I just received the Scaredy-cut clippers yesterday (Wed, June 5th) and immediately set to work on my Maine Coon cat for about an hour; a challenge when your cat has 3-inch hair and a thick undercoat! BOTTOM LINE: I loved the idea (as did she) but didn't like the scissors itself very much. They seemed dull. I watched three demo videos on the how-to's so I know I was following the instructions as best as I could. And I tried the cuts using the longest 1" head on the clippers, meaning I had less hair per chop, so that should have made it even easier. I took very small tufts of fur to cut each time, yet it still typically took me 3-4 chops with the Scaredy-cut scissors to cut through the fur. When I used our older barber scissors with her fur, it cut through the fur and undercoat like butter; one cut easily did the job each time. This confirmed to me that these Scaredy-Cut scissors need to be sharper. It could be that my pair of Scardey-Cut scissors are just defective or that these scissors are not meant to be used on long-haired cats with thick undercoats... but since the most-helpful review and the company owner, Matthew, both have Maine Coons, and use Scaredy Cut with great success, I suspect the problem is either with how I'm cutting or this particular pair of scissors I'm using. Again, I think the idea is awesome as my Maine Coon is very skittish when it comes to noises, so electric clippers were out. And she purred the entire time, thinking she was getting a lengthy massage! I *AM* impressed by the company's quick and thoughtful responses to customer concerns. Within hours of posting this review, Matthew of Scaredy Cut had contacted me AND mailed me a replacement pair of scissors to try out. Now *that* is some impressive customer service! ************************************************** EDIT 22 March 2013: I've now had these scissors 9 months and used them to trim my Maine Coon's hair 3 times. Each time it gets a little easier and I'm faster at it. The secret is to have scissors that are tight (I had to have mine replaced) and to take my time. Cut small tufts at first and not too deep. Make more than one pass. Follow the video. It works. I cut her hair today down to the undercoat and evened out the fur and brushed her in less than an hour (this is on a VERY LARGE 14 lbs female cat!) ... and she looks pretty good. And that is taking her fur from 3 inches down to about 1/2 inch (except for her head, cowl and tail, which I didn't touch). BOTTOM LINE: They work and get the job done and my cat purrs the entire time. I will add that the scissors could be sharper, hence why the rating is only 4 star. They aren't barber-quality scissors and the thumb hole is too small for me. So I take my time and give my thumb a rest. But this is a LOT cheaper than taking the cat to a groomer, if she'd even allow it, which I doubt. My wish is this idea but with thin barber-quality scissors like we use to cut human hair, but that would seriously raise the price as such scissors are expensive. So for the money, THESE ARE GREAT! And EVERY email or inquiry is answered quickly. They bend over backwards to make you happy. Let me start by saying that I've groomed my own dogs for two years (two miniature schnauzers), so I'm definitely not a beginner. The standard schnauzer cut has a short trim (10 blade) on the body and privates, and longer fur on the legs and stomach. I've used both large corded trimmers and my favorite small battery trimmer, and there's no way that these scissors could cut hair that short. Regardless, I didn't purchase them to cut my schnauzer's bodies, but I thought it may be important information to others. I purchased these scissors to do the legs of my schnauzers. I typically like to keep them long, yet shorter than most schnauzers since my dogs are very active and it's a hassle to pick sticks out of their fur 5 times a day. I was looking for something to help me trim their legs to a standard length and keep the length relatively even. Typically, schnauzer legs are cut with scissors by a skilled groomer into the perfect length of round fluffy legs. I'm not a professional groomer so I struggle to maintain an even length. After using the Scaredy Cut scissors, I WAS left with the even length fur in most places, and it did look less choppy than when I do it myself with scissors. The scaredy cut, however, shouldn't be your only grooming tool because I still had to use my rounded grooming scissors to trim pieces that the scaredy cut couldn't get. In particular, the scaredy cut is quite useless around the feet as well as where the legs meet the body. It's just not possible to get into those small areas with the large awkward tip of the scissors. I can see where this would be a valuable tool if your dog fears the loud noise of a buzzing trimmer. My dog was just as off-put by the constant snapping of the scissors together and didn't sit as still as he does for the trimmer. My biggest problem with these scissors was that they were incredibly dull (on first use) compared to any other grooming scissors I've used. I used them as directed and still had to "chop" multiple times on the same few pieces of fur to get a clean cut. The company did, however, send me a new pair to try out since my first pair was so incredibly dull. The new pair seems to be sharper but I have yet to use it for a full groom to really put it to the test. Overall these scissors take significantly longer than any other grooming tool and are quite expensive for what they are (which is dull). If this was an attachment I could add to my existing scissors I'd be overjoyed, but I won't make my dog stand for hours while I hack away at the same little patch of fur. If you wanted to use these to do your whole dog it would take an incredibly long time. A full groom for my dogs typically takes 30 minutes and includes fur trim everywhere (including face, both sides of ears, in between toes, and shortening the legs, beard, and eyebrows). I took 45 minutes just to trim three legs of my dog with the Scaredy Cut (I did the 4th leg with scissors since he was getting impatient and I was getting frustrated. My opinion: think carefully about why you are getting this product. If you need something that will trim a very fearful dog, get the scaredy cut! If you are the one afraid of the electric trimmers and hurting your dog, it's more likely that practice and treats are all you need to be a great at-home groomer and for your dog to be calm and confident. Groomers usually have an easier time grooming your dog because they are calm and confident. Remember, if you are nervous, your dog will be too! This advice goes for both using the scaredy cut, and training your dog to accept regular grooming.

