tools needed were a rubber mallet and a Philips head screwdriver. I opened the box, took my time sorting and assembling and it still only took 1 hour - even with my "helper" dog assisting!!!!!! The shelf is the perfect size to place next to my small corner desk. I needed more space for "stuff" and it's perfect so far. If it falls apart or something dreadful happens I'll update!

I purchased this 5-tier bookshelf as a shoe rack for my small closet, and it has worked out perfectly. Honestly, for the price it is quite adequate. It's for a dorm room; if it lasts more than a year, I'll have gotten my money's worth. It was cut accurately enough that it went together easily. All the parts and fasteners were accounted for. And from a distance, the laminate surface doesn't look too bad at all. It's a kind of faux-distressed dark pine look. Blotchy enough to disguise its fakeness at first glance from across the room. So here's the bad. It's a bit wobbly and not very sturdy. The particle board is of the cheesiest variety, so if the screws were overtightened they could easily pull out. Even if the material were denser and the fastening stronger, though, there is not much in the design that prevents racking. The back panels, being all independent of each other and cut to fit easily, don't do a lot to keep it square. The little plastic angle brackets are too small and too flexible to do much. On the subject of the fastening, the holes for the screws are not countersunk at all, so the heads sit slightly proud of the sides (I guess you can't really countersink into such flimsy material). I haven't bothered to apply the little stickers that are supposed to camouflage them. What else... three of the shelves don't have laminate on both sides. If one were to look up at their undersides from the floor, one would see the particles of the particleboard. The sides and shelves are only about a centimeter thick or perhaps half an inch. That might work for the sides, but it makes for flimsy shelves. They are rated for 15 lbs each, which is probably enough for most of what we need it for--a few books, maybe a clock, a box of tissues. A bin with light things. I do suspect the shelves will warp under the weight of typical books, given a few months of duty. So in short, it's about what I expected, and I think it will be fine. In no way did it exceed my expectations.

when it arrived a couple of the backing pieces were damaged, which couldve been poor shipping, but there couldve also been more protection within the package. the parts were strangely dusty too lol, but no pieces were missing. the instructions were clear visually but had no words to guide you though (not that it was nessecary at all, just a heads up). the material is cheap because the tiny stickers to number each part can easily tear the texture layer off and the wood was just not very solid. the constuction went smoothly except the very end of attaching the two seperate parts to finish, where there was maybe a cm or two of space where they wouldnt touch due to the screws blocking them, though its not noticable unless you look fairly close. additionally, theres a good amount of storage, its fairly tall, but its very light and can definitely topple without extra security.
