Haven't tried it, but I doubt it would give a clean cut. You want a sharp flat edge for carpet, not serrated.

Can you pless tell me if this would this cut plastic?

It might be able to cut thin sheets, but probably nothing tougher than that as it's not a very tough tool and heavy plastic might blunt blade. The serrated edges work well on cardboard, a bit like a bread knife, but it's not as sturdy as maybe a handsaw/jigsaw which would be better for plastic.