I do like these scissors and think that they are a great concept. I read about these both on Amazon and at the Scaredy Cut website. I watched several videos on U-Tube as well. I anxiously awaited these arriving. My cat is a 12 pound long hair spayed female that is 7 years old. She is a proficient groomer and rarely will have a matt. She does, however, have serious hairball issues. I wanted these to trim her hair by a few inches and get some off her body. She is very patient and loves to be groomed so I knew she would be ideal for these. Her brother will be another matter but that is another story. My first few cuts today were very unproductive only the section nearest the handles would cut. The rest of the fur was like sawing and took six or seven cuts to produce one swipe. I thought it was just me. I tried with a very thin section of fur with the same result. I tried without any of the comb attachments with the same result. The scissors appeared to be sharp but would only cut about 1/4" towards the hinge of the scissors. My husband inspected them and told me they were not going to cut as the blades were not coming together to actually cut except for the 1/4" nearest the handles. He said it appeared to him that one of the blades was bent. You can see when they are shut that there is a gap between them. He then tried to tighten the tension. After several tries (and a patient cat) we could not get them any better. Sadly, mine must be defective. I would love a pair of these that would cut properly as the ones I saw in the videos but am afraid if I order I might end up with another pair that don't work. My friend has also ordered a pair that will be delivered tomorrow. I am hoping hers work for her dog better than these did for me. UPDATE: The company contacted me within hours of my posting the review. They offered to send me a new pair immediately. I agreed and I received a new pair with one comb in the mail about a week later. I was very impressed with their quick customer service. I raised my review to 4 stars because of the great customer service. The new pair of scissors was better and cut more like 1/2". I have kept the scissors and did not request a refund although one was offered by the company. Hopefully, I can put them to some use. My friend purchased the blue color to use on her Australian shepherd. She said hers worked fabulously and the entire length of the scissors cut proficiently.

Very dull, won’t cut my cats hair at all. It took a minute to figure out how to hold it properly. Great idea, just think it didn’t work for my Maine coon

Scaredy Cut Silent Pet Grooming Kit For Cats & Dogs - Quiet Alternative to Electric Clippers For Sensitive Pets - Right-Handed, Pink I've been clipping my own dogs for more than twenty years, and have been using a combination of scissors and electric clippers to do so. But my retired service dog, a shih tzu, has become very sensitive to and fearful of the sound and feel of the electric clippers. She's deaf, developing tunnel vision and has a severe heart murmur. This combination of factors causes her to pass out and/or have seizures when she's exposed to physical and/or emotional stress. Since she can no longer hear a baseline of sounds to allow her to filter out what's threatening and what's not, the clippers cause her a great deal of stress... and that causes me a great deal of stress! The physical condition for which I have a service dog is exacerbated by stress, so grooming has become a bad time for both of us... and for my present, working service dog, as he is trained to react to my stress. Bad scene, all around! Enter these clippers: I wasn't sure they were anything more than a gimmick, but the problem was dire enough that I was willing to risk it. As it turns out, they don't stress my old girl. I can get into places with them that were awkward and/or impossible with the electric clippers. I no longer have to pull out clippers, comb and scissors: these little scissor/clippers are all of those things combined. As I'm clipping around her feet (I like to give her Teddy Bear feet which require a scissored guide cut around the outside bottom of the paws) I can flip the clippers over and use them as plain scissors without having to let go of her foot and transfer from clipper to scissor. I don't have to hold a comb in one hand and the scissors in the other in the fiddly places where her hair won't stay fluffed out for the scissors cut. She does have hair, rather than fur, and these do a more precise job of cutting than clippers. They're easier and more precise to use around her eyes and in her hygiene areas than electric clippers. The tension on them is easier to adjust than on the electric clippers and they're easier to clean than the electric clippers. Although I don't like to clip dirty fur, I can with these. This is important for those times, like today, when she can't handle the stress of a wet bath, but she still needs some clipping. The electric clippers leave too much behind then. These clippers did an excellent job; and I can, when I need to, sharpen them myself. And last, but by no means least, these are so easy to pull out and use on the fly that I can take a few clips here and there on those spots that require more frequent attention (face, bangs, hygiene areas, paws)... no more, "Oh! Her face needs attention but we don't have time to pull out the clippers and go through all the ordeal and aftermath of a clipping session!" I also have a large cat who can't always get his nether areas completely clean. Clippers and cats, obviously, are not a happy combination. These work well for him, too. In fact, I would recommend these for use with children who have sensory issues as well.

Follow-up since receiving an unsolicited replacement from the seller: Seller sent a 2nd pair that has the serration filed off and they appear to be coated with some thing?? as well as tightened. He promised to refund if 2nd pair doesn't work. It doesn't and I've not heard from seller since. The 2nd pair is not as noisy as the first. The are tighter and it appears as though everything that could be done to make the scissors more quiet, has been done. Unfortunately, they are simply not going to work for my cat. I was sitting next to her on the floor when I opened the second package and tried out the scissors and she simply doesn't like the sound they make when they open & close. I have one of the most mellow cats on the planet. She is extremely trusting and very patient with the grooming process. I still recommend avoiding these scissors for cats. They will not reach the sanitary area with a guard comb and the overall process is too slow with constant metal scraping opening and closing of scissors. If you want to see how your cat will tolerated Scaredy cut, get a fine tooth comb, comb a little of their hair, and use a pair of ordinary household, heavy metal scissors to cut it. I bought this clipper set from Amazon and they are much easier to use on my cat. Very fast, cuts fine cat hair easily and you are finished within seconds. They also cost about $8 LESS than the Scaredy cut scissor. Wahl 9160-210 Pet Clipper Kit Feedback prior to receiving 2nd pair: These scissors are NOISY! While they do not make the vibrating hum of an electric trimmer, they do make a LOT of noise for scissors. I own a lot of scissors, various purpose scissors, and these are hands down the loudest of all. They remind me of old dressmaker shears that made a distinct scratching sound with every open and close of the blades. 3 stars because they do cut fine cat hair. Unfortunately, most people looking to trim a cat needs something to trim the area under their tail for sanitary reasons and these scissors can't do that. They shortest hair guard is too long for that area. Even if the hair guard allowed closer access, the scissors are too long, too bulky, and the awkward angle required because of the need to get the hair guard side against the skin, simply will not work. If that is the reason you are considering buying these, don't do it. The smaller scissors without the guard by Scaredy Cut will access this area but it is too dangerous to get scissors in this area of a cat for a non professional an no proper restraint. I should have returned these when I could.

Needs a bit more working on if to be used on very small dogs, and mine are smaller than adult cats, being about the size of kittens, (one slightly larger than the other). It is difficult to comb the dog coat, and even harder to use these scissors to cut much of the hair. It takes AGES! The old separate comb and scissors work far quicker and do a better job. (Re-edit: 4/27/2013 These were my thoughts at the time, but I see now the only reason this purchase was unsatisfactory was due to the smallness of my dogs' bodies! There was only a small patch of flat skin for the comb attachment to pick up hair as the curve of their bodies prevented a good amount of hair to be picked up.) This item is a good invention and hopefully, the manufacturers will keep going with it until it reaches a more satisfactory level for the smallest of dogs also. EDIT on my review: April 12, 2013 Thank you Mathew for your comment and offer to help with my dissatisfaction. I should have added that my Pomeranian dogs are very tiny, one being 3lbs and the other just 5lbs in weight. Perhaps as they are so small, the scissor/comb invention could not work properly on them. I did use the smallest comb provided, but that was still too big for such tinies. UPDATE; APRIL 27TH 2013 Very happy with the after-sales, especially in this instance of my not having 100% satisfaction with their product. My dogs are too tiny for this gadget to work as well as it probably would on a larger dog. When the comb (attached to the scissors) was placed on either dog it always landed on a bit of the curve of their body. If you can picture this it means only a bit of the comb lay flat against the body so was unable to pick up much hair to cut. Perhaps this company will invent the same instrument for very small bodies as that would really help speed up grooming time! The price seemed a bit high to me, but I'm so glad I finally caved and bought this. I have a larger (18-lb) Yorkie, and she is terrified of any grooming tool that makes a lot of noise, or vibrates against her skin. She loves being combed and brushed, though. It took her almost no time to adjust to this new grooming tool. I'm kind of slow (okay, lazy), so it took me two days. On the first day, I trimmed her upper body and head. I waited until the next day to trim her underside and legs. Oh, for any others that might be slow/lazy like me: I groom her on my bed, and I use an old t-shirt under her to catch the trimmed hair. I cut the t-shirt along the seams, so I have a nice big area to work on. After I'm done grooming, I roll up the t-shirt -- hair clippings and all -- and toss it in the trash. My dog gets to lie down and relax while I groom her, and I don't have a mess on my bed. Now, this grooming tool is great for the back and belly (larger areas), and does a pretty good job on the head and legs, but I did have to stop and use my regular hair-cutting scissors to get the smaller areas around her feet and face. I also kept her favorite comb nearby to double-check my trimming -- and because she just loves to be combed. In the past, I would simply scissor-cut her all over, using the width of my fingers as a guide. I usually ended up with a few cuts to my fingers before I was done. With this grooming kit, I no longer cut my fingers, and the process is MUCH faster and more relaxing, which is good for me and good for my Yorkie. I am so glad I bought this, and I'm a bit surprised that a grooming tool like this hasn't already been mass-marketed. Honestly, it's the first time I've ever seen anything like this. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again.

J'ai eu du mal à l'utiliser sur mes chiens car ils avaient des sous-poils très épais. Si vous tenez les cheveux dans la main et que cela aide mais il faut faire attention de ne pas se couper les doigts. Je pense que ce serait beaucoup plus facile pour les chiens qui ne sont pas doublement traités. C'est quand même un outil utile une fois maîtrisé.

Das Set ist wirklich hochwertig, die Schere sehr scharf und viele sinnvolle Aufsätze dabei. Allerdings ist es in unserem Fall nicht ganz so problemlos nutzbar gewesen. Wir hatten es für Verfilzungen unserer Katze gekauft. Sie ist alt und kann sich nicht mehr gut alleine pflegen. Leider sind die Aufsätze in diesem Fall eher nutzlos, da man in die Filzbereiche nicht hineinkommt und die Schere dann schief ansetzen muss, was seitlich die Haut mit hochzieht (Verletzungsgefahr). An den Stellen ohne Verfilzung geht es schon recht gut, doch gleichmäßig wird es leider nicht ganz. Dennoch sind wir froh es zu haben, um damit immer mal kleinere Stellen herauszuschneiden. Vor allem für Tiere, die Panik vor Schermaschinen haben, ist das Set perfekt. Im Fall von Verfilzungen zählt auch nicht unbedingt die Gleichmäßigkeit des Schnittes, sondern die Hautgesundheit des Tieres.

Purchased the Scaredy Cut Silent Clipper with Tiny Trim for my long haired guinea pig. This is a really brilliant product, I cannot tell you how pleased I am with it. The scissor is sharp and is very quiet and so doesn't frighten her. Being a guinea pig I found using the smaller attachments better on her hair than the larger ones but this product would be useful for any animal that is easily stressed. The Tiny Trim scissor is really good for cutting around the botty area as her fur can get tangled and dirty but if you have a cat or dog they will work on paws or ears. It is one of the best things I have bought for my pet as she was getting over heated with the long hair and it was stressful for me using kitchen scissors. The Scaredy Cut is much safer to use as the attachments act as guards against cutting your pet. They also have rounded ends so you cannot poke and hurt your pet. I am so pleased that I bought these instead of electric clippers.
